Just wanted to say thank you for this video. Was able to get my trolling motor back like it should be in under 30mins. Only pain in the ass for me was getting the pin out(took some heavy hits) and getting the nut started on the potentiometer. For anyone reading this my issue was that it wouldn’t turn left and felt like it was under a bind when trying to make it go left. Would work with remote and spot lock but not the foot pedal. It had the old style board with ribbon attached
You're a live saver! The instructions included with the replacement board are not very intuitive unless you've taken one apart before. Your video was spot on!
Fantastic video, fixed my steering issue. My tracker was still under warranty so Minn Kota said they would replace my steering sensor for free as long as I took it to a certified dealer to verify the issue. The only problem was that by time I got my boat to the dealer the foot pedal would dry out and it would function properly. So I got tired of having it malfunction while out on the water as soon as moisture got inside the pedal. I bit the bullet and paid the $90 for the part and everything works like a charm. Thanks for your help!
Excellent video and help with diagnostics. My Ultrex was bulletproof for the first 3+ years but then I had to put the boat away because my local impoundment was so low on water, we couldn't access the water that was left from the launch ramp! After a year and a half, I was finally able to launch in the 100% full lake only to discover there was no longer any power-assist for a left turn on the Ultrex. A quick search online yielded the fix and the video and now, 4 days later, I have the part in hand and am doing the easy repair. I'll be on the water this evening , flipping up some nice slobs from all the submerged brush! FISH ON!
I used your video to replace my steering sensor board today. Your directions where spot on. I had came home from fishing in a rain storm.Went out next day , steering went out real fast. I called minn kota, they sent me a replacement under warranty. Your video made replacement easy. thanks
Great install video! I replaced this part Dec ‘23. It’s worked fine since then…until it didn’t, last week. I was five hours from home with no spare TM on Dale Hollow lake. I managed the rest of my trip with the remote and spot-lock. I ordered two this time.
You make it look so easy. I'm doing mines after watching this tutorial thinking everything is as easy as you've made it but I can't align the peddle back at all
Excellent video!! Is there a way to test it? Mine worked fine and just stopped working. It will not steer with foot pedal or remote. The prop does work though. Everyone says it probably the control board but after watching this video, I'm thinking it's the steering sensor board.
@@Free_Palestine_River2Sea It wasn't the steering sensor board. The four screw that holds the steering motor in place fell out. I reinstalled those screws with loctite and it's still going strong
So I’m not sure if this is the part I need or not. The power assist on my foot control works only in one direct. I don’t believe it’s an obstruction because the remote still steers the boat perfectly. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!
I have another issue with my ultrex. I have already had the motor lock up and not turn so the sensor board did repair that issue. I had water in the lower unit or foot so I bought a whole new lower assembly and replaced with it working as should. Now I have the foot controller clicking with flashing lights when I step on the throttle button. I bought a new power button and replaced but did not fix the issue. I have had nothing but problems with this trolling motor but I do like the ipilot so I stick with it. I don't want to buy a new trolling motor after having bought a new Vexus and installed trolling motor less than 2 years ago. Can anyone help out? To clarify, the foot controller turns on as should but clicks and flashes when stepping on throttle button. The unit will turn as should but will not spin?
i replaced the sensor board, not my spot lock button doesnt work. i can spot lock with the remote, but not the button on the foot pedal. any suggestions?
Hello, I have a problem with my ultrex and I would like to know if you can help me, when there is little wind my ultrex turns completely to the right, it beeps and exits anchor mode. This only happens when I have little wind. When that happens the pedal stops responding to i-pilot control and I have to step on the pedal again and turn it a bit to get it working smoothly again. all other functions work correctly.
I am having the same issue and I just ordered the $96 steering control board first as the main control board is over $400 with tax and shipping. I called Minn Kota and the woman there advised to replace the main control board. I hope that she was wrong!

Went out today and discovered my ultrex didn't want to turn Right, but no problem turning left and no issues when on spot lock, is this sterring control board is what I need?. Thanks and keep up the great videos
It did not in my case. In my case, when I turned the power on, the motor rotated a full 360 degrees or more to the left and locked up the foot pedal. My motor is 5 years old so Minn Kota would not warranty a replacement even though they updated the steering control board due to numerous complaints. Shame on them!
