The Millerbeck L.R is another private railway,they do have open days mostly on bank holidays.
Wow! this is some railway! It twists and turns around the grounds of the house,a lot bigger layout than many Model Engineering Societies,but I didn't think it was as friendly as a M.E.S,take your money,get you on,get you off,bye! Just no atmosphere.Perhaps because it was the end of the day they were tired and hot! But we still enjoyed the ride.

Good long ride; brilliant trackage, capable locomotives and crew. Lovely location among the trees. …Not forgetting ‘traditional shaped’ loco crew 😉. Nothing not to like 👍👍👍

Hi 'Wooltman'! We have only just found this video on youtube of our railway and home. We are pleased that you thought our railway was nice, but sorry that you felt it has no atmosphere. You are certainly the first to say this to us with most feeling we are extremely friendly and have visitors that come multiple times throughout the year. (Of course this year will be very different to us!). As you say, we are not an MES and never plan to be. Millerbeck is our private home, everyone a volunteer and we certainly don't run with the normal club mentality. More like a family :). Perhaps it was the end of the day but I'm sure if you had introduced yourself there would be many of our enthusiasts who would have talked to you or showed you round our engines etc. In terms of 'take your money' - please can I clarify to your followers that we only charge £3 for adults and £2 for children for a ride, purely to cover the costs of running and maintaining the railway. We do hope that you visit us again in the future, and this time do make yourself known. As a side note, we do always try to seek permission of those we are filming if we publish to social media, or blur faces - especially children's. If you are with us again, please do let us know :). Thanks!

Many thanks for your reply...When we visited it was getting a little late in the day so it could have been the cause.I appreciate hard working guys were looking forward to getting off home...We have visited many railways around the UK,we enjoy the friendly banter between driver/ticket/station staff towards the paying passengers,but sadly we didn't have any on our trip not even a smile...We had visited two other miniature railways that day,having a great visit at them all.If we ever come North again we will visit you again and make ourselves known.....Keep safe.....Regards Chris

A beautiful location Chris, but a real shame that you and Rosie didn't feel welcome there...Unfortunately this does happen occasionally but it's their loss!....Best wishes....Bob

I think they were tired after a long hot day,it doesn't take a lot to smile and welcome you on the trains,bit of a laugh and a joke.They have a lot to learn if they want people to come back.......Regards Chris

Can anyone give me details of where the Millerbeck railway is please? I am in west london.

Hi Paul.The Millerbeck is a private railway,but they do have open weekends..It's near Newby Bridge in Cumbria..If you check out the website you can find out all the details.

The Fee IS definitively not to high. I asume nobody there earns his living with it. Sometimes Non Professionals have no clue how they appear to Clients, so they might come over as cold eventhough they actually are just not natural Salespeople.

As you can see from all the miniature railways that we visit.That is a lot.So we know what the other railways charge..It is a fantastic railway and well worth a visit..As we said in the film comments,the day was hot,plus it was the end of the day,so the guys must have been working hard and were ready for home.

@@wooltman I did not want to implie that you thought the Fee IS to high, I just wanted to give a Reason for my Assumptions that the People working there are no Professionals. Very often those People do not think that their Actions could be taken as unfriendly. I have Seen this quite often in Non Profit Organisations, their Volunteers often are more into the Cause then into Representation. And if tired they become harsh without realising it.

Sometimes this can be so...When we run our loco's at the club or any other railway that we visit...I enjoy talking to the passengers,having the banter with the children,telling them to look after Mum or Dad ect. It makes for an enjoyable day.It doesn't cost nothing to be friendly....Regards Chris
