Taylor breaks down the differences between the NEW Minn Kota ULTERRA QUEST and the old model. New features, casing, motors, etc! EVERYTHING you NEED to know about the new Ulterra Quest trolling motor!
Thanks so much for showing us the Slide Plate and how it works ! My 4 year old Ulterra decided to quit working on me and ruined a week long smallmouth trip so I’m going back to the Terrova. I heard these new motors stuck out farther than the older ones but that slide plate is really nice looks like I’ll be adding that too to my Ranger 👍👍👍
Finally a video showing and talking about the new mounting holes and bracket !! Thank you ! Definitely going to purchase one before the boat comes out of storage we have a Ranger 620 with the older Ulterra 👍👍
I just purchased the quest ulterra to replace my 2018 Ulterra I pilot link. The touch screen was way too sensitive and if your shirt brushed up against the remote it would make it do things you didn't want it to do, like deploy in shallow water and bend the deploy/stow motor shaft, I bent 2 shafts in less than 2 years. It would also stretch the belt. It would come out of spot lock. The worse thing it did, I was trolling on speed 6 and I saw a submerged rock. I went to steer to the right around it and nothing happened. It locked up the keys and screen and I hit it straight on. Both my Sister and I flew out of our seats. And, I heard fiberglass crunching around the mount. I called Minn Kota and they acted like they never heard of that problem with the touch screen remote. They sent me a new remote and immediately it did the same thing. I don't know why they didn't put a sensitivity adjustment on it. I did however find a solution on Ebay, someone 3D printed a cover that goes over the remote so the screen is kinda sunken in. It cured the problem with the remote. A couple of weeks ago, I went fishing, and I couldn't get it to stow again. Then, about an hour later, it quit working all together. I have about 6 months left on the warranty, so, I am going to send it in for repair and immediately sell it to take the sting out of my just purchased ulterra quest with the sliding plate. I couldn't believe that plate was 450 bucks. Highway robbery. I am not too happy with Minn Kota right now. I better not have problems with this quest. If some other manufacturer made auto deploy/stow, I probably wouldn't have gone with Minn Kota again. Thanks for the video, showing the comparison. 😊
Great video!!! I have a ulterra 24 volt. What is the weight difference between the quest and original ulterra? Not sold on the quest yet. Brushless and more beefy for sure. The future is here and has been for brushless motors. The emergency store is great for trim up on the quest but but your housing is still down and would be trouble trying to trailer up in a wind. The winch might smash it up. They should have incorporated a simple store method also, maybe they do? Also where is your bow light located on that boat? Quest is better but looks to me for bigger boats. Its the right direction but like anything else that first comes out, the bugs and updates will be addressed. The true test will be from fisherman with time on it. Thank you the video was excellent.
I appreciate the info. I have a 2017 Ulterra and hope it gets me another decade, but I haven't had to do any repairs on it and have done minimal maintenance. I do wish it was as beefy as the Quest, but I can't complain too much. It's been reliable, which isn't my buddy's experience with his 2021 Ulterra he had to repair 5 times before he finally sold it with warranty to spare.
@@scottkietzmann2065 Belt issues repeatedly, unable to stow and unable to deploy. So many problems it cost him major issues and money by the thousands because he is a guide. He figured it was the gravel roads he drove on and the daily use. My 2017 is only used 2-3 times a week during summer months since 2017. Plus, mine is not an ipilot link version either.
@@scottkietzmann2065 That’s an added 20 minutes a day possibly. I don’t think he figured it was entirely the gravel because I’ve been traveling on the exact same roads with no issues other than once not deploying the first try. He thought it was a production issue and so did the repairmen. But yeah, there are a lot of possibilities.
Why did it take them so long to get a brushless motor. I hope it trickles down to cheaper models as not everyone can afford one of these $3-4k units with brushless motors. The Chinese are going to take this market, look at haswing
Right, brushless motors have been out for over a decade. Their prices are ridiculous crazy. I just bought the new ulterra quest, it cost me $4125.00 out the door, but that sliding base plate was another $450.
@@bobczz3919 Seems like the sliding base plate negates being able to launch the boat by yourself. I guess it would help for when you use the boat cover.
@JFoxTN You might be right. But, I think I could extend the base plate on the ramp prior to boat launch. I haven't checked it out yet. I still have to remove my old Ulterra and install the new one. Hopefully I can get to it in the next week or so.
@@bobczz3919 Hi Bob, Is there a way to email you direct about your Ulterra Quest? I'm thinking about upgrading to the Ulterra Quest on a Tracker Targa V19 and have a lot of questions. I'd like to get your opinion on how it works out for you. What boat are you putting it on? Thanks
