If you look further into those Darnold 2022 games you will see that he got them to a 14 point lead against the Bucs in Tampa, before Brady and Evans combined for 200 yards and 3 TDs to escape with a win, in the game that effectively decided the division. Furthermore, Darnold inherited that team at 3-8, under an interim coach, after CMC was traded, and after Baker had opened the season 1-6. In the 49ers loss he quickly got them out to a significant lead, even after the starters were pulled, but then the kicker missed a 38 yd FG and a PAT, and the back up defence collapsed in the second half. Darnold's other spot duty for the 49ers came against Ravens who were trashing them. Darnold immediately drove the field for an 8 point TD, then drove the field in his next possession with time nearly up, and forced a pass into the end zone that was intercepted. I highly recommend for any Vikes fans who doubt Darnold to watch any of his 2022 or 2023 games. Jettas makes the QB better, and I don't think there is any reason why Darnold can't be just as effective as Cousins at running this Vikes offence.

Depends on the team build. Seems like they're doing the right thing. The counter-example to this is the Chiefs and Tyreek Hill. That trade created a bonanza of draft picks and gave tremendous cap relief for their free-agency moves. $30-$35 million a year will afford a team a number (greater than 1) of good players. Stay #1 at one position at the cost of being good at 4 or 5 positions? Not necessarily a good move, depending on the current (and future) state of your team build. If they really want a champion, they should show it by playing home games on real grass.

Once you get traded or start playing for a new team you owe nothing to the old team. The question should be: "what idiot would trade a current player to a team you're playing this season?" If your OC doesn't put a couple of calls in to take advantage of players expecting a call to mean something else, then that's on them.

There’s always something missing with every team we’ve had. 60s-70s: lacked play makers and secondary 90s: lacked a QB and secondary 00s: lacked a QB and play makers 10s: lacked a QB and iOL 20s: lacked a QB and trenches We tie up money to HOF/pro bowl caliber players which hamstring us form improving areas and building depth.

There needs to be a comedy about a fringe player who was cut from one team for not paying attention being picked up by a rival team trying to get insider information. Only because he wasn't paying attention he doesn't have any good info and because of the particulars of the signing he has to stay on the active roster for the year. Meanwhile he knows he's not that great and nothing he does is going to effect how much he gets paid so he does all he can to avoid being put in situations where he's responsible for a game's outcome.

@intrepidfool
@intrepidfool Месяц назад
Darnold isn’t a good NFL QB. It would be a huge step forward if he became serviceable in his 7th season. I just don’t see how an athletically gifted, but mentally and emotionally incapable QB can take that next step. Poor performance under pressure cannot be coached around reliably. He will be pressured. And unfortunately, he hallucinates (sees ghosts), gets tunnel vision, cannot read the field, and turns the ball over. His athletic gifts have allowed him to carve out a career as a journeyman backup but he is quite simply a limited NFL QB. Better to hope that McCarthy balls out - which is at worst a 40% probability based on previous rookie first rounders - than invest energy in the highly improbable outcome of Darnold suddenly becoming a good starting QB.

Stop trading Darnold away. McHandoff might not pan out then what? If Darnold has a great year why would you keep Mr McHandoff who is unproven and let the proven QB walk? Darnold is still young. 26 is very young yet for a QB so Im keeping Darnold until McHandoff can actually prove he can play in the NFL.

