I went minimalist in my kitchen several years ago now (with your influence Sarah) and "ease of use" became very important. I cook and am better at cooking with my few supplies than I ever was with a full kitchen. Though I have 4 small drawers where I would prefer one or two wider drawers. After isolation Im getting that seen to. 😁

I actually decluttered some kitchen things today Sarah. So it is funny that this video came along. Most people have too many things in their kitchen. Or life in general. In Europe we live in smaller places. But surely have better pensions and bank balances. Well that is how it is in Switzerland. Interesting video. Thanks.

@@AbundantlyMinimal It surely was. I am newly pensioned, living in a nice Swiss studio apartment. So I cannot really collect a lot of stuff, I do not love or use. Plus our great transport system is a dream. No need to have and run a car. Life in Switzerland is really good and easy compared to many countries. All the best.

I too killed a few rounds of succulents, but now I can’t stop them from growing! I use those same cute little pots you have and they’ve already outgrown them. I keep mine by the kitchen window where they are BLASTED with bright light. I live in a desert climate and I think that’s where they thrive. They need DIRECT bright sunlight. I also use fertilizer for succulents which REALLY helped so don’t give up! Thanks for another great video 👍

I loved this! I thought it was an older one at first since I was watching You Tube on my TV and didn't see the date. Your honesty and transparency is so refreshing. It was encouraging to see you have storage containers at eye level. I've moved a bit of them recently and really love it. The plastic ones below are such a pain to find and get to. I love the idea of cutting sponges in thirds as I hate when they get yucky. My sister taught me a cool trick to put cooking utensils like spatulas, spoons, ladle, etc. I've been putting them in backward so the handles are in the back and I can see the utensil. It saves me a great deal of time.

Great walkthrough. Your kitchen looks clear, organized, and intentional. You can tell each item & it’s location was thought through. Very practical. It looks nice too. I find open space helps makes things look bright & clean. Thank you for showing your plants. I’ve struggled with houseplants too. It’s nice to see real humans & life as it is, not an edited version that hides flaws. It’s discouraging to see the mirage of ‘perfect’ some try to portray. It makes me feel like their goals are unattainable, or that I’m not good enough to do it as well as they do. We’re all human, with strengths & weaknesses. Thank you. Have a great weekend. Stay safe & healthy. Blessed be.

Thanks Sarah. Looks like you're settling in with a place for everything. I understand about top shelves, both as a minimalist & practically, as I'm 5 foot in height 🙌😂 Under the sink, I always consider, if there was a drip or leak what would get damaged. So I keep it simple under there. Convenience and ease of use as a priority. Plants, I don't have any for the same reason! Looking forward to next time.

I think some succulents are hard to care for in Illinois's climate. My jade plant is doing well and growing fast, but my echeverria is all stretched out. You might want to so some research on easy plants that you like. If you tend to overwater, peace lilies love water. I have to water mine like twice a week and it looks gorgeous.

Some people think that minimalism means living in a really smal place. The funny thing is that my old house was as tiny as a tiny house but I had way more clutter 😆. Our new home is huge. Sometimes I even think to huge when it comes to cleaning but feels so much more empty. Maybe it’s me but I love empty shelves🤔

@@AbundantlyMinimal I don't think there's anything wrong with asking people to subscribe or give a thumbs up if they enjoyed the video. Most of the RU-vid channels I watch do this. It gives the consumers a voice in showing what we like and want to see more of, and gives the creator feedback and incentive to create more great content.

@AbundantlyMinimal

Thanks! There were not any intended messages behind it... I thought the whole video felt very conversational. I guess if I had to hyper-analyze why I mentioned it, it is because it was our most recent purchase for the kitchen, I'm proud of my sister for her new job there, and people frequently ask me where I get certain items, just like how I mentioned the Green Earth pan as well.

My Kitchen is 8' x 2'... but I still feel it could be less 'cluttered'... more organised somehow... my smaller kitchen area does not make me more minimal, in fact it's near the complete opposite...how to take a tiny place and make it really cluttered lol

I totally get that, Paul! Our past apartment had a tiny kitchen, and because of it, our items didn't fit as well in the space, so there was more out on the counters and some gadgets were stored in a nearby closet.

Thank you, Lucy! We have up to 7 people over at one time and we have always made it work with what we have. Granted, I'm not one who tries to be put together, and these guests know that haha! In these situations, we usually use all of the plates, and glasses we have plenty because we can also use our glass jars (which the guests do seem to enjoy!) We do run the dishwasher before and after gatherings however. I hope this helps!

I have a gross question. I live in an apartment, and one of the realities of living in a communal space is roaches. They do come and spray, but when I see them near my cats' food, I want to squash them. I now use face tissues to squash them on the wall or whatever and throw that away, but that's using a disposable product. Would you suggest I use my kitchen towels for this service and just toss them directly into the washing machine? I don't think the drain holes in the tumber of the machine are big enough to flush a bug... Ok, this is a rare case, but any thoughts from your readers would be GREAT. I don't want buggy towels lying around, but I hate to buy paper towels JUST for this duty.
@AbundantlyMinimal
@AbundantlyMinimal 4 года назад
Great question, Erin! Honestly, that would be a situation where I would probably use disposables, especially since roaches can carry bacteria.
