Minneapolis: Visiting George Floyd Autonomous Zone, Downtown & St Paul

The home ownership gap (white ownership vs black ownership) is the second highest in the US. It also has the highest racial poverty gap, which may explain the unrest after George Floyd. Minneapolis/St Paul, the Twin Cities in Minnesota, is a metropolitan area centered around the confluence of the Mississippi, Minnesota and St. Croix rivers. While there I visited the George Floyd Memorial, took a walk through both downtowns and in St Paul, found the wonderful Peanuts statues in the city's center. In Minneapolis, I visited St Anthony Falls and the Mary Tyler Moore statue.

St Paul seems to honor Charles Schulz more. This city used to have several dozens of Snoopy statues all over the city back in the late 1990s into the 2000s. Glad you saw the new bronze ones in Rice Park. The Mall of America's amusement park used to be called Camp Snoopy, today it's Nickelodeon Universe. We pronounce Nicollet as nick-lit.

I can appreciate your tourism videos. It’s unfortunate that with this one you missed so much about the area. As noted you missed in the downtown area the incredible music scene that is known as the Minneapolis sound. First Ave. and seventh Street entry the iconic walls that surround it. As well as the Schmidt music wall downtown which has an incredible history of Minneapolis. Also there are venues on either side of the river there. I noticed you were standing on the bridge looking at the river had you crossed over into Northeast Minneapolis you would’ve noted the Nye’s restaurant and music venue. Which has since been downsides but it’s still an institution in the area. The plethora of incredible bistros and eateries as Minneapolis is absolutely a foodie town. Also knowing that one of the truly greatest artists of our times came from Minnesota that being Prince Rogers Nelson. Paisley Park Museum, And the many iconic locations that surround the city and suburban areas that were elevated by the musical genius and putting Minneapolis on the map. Also the city of Lakes, meaning the beautiful chain of lakes that are in the uptown area, another area that unfortunately you were not able to see. Had you been near Lake of the Isles you could’ve actually seen where the actual Mary Tyler Moore house was. Also in that area is a native indigenous owned bookstore by the incredible author Louise Erdrich. As well as the incredible arts institutions such as the walker Arts Center and sculpture garden near Loring Park. Which boast one of the largest pride festivals in the country. Also the incredible mural artists throughout the city and historic theaters in the downtown area. There’s an incredible diverse cultural gathering. And I happen to be a girl who’s from Minneapolis. And I am the marrying kind, just ask my husband. Looking forward to your return trip to the area with a broader lens.

I’m from St Paul. There are Peanuts sculptures everywhere honoring Charles Shultz. People often venture across the city to get a picture with each one. Every sculpture is painted different and each has its own unique artist that painted them. You missed soooo many great spots in St Paul. Kinda disappointed.

I like most of your videos but this 1 missed the mark. Minneapolis is the city that the greatest musician of the last century was home to and his name is PRINCE! The iconic movie Purple Rain was shot in downtown Minneapolis and at the world renowned famous club FIRST AVENUE! Prince’s famous state of the art recording studio named PAISLEYPARK which is now also a museum is about 20 minutes from downtown in Chanhassen,MN. The next time you go to Minneapolis visit those 2 venues because the video is incomplete without a mention of Prince Rogers Nelson and the story of the Minneapolis sound that was a musical force and influence on the 1980’s sound in Pop and R&B music culture worldwide!

My favorite hometown places in the city include Summit Avenue, Como Park, the river parks (Hidden Falls, Crosby Farm, Lilydale and Harriet Island), Grand Avenue, the St.Thomas and St. Catherine's campuses, Newell Park, the downtown library, Landmark Center, Rice and Mears parks, baseball games at CHS Field, and watching movies at two preserved and operational 1930s movie theaters in my neighborhood.

The people are pretty cold, you arent missing out. I couldn't imagine being homeless there, I lived in Minneapolis from March of 99 to Sept of 02, in the summer it's humid and there are mosquitoes biting little raised nipples on your skin, in the wintertime it's below zero outside, not 32 Fahrenheit, below 0. There was 1 week in the spring and 1 week in the fall where it was neither humid or snowing. Whatever time of year it was, I recall looking out the window from indoors on my days off wishing it were a different time of year as if the weather would be more tolerable. To be homeless there would surely kill you in the wintertime. Everyone is a Democrat and talks about school. Since residents there spend so much time indoors, they're also pretty material best buy, home depot oriented etc., the opposite attitude of southern Americans. Huge heating and Air Conditioning bills and Home Owners Association fees exist there. If you're not from there, the residents are cliquey think Chicago people, theyre simply not warm and extentous the way people in the south are toward one another. The vernacular is corny in Minnesota, words like Homey, Spendy, swanky, ish..Welfare on Lake Street is extemely easy for everyone to qualify for in Minnesota, a lot of people just get welfare there just for the convenience of being on welfare. A huge Somalian and Vietnamase Hmong population and just foreign people from all over happen to live there too. The food is pretty bland there, not much Mexican or BBQ, Minnesota wants so bad to be upscale but it's still hick. Iowa, Wisconsin, The Dakotas, there's a little too much white bread going on there. If you move there from somewhere else you'll find the Autumn in the Twin Cities beautiful but the attitude of the people, their socialist/college attitude, bland food and lack of hospitality people skills/comprehension will make you want to leave

What they are trying to say is that within the 58 square miles, the city is very dense and packed. It feels like a big city in a way that Milwaukee doesn't. Many cities have much more square mileage, but they are really spread out and suburban feeling. No disrespect for Milwaukee at all because Milwaukee is a great city, but Minneapolis/St. Paul is a much denser and more urban experience with taller buildings, more amenities and more big cities sights than Milwaukee.

Sorry, not interested in anything to do with an ex-convict Black person that resisted police then paid the price. Good riddance.

I love watching your travels and hearing about all the places you go through, BUT, your trip through Minneapolis (and St. Paul) sucked. Snoopy? That's all you could think about talking about? Minneapolis is one of the prettiest cities with more city parkland and lakes than anywhere else in the country. It's well known for the Parks and Lakes, FPS. Do over please.