Paying a WR 35 million a year is only a good idea if you're certain you have a QB who can get him the ball. Since that is something Minnesota doesn't have it is almost 100% guaranteed that Jeffersons numbers will drop over the next couple of years while you develop that QB. Now you have the highest paid player on the team unhappy and bitchin about the QB which cannot help with that development. Having a QB and Edge on a rookie contract is only a good idea if you're rebuilding or just get lucky by finding 2 guys who can play at that level.
@sportqcguy9630
@sportqcguy9630 Месяц назад
All due respect, do you really think Jefferson signs the deal here if he's not happy with the QB situation? If this was a trash organization with a quarterback abyss (old Detroit, old Cleveland, current Panthers), any WR, let alone the NFL WR1, with any sense wouldn't even consider an extension.
@robe2504
@robe2504 Месяц назад
They're not paying him $35m a year. $8m this season, $15m next season, $37m in 2026, $43m in 2027 - that's $105m in 4 years, about $26m a year. In 5 years time they can decide whether Jettas is worth $47m, or not and avoid $40m of that. Who knows what $47m will feel like in 5 years time. Remember when the reports came out about TJ being the highest paid TE? Last season Jettas, Addison & TJ cost $11m COMBINED, this season they will cost $26m, and in 2025 they will still only cost $34m in total. It is no big deal until so far into the future that we can't really estimate the relative cost meaningfully.
@sportqcguy9630
@sportqcguy9630 Месяц назад
@@robe2504 yeah 4/140 as announced, for an average annual value of 35/yr. Just because it's not a flat rate each year doesn't mean the AAV (which literally EVERYONE looks at, except you apparently) isn't 35M...
@robe2504
@robe2504 Месяц назад
@@sportqcguy9630 No, it means UP TO $140m. That number is always BS an irrelevant because there is no commitment to it. Yes, I don't know why tf people get sucked in by those numbers because they are rarely paid out. Team budgets are determined by a players annual salary cap hit which has nothing to do with the contract's apy. We don't even know what proportion of the salary cap that future number will be because the salary cap changes each year - but that won't stop other idiots talking about the % of salary cap. We know Jefferson's contract is 3.3% of the 2024 cap, slightly less than Harrison Phillips and slightly more than Harrison Smith. We estimate that it will be about 6% of the 2025 salary cap, about the same as TJ Hockenson, and a little less than Darrisaw's 5th year option - but everyone got this year's cap wrong by about 12m so who knows. You are talking about the same morons that claimed TJ Hockenson was the highest paid TE in the league last season - when he cost the Vikes $4.9m and barely made the top 20 TEs. He hypothetically could become the highest paid TE in 2028 if no TEs are signed for more than $21m in the next 3 years, AND the Vikes don't cut or renegotiate/restructure before then. TJ still won't make the top 5 highest paid TEs in the next two seasons, even if no one gets a new deal - that didn't stop half the fanbase and innumerate idiots calling him the highest paid TE all year. The Vikes only have to pay about $110m in the next 4 years, and can then decide whether they pay the $47m for 2028 or not. If Jefferson is not the same superstar he is now, they can save $40m against the cap by moving on or trading, so it may never be a $140m deal, but will always definitely be a $110m deal. That's the point.
@intrepidfool
@intrepidfool Месяц назад
@@robe2504Those number from spotrac aren’t accurate. I saw another report with the breakdown. A lot more money up front and less on the back end. It is pretty much a lock that he gets it all as the biggest jump is less than $40M. $140 + the 5th year over the next six seasons (void year in 2029).

Aaaahhhh Excuse me - but this guy laughed when you mentioned Sam Darnold, seriously. Obviously, his opinion, however, I must say that I do not put much stock in his opinion on this Specific matter, lol. Slinging Sammy is the FIRST guy I thought of the second you posed the question. IFFFF Sam can show what he is Truly capable of with the Vikings and has a Good year, getting the Vikings to a 10 - 7ish record, heck OR Dare I say BETTER (as long as we do not get hit with any key injuries on offense or defense). There is Absolutely NO reason for the Cowboys Not to call him. By the way I agreed Immediately that Dak has got to go. I NEVER thought he was a top qb even after he stated that he was after his first year. Dak seems like a Really Good Guy, but Sorry, I never saw him as a Top guy. Obviously, the results NOW speak for themselves - he has proven he is not. So Dak is Gone and that is a No Brainer! I will put 50g's down right now that IFFFF Sam has a Slingin Good year 10 - 7ish and especially IF the Vikings make the playoffs - Yes, PLAYOFFFFFS! Jerry picks Sam up on his personal plane! UNLESS, some other Top QB becomes available somehow. Barring any unforeseen event such as that. Sams Star Shines in Minni, Sammy will be a Cowgirl next year, Guaranteed! Heck, maybe Sam gets the Vikings to the Superbowl - OMG, he stays with the Vikings and JJ sits another year (IF he is not ready). OR IFFF JJ is ready the Vikings TRADE Slingin Sammy to the cowgirls. How cool would that be, Jerry owes us bigtime! My understanding is that Sam signed a 2 yr deal with some kind of option after the first. I have NO IDEA as I am NOT a hardcore follower of the Vikings (WAY TO MUCH PAIN after 50 yrs of heartache H - - L, lol, but not funny). Looking through the lenses of my purple goggles I really believe Sam Darnold is going to have a good year. If so, given his relatively young age do you sign him to a long term contract mid season? I hadn't even thought of it until you mentioned it. Thank you for your opinion, it makes me even more excited for the coming years given our improved defense and more leeway with future cap room.
