Sometimes it is a stuck or broken switch that tells it when its deployed. Mine (freshwater) broke that U joint plastic piece that connects to the thing you were greasing. This Ulterrible has left me stranded four times due to its failures to calibrate and ability to break itself with the cheap internals.
On my channel I have several videos that are what I would call outside the lines or out of the box thinking. I was told to never grease that worm gear. That it would collect sand and wear out. Well brother if that stainless worm gear wears out in my lifetime then I just lived 500 years. Gears need greasing to keep from binding. Those plastic pieces break as they are overpowered by the torque from the steel. Grease now, save those plastic parts. Thanks for your comments.
I was also told the no grease at all just like you. But due to the wash it gets from the ocean, lake and the salt away I use to clean. The WD40 won’t keep it lubed and it will freeze up continuously. And if that 1/2 inch stainless steel worm gear rod wears down from the slow turn low repetition of stow and deploy well I don’t think I have that many lifespans brother to ever see that happen. LOL
Thanks I’ve had a number of issues with my Minn kota. With that being said it’s still the best there is out there. I plan on another video soon covering all of these problems and solutions. I have a strong feeling many of us are having these same problems.
You're welcome. I’ve had other issues with this Minn kota that I’ll post soon. The seal on top of the trim motor has been a problem since this model came out. There is some very important preventive maintenance that you need to know about before this motor locks up. It’s still a great trolling motor but lubricants and maintenance can’t be stressed enough.
