Hey to anyone watching this! This is Timette :) I thought I’d return to say that I got three A’s and I’m studying neuroscience at Westminster! I leave in just over a week. Thank you guys for answering this email, it really did help me a lot!
Thought I’d give an update to my comment on my new account! I’m actually a Tim now (crazy how things work out) and I’m in my final year of university!! It still blows my mind that my email got answered and maybe if it hadn’t, I wouldn’t be living this life right now…
Just watched Simon mention manny going to hull too, also mad. Also unsurprising he dropped out after a very short time as well. Hull Uni is a pile of shite. People running the uni are cutting out departments like languages in favour of stem subjects, even though stem subjects at hull have been getting less people year after year. I do chemistry and while the facilities are great, the teaching is fucking dog shit. Lecturers don’t know what they’re doing, unreliable, lazy and incompetent. People on other courses all have complaints of their own but almost all are about the standard of teaching, it’s tragic. As for actual uni life at hull IMO it’s not for everyone. For a southerner moving to Hull it’s like a different world. I’ve seen loads of people moving from london to hull uni and hating it, cause it’s just so different. Nightlife is average, locals are all homeless druggies. Wish I went to a different uni but it’s whatever. The kind of person both Manny and Simon are...yeah I can imagine even the change in accents had them feeling unwelcome. If you don’t fit in right away at Hull uni it’s hard to make friends and enjoy your time.
@@Pigisdeado I'm from London and went to Hull but didn't find it a problem as a southerner. Out of all of the people I met at uni about half were southerners, lots of which were from london and there wasn't a divide at all there was just banter about north and south. I think how you get on at uni depends alot about the friends you make in the first few months and if you struggle to make friends then its gonna set a bad precedent. I thought the nightlife was good obviously its not as good as somewhere like Leeds or Manchester but it still has several good clubs or at least it did when I was there. When I went Hull was around average in the uni rankings but I looked this year and it seems to have dropped considerably like 20 or 30 places lower so I guess you're right the uni isn't as good anymore.
Those in sixthform, do not stress too much. I wanted to do engineering from Year 11. I chose to go to sixthform as most of my mates went there, i didn't really do well. Failed two, and passed one in AS Level. I was devastated and really wanted to go second years, but I could not. I thought the whole world was over because I wanted to go University and study, but it was not. There are numerous different ways I could go. I sat down and talked with the head of sixthform, he explained I can go to college and still get in. He was right. I studied BTEC Level 3 Engineering, which basically is equivalent to A Level and I did well there. The course was set for two years, but after the first, I decided to leave and do Foundation Engineering in a uni. I don't know why people look down on foundation years btw, it was very useful. It helped me get to grasps of the basics I needed to know for Uni. I literally was able to ace it. I applied to numerous Uni's and was able to get offers from top Uni's like Uni of Birmingham, Uni of Manchester, Nottingham, etc. I'm now in the first term of my course and it's quite incredible where I am compared to where I was a few years ago. Also to those thinking I wasted a lot of years, no i did not. I was only one year behind, but even then, I joined University at the same time as 3 of my mates.
To be fair this myth of being behind is bollocks there's no race in finshing uni, it's really what u end up doing in the end that matters, if it's what u wanted thts the main thing , it's not about when u get there, it's about what u end up with
TridenT don’t worry mate keep up the good , I was exactly in the same position as you I did BTEC engineering and I went to uni to study electronic engineering , I’m 22 and I’m currently doing my masters at University of Birmingham. I also had an offer to do my masters at Imperial College London ,however unfortunately I didn’t have the money to go there .thus my point is don’t let anyone try to condescend you or tell you , you can’t do a particular thing. Keep up the good work and watch how you get the best job in your field just believe in yourself.
Hamzah Desai well, not quite. AS Levels still exist, but they are separate from A2- so if you are taking A2 Maths, for example, you won’t get an AS-Level, but you can still take AS Maths if you only want to do 1 year. It’s one or the other.
Chemistry is so hard! Was my least favourite class in school. I'm studying nursing at Uni. This wasn't helpful lmao but you were right at the end and I agreed a lot. Loving the podcast guys.
sarah xx chemistry is the hardest when you don't do a lot of exam questions but it becomes one of the easiest when you do every single past paper from OCR to AQA. Same as maths or physics a level. I'd say the hardest thing about a level is the time versus the ridiculous amount of topics. So it's a marathon race, GCSEs were a sprint.
i wasn't completely sure what i wanted to do after school but i thought about furniture or interior design, but i took a gap year and came to the conclusion that fashion marketing was something i would be down to do. now i work for successful instagram pages and make bank :)
It depends what you want to do in life! For certain fields, you need qualifications such as finance, medicine, engineering. I would say go uni and whilst there gain as much real-world experience as possible,
You get more real world experience outside of university to be honest. While there your time is consumed so much between studying, work (most people I know try to work while there) and maintaining a social life. I would only recommend university for people who are trying to get into fields which require a degree.
Guys, They changed how A levels worked, My sixth form and colleges i know of Scrapped AS Levels and you take 2years of A levels and AS exams in the end of first were replaced with A level practice exams
I've lived all my life in Hull and I've heard that Hull Uni is waaay better than it used to be in general but also some courses are great but others are terrible. Guess Simon got unlucky.
