Mini Surfer 800 - Build and maiden

Nippy little 800mm EPP pusher kit. 340g flying weight with 3s 1300mAH. I used 6g servos in the wing and 9g for elevator. No rudder. 1804 2200kV motor with 5x5x3 prop. Control horns need to be glued in to the foam. I decided to cut a battery hatch rather than remove the wing for access.

Thank you ,Andrew! I was considering getting one of these as an intermediate model for the fleet somewhere between the AXN and a little brushed 959. You've sold me on getting one seeing how well it went together etc. I hope you do a little outing to the slopes with it, very intrested to see how you get on.

looks a nice little pusher, EPP should be pretty tough, interesting the nylon motor mount is the same one that came with my freewing 1026, though i did not use it instead i made one up

Mine arrived the box looked like it had gone through a war zone. The carbon spar was even broke during shipping! Not a scratch however on the fuselage or wing. Tough flexible foam on this one. Plan to build it as a very light fpv plane.

Wow, new level of shipping abuse! I have just converted mine to sub 250g FPV by making it a tractor prop setup. Might want to wait for the video before assembling yours.

Nice video as usual but you know, I don't like the way it flies. It seems too fast and jerky, and doesn't compliment your great flying skills. As you were saying, slope flying maybe the real place for it. Would love to see you fly it on your slope over the ocean if you get a chance, even adding some weight if it was very windy. Looks very nice, almost makes me want to try out something other than scratch building. I think at this size it could be lighter. A smaller motor and battery could be enough. Maybe smaller servos too. Nice video as always and I am expecting a follow up with mods :)

Kinda disappointing to see how much up elevator is needed to keep it going. Great video. I almost bought one of these a few weeks ago. I think the Mini Skywalker would be a better choice.

You should have watched the whole vid, he replaced the elevator servo, it was faulty, I'd think twice about the mini skywalker I folded the wings on mine when I had to put too much weight in the nose of it to get CG, only good for gliders

@@reefer2917 I had a mini Skywalker. It flew like a champ. Full fpv gear and a mobius out on the wing. The only flaw I seen was within the T tail. It would flex during acrobatics.

just cant stop this plane pulling to the right when i add power , tried different motor angles, checked all the trims ,made sure the plane looks squares etc . spent at day going round in circles (sorry for the pun) i'm using a 12 amp esc 1806 2200kv 4045 prop 3 cell 900 mah auw 296 grams

Little things make a big difference. Must be slight misalignment, twisted wings or motor thrust angle

Andrew UHU POR is a contact glue so needs to be tack dry but can you put it together wet?

Both methods are listed in the UHU Por manual, contact dry or clamped wet.

Is it really as fast as it seems, or is it only it's small Size ❓What was wrong with CG, was the Location given, or did You move it forward for the First Flight, exzellent Pilot, great Modell, fantastic Entertainment, love Your Work and Your Chanel. This planen looks a little bit like the mini Skywalker without the T tail. I got two of those luckily for me they have a reinforcement in the tail boom. I think my style is In the middle of yours and the ragged nuts. So reinforcement is definitely required. :)

Andrew I want to order a mini surfer but I have to run a 2204-2300kv motor cuz that's all I have, do you know if BG has a pusher prop that will work for this plane with that motor, all I seem to find are quad props. thanks for another great review......

Quad prop is perfect. Something about 5 x 3 with the right size shaft hole. Pusher or tractor makes no difference

wow iI have 5x3 - 2 bladed props I just figured they wouldn't make enough thrust for a plane that big.... thanks

Pusher props are for engines, nitro or fuel, too hard to change direction on them, you can use pusher tractor any kind of prop on an electric motor, just make sure the writing on the prop faces the way the plane is flying :-)

I think it said "more than four channel radio", because it has two aileron servos. The second aileron servo always goes on channel 5 or 6 on models I have built. Mine was a plug and fly and it came with a Y harness, so it could be used with a 4 channel radio.
