The whole idea of the chain is to make the anchor work.....the anchor is not going to tip over and stay dug in without the chains weight and the buffer between the rope and the anchor to keep dug in with waves bobbing the boat.
In regards to your comment about the anchor continuing to let the line out, the easy fix for that is once you know the anchor has hit the bottom, I have to flip the off switch and then it will lock itself in place and will not let anymore line out. You just have to make sure you know for sure the anchor has reached the bottom before doing that.
I have one. I think they are great. If u do travel at high speed on the water and don't stow it inside your boat, use the safety chain. I didn't and inadvertently hit the down button on the remote switch and the anchor dropped and hit the water, then it swung up and left a big dent in the side of the hull. I agree with you, get a 30# anchor, but it does make a smaller boat list a bit on the front to the side the anchor is hanging from.
I AM HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE 30 LBS ANCHORS STICKING GOING DOWN. I HAVE TRIED 18 LBS AND STILL CATCHES ON THE WAY DOWN. WHAT EXACTLY IS THE ANCHOR YOU ARE USING IN THIS VIDEO?
I bottom fish and my front and rear anchor line are both 100ft, I drop my rear anchor and move forward 100ft then drop my front anchor and back up 50ft that way I have a good hold between my front and rear anchors, would I be able to do that with these anchors?
