I took my month old mini braids (installed on 8-24-24) down today after using ONLY pure unrefined shea butter, and I had such a small amount of shed hair!!! I installed a twist (braided roots, after gently removing the shed hair) over each braid I removed. I primarily wear a satin cap and another cap before I put on my head wrap. I will do the same method and come back at the end of October with my results of how my twists faired!!! I do a heavy anointing once a week because my hair is used to staying soft! I did not wash and do not plan to as my hair does not itch! I will wash some time after the New Year! My hair loves to stay covered and comfy!!!
I just love the way you talk …. Mini braids are the best protective style ever. Twists are the worst for my hair, my hair tangles a lot with twists. Love the content ❤
Braids to me are just sturdier especially as someone with fine hair. I know that a lot of ladies love twists but in terms of a long-term style that stays neater longer on my afro-textured type 4c low density fine strands...mini braids always!AND mini braids holds on to moisture a lot longer. Any time i install twists, it takes no time for me to undo them lol. I'm a mini braid girl for life haha. (I also love that you differentiated between brittleness and dryness).
I also have same hair type, low density, very fine strand hair, and on top of that its high porosity. I struggle with breakage, tangling, single strand knots. I was doing braids and my hair would break alot, so i thought maybe medium twists would help. But i still get breakage when i detangle my hair. Iv just started my mini braids journey this week. Hopefully to see some good results
@@JayNewjourny Yes, mini braids definitely need a good strategy. I don't braid all the way to the bottom. Some people can do that but I almost always get breakage doing that. So I leave 3 inches to just twist OR coil. Also, if you're getting breakage when detangling your hair, it's probably means your trying to detangle too much at a time. Use small sections, be sure to lubricate the section, and gently start from roots to ends (VERY GENTLY). You can do some finger detangling first, and then uses a detangling comb or brush second. Because breakage just means too much force is being applied that your hair cannot handle. So with having fine strands, a gentle touch is the key ingredient in detangling (because you can have breakage with finger detangling too). The best to you sis :D
@@CoilyCode Thank you for the tips. I will definitely try doing all that. Especially not braiding till all way to the bottom, its more fine there and tangles alot. I needed this advice. Bless you gal. Question, 1)what do you use to lubricate your braids when undoing them? 2) how often do you wash your hair?
You can't wear your hair in braids if you have thinning hair. Or if you have fine hair with not much density. People use twists because it looks fuller and is easier to take down and put in 2 strand twists. You are only looking at it with your eyes and you do not think about those people with thin or thining hair. Braids do not look full and looks gappy and bald. Braids look nice on medium to thick hair types. Your braids look real good so it works for you. Braids make me look bald because my hair is fine and I'm a mature woman.
Exactly. I have fine, 4A/4B, medium density hair my hair is almost midback from mini twists. My hair LOVES it and it gives my hair fullness. Maybe I'm different, but the frizz doesn't bother me.
You guys would never believe how fine my hair was even if I try and tell y'all. I too didn't like how thin my braids look and feel and sometimes I still feel like that but then I stick it out and remember it's not about how my braids look, for me it's not about the style but the growth of my hair so I continue and not give up on braids. Because of that decision every time I remove my braids I get surprised at how thick my hair has gotten. If I were to do twists because it's a beautiful style, when I remove the twists I would lose a lot of hair instead of gaining volume due to all that detangling matted hair. Like I said in the video, continue doing your twists if you want to as for some of us we'll persist in braids even though the journey is not easy because the rewards are just too real to deny.
I believe if depends on the hair texture. My hair doesn’t get matter nor tangled from twists. I’ve done both mini braids and mini twists and honestly do prefer the braids for longevity - I can rock braids 2-4 weeks longer. The length retention is about the same for both - never noticed one is better than the other.
My twist are fuzzy because I’m trying to regrow my hair from damage and my hair has different lengths and textures. If I braid it, it’s more defined and the strands are more confined in the braid. Twists are fine if your hair is more uniform in length and texture.
Honestly, I think mini twists are for hair other than 4c hair. In fact, mini twists are a nightmare for 4c hair because they matt fast. The last I installed mini twists I lost alot of hair because of matting. Ke shap ka tsona, never again!
