When you have time can you please make a video on “ how to use an oscciloscope for laptop and gpu repair”? Wich are the main function, how to interpret and what to expect when you use one! Thank you in advance! ❤❤❤

That would be a great video, I recently got a 4 Chanel rigol one and it's really not easy to use.

Richard, I think the goofiness with the frequency is a pretty standard effect of the limited sample rate. It's called "aliasing", where for example if you sample say a 50 Hz signal with only 10 samples every second, it's clearly not going to able to represent something changing 50 times per second. If you sample 10 times per second and interpolate between the samples with a straight line you can get all kinds of weird results (or frequency "aliases"), or even DC if you time it right. A guy named Nyquist showed that you need to sample AT LEAST two times every period to reproduce a signal, and in practice you want even more than that.

Thanks! This was a very informative video. I would like you to do a video explaining how to use an oscilloscope. Just the way to use it. How it works and how it can help in working out issues. An important bit would be to show how to use the tool. You've done 2hr videos in the past. An oscilloscope is a tool that needs learned advice to use. Thanks again for the videos.

Several viewers have asked me to this so I will have a good think about how to explain that, due to popular demand LOL 🙂 And thank you very much for your support, it is greatly appreciated

Great review AND an excellent demonstration of using the math function (which most analog and digital scopes have). For newbies (and old timers too) be sure to check the scope specs for maximum input voltage to ground as well as maximum input voltage before using this method with grounded bench scopes. The "low frequency" you were seeing is caused by aliasing and is common in digitizing oscilloscopes - it is a function of frequency input and sample rate. Regards, David

Nice....But for only $50 more you can get a Hantek DSO2C10 Digital Storage Oscilloscope 100MHz Bandwidth 2CH Dual Channel 1GSa/s 8M Memory Depth.

I will buy one of these once they start using USB C

Things like this that are tad expensive, it comes down to whether you believe that has improved the quality & reliability or not. A cheap unit might work as well on day 1, but the battery may fail prematurely, or it may overheat in hot weather. If these guys have made a really good quality unit, then it's probably well worth the price.

Heya a oscillocope is something that would like to buy for my hobby repair room so this is something to think about

WHoa!!! It can read the 50 MHz signal!! I already have 2 the original 72msps. with 4MB memory and the next version with 8mb memory and a different MCU. There are some great accesories you can get for these. first a rubber boot, various colors protect and help isolate ground to the probe tips only. 2nd, a little ring magnet hook, so you can attach to a metal surface, or use the ring and velcro. use alligator clips for the logic channels, do not go BNV. get same type connector that device uses. (you can get a BNC converter with a long cable- for automotive work) ALso check out Seeed studio. IF this unit will work with customized firmware. The best for the older models was "Wildcat" firmware. adds more fdatures, functions, and better califration allowing more accurate signal capture at higher frequencies! These are actually very versatile being open source!

I would be careful with that generator. I believe it may be the one with an internal PSU that is badly isolated and can present low current full mains on the bnc terminals. Worth checking to see if safe for sensitive circuits.

you have the same signal generator as i do. mine gives a decent square wave according to my not so cheap osscilloscope.

It seems to me that your 10 MHz signal was modulated perhaps with 240 Hz? Some of these cheap pocket scopes process the data from the display and perhaps it was seeing the modulation and decided to report its frequency? After all when you reduce the timebase it can't resolve the higher frequency in that case...

The problem you saw with the wrong frequency has something to do with memory depth and anti aliasing. I can't remember the exact details but Dave Jones (EEVBlog) has a recent video where he describes the effect perfectly, it takes me a couple of views to sink in ! its worth a watch...cheers.

Not to steal the show from this oscilloscope but youtube suggested me video with this one "ZEEWEII DSO1511G" its 25-65$ on aliexpress.
@LearnElectronicsRepair
@LearnElectronicsRepair Год назад
I also have another cheaper one, very similar features/price to the one you mention, on the way to play with and to show you guys. The DSO1511G is showing up at €61 inc delivery for me. The cheapest I could find the DS213 on AliExpress is €148 inc delivery. Bear in mind I am located in the Canary Islands so I don't have to pay the VAT (21% IVA in Spain) as it automatically deducts on AliExpress checkout. Also the DS213 and DSO1511 are not directly comparable - The DSO1511 is single channel, but claims higher bandwidth and has FFT.

At that price, I'd buy a modern "lunchbox" used digital 'scope.

It's OK but it's overpriced by at least 50%
@LearnElectronicsRepair
@LearnElectronicsRepair Год назад
I thought it was a little expensive for what it is and discussed this in the summing up section. I also did comment it is extremely well made and a joy to use. However the only way you could prove the point that is it overpriced by at least 50% is to suggest some models with the same performance or better that are available at half the price, yeah? If those cheaper models are found to be as good and there is no advantage to be gained for the extra money then the fact is proven, if not the fact is incorrect. That is my 'analytical repair' way of thinking process applying to your statement. I'm neither agreeing or disagreeing with your statement as I currently have no evidence to determine if it is correct or not. So go on, what should we compare it with? 😉
@koma7252

are there any other alternatives in the similar price range, that could be used for a bit of automotive work as well?

@@koma7252 Hantek scope meters, perhaps? Combined signal generator, scope and multimeter.

I do believe I was very pragmatic in the review, I showed how it performed and explained the features I liked/disliked. I neither recommended it nor did I not recommend it, but I did honestly like using it. I will have the opportunity to review some other hand held oscilloscopes shortly, so no doubt I can give a comparison at some point. I now have four oscilloscopes to use (the Tektronix analog scope, The Rigol DSO, Miniware DS213 and I actually have another 20MHz Analog Scope with built in signal generator made by LG though I never showed that one on video yet. If you are familiar with my videos, the one I grab most often is the Tektronix 100MHz which is about 40 years old, I bought it second hand in 1993 at a radio rally.