Gareth Unwin I had a open day there just the other day and it looks fairly nice. I’ve not been to many unis but it is a place where I could see myself studying. I know that they have some of the best sports facilities and I believe they’ve had a lil but of a revamp. But Hull can be a rough area. That’s the unappealing part I guess.😂
In two years I'm going to be studying abroad (Dutch student) for one semester and I'd really like to go to a university in the UK. To my knowledge I can choose between Liverpool, Southampton, Newcastle, Nottingham and a couple more cities where my uni's got a UK uni that they are linked with. Could anyone give me advice on which one would be preferable for a business student? Or maybe name a different uni that's got good courses in their business faculty which I could maybe apply for as well?
iiRob-M Colchester you mean. I guess they are ok but not spectacular I’m business. You got business schools in Loughborough, Durham, Manchester , Warwick, London. Those would be my go to
I got A in Chemistry, A in Biology (2 marks off A* 😭) and B's in Maths, English, Applied Science and I got a double distinction star in my Business Diploma and went to the 4th ranked university in the UK (Cambridge rank 1, Oxford rank 2, Imperial rank 3. I didn't even attempt to apply to any of those lol so who knows if I could've gone to Imperial) and graduated with honours so~ I think I can give advice for anyone going to uni. My advice is: STUDY VERY EARLY AS SOON AS YOU START STUDYING YOUR COLLEGE COURSE, 2 HOURS MINIMUM EVERY DAY! AND DO NOT GIVE UP!! LEARN THE MATERIAL LIKE ITS THE BACK OF YOUR HAND SO YOU CAN ANSWER ANY QUESTION AT THE SNAP OF YOUR FINGERS AND THEN PRACTICE PRACTICE PAST PAPERS! That's it! Choosing Courses and Universities: Do what you love! Try to find a balance between what you love and what will lead you down a good career path. Also, actually go to the university on open days look at the university league tables too for your course I only got B's in my GCSE's and an A in one GCSE. And when I did my Maths A-level I was getting over 90% throughout the year and A's all around but I have a poor short term memory (everything else is above 90 above average cognition except my working memory which was 35). So it's not impossible guys if I can do it anyone can do it. Ultimately, I'm not super clever I was just extremely focused and determined to get those results and I did everything I could to make sure I could do it! Stay strong, don't give up never give up! Keep yourself fired up no matter what and BEAT THOSE EXAMS BECAUSE YOU DESERVE TO AND YOU'LL SUCCEED IF YOU PUT ALL THE WORK IN ITS WORTH IT SO DONT SHRUG IT OFF! 👍🏻 No better feeling than getting your degree by the Chancellor, a large audience of parents, students and professors applauding you and your parents looking at you smiling so very proud of you of your fantastic accomplishment: greatest feeling ever and everybody deserves to know what that feels like! So don't worry about a thing: anyone can go to Cambridge if they work hard enough!
I know this is going back a few podcasts but on RU-vid rappers how did you not mention Mac Lethal. He is the best rapper because he can rap many different styles
@@casparandechs4758 add ucl to the list as well. Those 5 (oxbridge, lse, ucl, warwick) are basically the best and the only “targets” in the UK. Imperial technically is a target as well, but you can’t do econ there
I almost did Microbiology at Nottingham Trent University but then I was told I was taking the wrong degree for the career I wanted. Nottingham Trent didn't have the degree I needed so I took a year off. Worked, then I had to go to the US for university because the UK doesn't have the degree I need. Now I have to pay more than double, how fun. Don't go to the US, avoid the US at all costs!
@@tahmid4785 Majority of colleges give you the opportunity to do 4... It's quite common. Yours not giving you the opportunity to do 4 whilst many others do doesn't mean they have to get out more lol.
@@lucasmcintyresixth3152 Because the Quadeca track wasn't deep. The one with Deji stems from actual personal family issues. So to react to it is just prolonging their private problem being relevant online and profiting off it (which will make more people think that they've lied, again). They said before why they were not reacting to it, people need to stop saying it lol.
Ya boy got big news fam, so I have known about this for about a week or so now. I will be making a video today about it, so stay tuned. (Should be released tomorrow.) So, currently around 1800 subs, I kind of kept this quiet as I didn't think we would ever hit 5k before 2019 but might as well try it right and give you all an opportunity. So, 2 of my sponsors are teaming together for a massive giveaway that if I hit 5k subs before 2019 I can announce and be apart of the giveaway. This giveaway will have a prize total of over $5,000, featuring prizes from both sponsors. (Can't announce full details yet until I reach 5k subs) I can say it isn't a PC though lol. However the prizes are amazing, so keeping you all informed, can we hit 5k???
guys the disstracks are Fake cause The sidemen who was against deji and ksi was just a act and its stupid that Ksi would be against deji or even Hes parents
If you're interested about the downsides of uni, watch my latest video. I made a 1 hour video about Goldsmiths uni detailing everything that went wrong (spoiler alert, it was almost fatal).
James Macariola think of it as your starting tool before going university to study maths as an example. Let's say you're doing A-level maths, you'll be dealing with calculus like volumes of revolution to integration by parts to calculus in trigonometry, double angle formula, numerical methods, binomial expansion (i cba to list the other like 20 more topics lol) but it is difficult.
