i WAS HOPTING TO GET A SUGGESTION AS TO SAVING PAPER BAGS.....WHEN SENDING HOME GUESTS WITH LEFTOVERS AND SENDING SOMETHING HOME WITH A FAMILY MEMBER....VERY DISAPPOINTED THERE WERE NO SUGGESTIONS!
I'm pleased to say I got rid of my paper bag collection (the none gift bag type) a long time ago. I used to think they were fancy but never actually used them so they went the journey.
What a great point! I believe I have maybe 3 paper bags that I can't seem to let go of. Damn you Trader Joe's! Lol I've been doing a deep purge of my home this week and have come across some odd feelings of guilt. Guilt over the trash that's accumulating. For the things that cannot be donated or recycled, it's like my conscience says it's better to have them in my house than the landfill. Weird!
Heheheh oh my gosh! We are reorganizing our basement and I shamefully have a whole cardboard box full of paper bags 😬. Thanks for this. I need to recycle them!
Oh my goodness!! I have so many paper bags that I keep organized in one spot and I have not plans to get rid of them. The sad part is that every paper bag I have came from the ABC store only 🤭 it took me about 2 1/2 years to collect this many. However, I am a very organized person but I use these bags for so many different things
I tend to keep a few (5 or so) on-hand for gifts, bringing things to people's houses, errands, etc. We just have to keep tabs on when we end up with 10x as many as we really need!
It's an ongoing battle! I just filmed a video yesterday about how I'm letting go of a dozen cloth pouches. Bags, pouches, little boxes, etc. are my weakness! Thank you so much for your reply.
OK, so, I have TWO bags of paper bags because I keep them for recycling but my husband refuses to use them for recycling so they pile up because he usually takes out the recycling -- how dumb is that!! I am 4'9" so it's easier for me to take out the recycling in paper bags -- we recycle everything and subscribe to the Post hard copy so we have newspapers to recycle. HE can carry out the box of newspapers and the xerox paper box of other papers with no problem; I find it easier if I have a paper bag with handles. So the supply dwindles when he is away, but builds up again when he is home. :) It's kind of hilarious anyway. We keep them next to our ... ta da ... recycling!! :) Every now and then I do recycle the smaller bags he generously saves for me, or that I've put in there thinking I'll use them but haven't. Of course when my son was in high school and his class was in the area cleaning up a creek and everyone stopped by for a cold drink even his science teacher was impressed with how much we were able to recycle and that we actually drove to a recycling center for somethings back in the day....
The few I keep, I use for recycling. You probably know that you get to a point where you think "this one is too pretty to use for recycling." Any bag sitting in my foyer closet is fair game. Thanks for sharing!
Here's my rationalization: The nicer paper bags store flat. I do reuse them, especially for bringing stuff to & fro the office. I do use them when bringing food/gifts to parties/ get togethers. I limit myself to less than 10. They store out of site where they do not take up otherwise useful space, behind a wall section.
Ahhh, good question. I'll certainly think of ways to make some videos on this. Thanks to Evernote (and being able to forward emails to Evernote) my email is pretty minimal. Long story short, use Evernote!
When I started my minimalism journey, I found to have similar amount of bags that you have. I just collected it solely for the aesthetics, and also because it was "branded" by some expensive clothing company or a brand that I supported, and thought I would too, also repurpose it as a gift bag for any upcoming special occasions that required a decent looking bag, without having to purchase a gift bag. After months of collecting, not once did I ever touched, or used any of the bags. So it was easy to just let it go, knowing that it did not add any function to my life anymore. Thanks for this great video! :)
Thank you for sharing, really! This is exactly what I want to hear and exactly why I make these videos. Sometimes we just have to challenge ourselves to answer simple questions, such as "Why do I keep all these bags" a little more deeply. You clearly knew why you were keeping them, but on 2nd thought, realized that that wasn't a good enough reason. Way to go!
I have a bunch of sephora bags. I keep them because they're really nice. I would love to be able to recycle them. It's pretty wasteful to just throw them in the garbage.
Someone here just mentioned that they bring their old bags to an antique shop where they use them for customers. Maybe try that at a store near you? If tossing, be sure to put out with paper recycling.
I totally have a paper bag collection! I always think I will use them for...something! Better to keep them around then just waste them, right? Well, maybe not. Ironically, I just organized my paper bag collection but have only ever used one or two of the bags this entire year. Time to let go! Along with my plastic bag collecion...why does everyone always give me bags? I use reusable bags, so where are all of these bags coming from!
Ha ha. I know the feeling. I keep 3 reusable bags in my car, and still tend to accumulate bags. I've taken to bringing my reusable bags with me into ALL stores. Just brought one into Target the other day. We tend to only associate reusable bags with the grocery store, but we should be carrying them everywhere!
Really??? Glad to know it's perhaps not the epidemic I've made it out to be. I'm also not walking into the country's most organized homes every day... Not sure I've ever seen a perfume collection in bottles. I guaranteed I will in the next few weeks though now that it's on my mind.
Hilarious. Not mine, because I was on a roll and walked that baby out to the recycling bin. I guarantee that one will sell though - the things people will do for a good paper bag!
I actually agree and think a lot of my videos run long too, but I keep hearing from my clients that they like and need all that I share! So, I continue to ramble...
It's an old video. I've been around a while. RU-vidrs are much more concise these days. When I start up my channel again, I'll take this advice to heart because I think you have a point.
