After 3 years of pain, a MRI revealed a compression fracture. Waiting for referral to spine doc! This is hopeful!😊

My prayers are with any of us that undergo this type of surgery. I would want the best experienced doctor and would not have it done at a teaching hospital by students. I will say that I may be biased on this as my sister had it done on her at Kaiser Permanente on Sunset prior to 2014 and it did not work. She also had another break during the surgery. I know that was a long time ago and hopefully they have new techniques now. I guess myself as well as others really need to weight the pros and cons on any surgery and possibly speak to a patient who has had a good outcome. God Bless you all!

This was excellent and so reassuring as I've just been diagnosed with acute compression fracture of thoracic vertebrae after severe pain episodes. I'm feeling positive about treatment now. Thank you for preparing such thorough information for us lay persons!

How do you know if the fracture(s) are from osteoporosis or multiple myeloma? Can the difference be seen in an MRI/CT or PET scan?

Thank you for this easy to understand video. I have a question, please answer. A patient, with RA for 30 years, has been taking low dose prednisone for 20 years. Bone scan has shown no loss of bone density. However, there has been loss of cartilage around joints, from RA, including toes, feet, ankles, knees, shoulders, neck, wrist, hands, fingers. Patient recently had a T8 Vertebra Compression Fracture with pain and reduced control of urination urgency and frequency. For the patient, as described above, do you see any problems with her continuing use of low dose prednisone (10 or 20mg) daily? Have RA patients had any symptoms/ problems from the surgery, that non RA patients do not? Thank you.

Thank you for this info! I have 6 compression fractures T-7 thru T-12. I’ve tried decompression treatments, a brace & PTX but still have severe pain so after seeing your video I’m considering having this done. My Dr @ Duke has referred me to an Endocrinologist

Also try some inversion - gravity boots, inversion chair, or hanging from a pullup bar. I also found losing weight works because it means less downward pressure on the spine when sitting.

Liquid cement could flow to other areas like lungs or patient can get paralysed

I have had a T6 compressed wedged fracture that started as a 20-30% but now it is 60% that I have had pain from for 11 months. I just found out I also have a T5 compressed fracture as well. I finally got in with a good doctor and he wants to do a Kyphoplasty and vertebral body biopsy. I'm 77 yrs old and he wants to do the procedure in a hospital. In your presentation you stated that a Vertebroplasty does not change the shape of the bone. I now have a hunched back due to the location of the fractures. I assume from your presentation my hunched back will be corrected with the Kyphoplasty. Would that be correct?

I have a fracture at T-8. Why is it necessary to use a hammer to enter the vertebrae?

Weight loss takes pressure off the vertebrae. Try inversion therapy too.
