Sweet Minny is the goat when it comes to cooking. She doesn't play with her chicken and neither should you 😋 The Help (2011) Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
I love the relationship between these women. Celia didn’t need help as much as she needed a friend. Minnie didn’t need a job as much as she needed to be cared about.
LoL, I watched a clip of an interview with them, it said she didn't actually eat fried chicken as hers was some kind of vegetarian substitute, LoL only Minnie had real stuff
It was the alcohol probably. Makes some people nicer, some more aggressive and angry, and some very sad. Celia was an alcoholic and unfortunately her miscarriage was not helped by the endless drinks
@@doomsdaymonster7 She only drank alcohol at that party. Her whole thing was sneaking drinks of some BS tincture that was supposed to help her keep the baby. Minnie thought she was boozing but it was a last ditch effort to be able to keep a baby.
@@sarahschultz4866 As someone who is familiar with alcoholism disorder through formerly close contacts - you know that... alcoholics lie to themselves and everyone around them. I didn't buy the "tonic" story for a SECOND. It was actually quite clever. The house was unkempt, which is consistent with alcoholism. Celia's demeanor from the outset was 'tipsy'. Jessica Chastain actually NAILED the covert alcoholic persona of this character through body language and speech, with the help of a stellar screenplay. And then at the big party, Celia stopped giving a damn about the remainder of her secret and went all out. This is textbook to me. Didn't buy the tonic thing for a second
@@doomsdaymonster7 According to the book, Celia was drinking some sort of 'catch tonic' made with water and molasses. Even Minny thought Celia was drinking secretly, but the book clearly states she was not. In the book, the only time Celia was drunk was at the Benefit Ball.
My parents employed a live-in African American housekeeper for forty years. She had all her meals with the family because she was family. She was included in all family activities and when she passed away it was as devastating as losing any other close family member.
@@williamegler8771that’s amazing and the first I’ve ever heard of a black housekeeper being treated well and allowed to sit with family. First time on tv was Gimme A Break in the 80’s where Nell Carter acted as a mother to the kids she cared for.
@@SkyTherapy my families "nanny" was also a black woman who gave us over two decades of amazing service. She got one of the bigger bedrooms (my grandpa's reasoning was she needs her own space where as we have free reign over the entire house) and because there was a "no food anywhere but the kitchen/dining" rule into affect she ate every meal with the family as well.
@Lyn Calpurnia in To Kill a Mockingbird. I don't recall her eating with the family, but she was treated well. Though I wasn't around at the time to know if movies had more social privileges than TV shows
Their relationship is my favorite in the movie. When Celia cooks the whole dinner for Minny of all the recipies she taught her it makes me cry every single time.
Every Dollar General sells them. Bottom shelf with the storage bags/trash bags 😊 Edit: I'm assuming you live somewhere that has DG which if you're in the U.S. there's most likely one within a ¼ mile of you no matter where you are 😂
Celia and Minnie’s interactions makes the world a better place. Ostracizing and isolating people can lead to the person ostracized and the person isolated to develop an unexpected friendship.
This is extraordinary true. The truest friends you pick up are those you know the least about at first. It's more an attraction and you're more honest.
i love celia and minnie’s relationship ship. celia actually treated her like a human being and a friend. it’s the bare minimum but in those times it was super rare.
So heart breaking how many miscarriages she had and all those girls would be so CRUEL to her for thinking she was sleeping with one of their men when it wasn’t true, she wanted friends and she got the most rarest friend around ❤
Women still act like that when they see another as just as or more beautiful. It's just as horrible as sexualizing people. Gorgeous women get ostracized and bullied just for being beautiful even when they have no clue what everyone is going on about 💔💔💔
Celia was so sweet and beautiful, and how those other women were so jealous of her in the way they treated her, it makes me cry when I watch it because I have felt like Celia so many times. It’s a real thing, if you’re nice, caring, and happen to be pretty, sometimes that scares people off and they want to make you feel bad about yourself. it makes them feel less threatened I love Minny too. she was so strong and beautiful, and I loved it she just wanted to help Celia
“I’m so nice, caring & pretty people are just scared of me, that’s why they’re sooo mean to me” read that aloud to yourself. Do you see now? That’s why you’re very unpopular. Nobody’s jealous, you’re just not a likeable person...🤷🏻♀️
That’s not why they were “scared off”. They thought she was a hussy and wanted nothing to do with her. Then Hilly thought she told people about the pie.
I was treated that way at work...I know how it feels. But I was one who never thought I was pretty or understood why anyone would be jealous of me. I'm kind hearted and love uplifting ppl..sometimes higher than myself. Somehow ppl just misjudged me and felt my being nice, sweethearted , smart and pretty I was fake. Even picked every one of my flaws apart and laughed so they could feel better about why they were such bullies. I forgave them but I quit that job with no unemployment but sometimes it's better to have peace than be right. Some ppl can be so pretty and talented and be so mean spirited and ugly inside. This movie touched my heart in more ways than one. Thank God for ppl like celia and Minny.
@@bodhiswayze1892your jealousy shows through the comment. Someone being vulnerable sharing their painful experience and you did what she said everyone does. Literally proved her point lol
One glance at this video & I'm transported, to the love they had for each other. I'm white, 68y. This is one of my fav movies. It blows my mind how many Afrixan Anericans have even treated poorly, yet they continue to love others. I have so much to learn. I pray & hope it will change that black actors get paid equal to white actors.
You must be White!! That was NOT a friendship!!! 🥴 If you can't see what that is I see why whites think racism doesn't exist!!! 🧐 You can't possibly be THAT naive!!!!??? 👀👀👀👀👀🤡🤡🤣🤣🤣🤣🥴🥴😂😂
Love their relationship. Wish this was the majority between two different people brought in different circumstances that wish to assist each other wholeheartedly.
One of my fav lines from the movie . Minnie was such a bad ass I loved her so much . She had a special bond with that lady and took care of her. She was hilarious with Sissy Spacek and that evil daughter of hers . But she had the last laugh with that chocolate pie . Had me tolling j Just watch it again last night never get tired of this money great actors and performances. The entire cast was fantastic ❤❤❤q
Thank you Baby, I was searching the comments for this. I wonder if it's on Netflix... Thanks for helping, hopeyvou have a wonderful evening, sweetheart xxx
I loved Minny in The Help. If I were born in those times I would have been a Minny. The attitude and a great cook. Hell, I’m Minny right now in these times🤣😂🤣
I loved this relationship. Because the blonde girl just needed to be seen, and loved. And mini gave that to her*, she gave mini what she needed. To be seen, and appreciated.
Jessica Chastain and Olivia Spencer are real life friends. Jessica was shocked when Olivia brought up the pay disparity between women of color and Caucasian women in Hollywood. They worked on a film together and Jessica said they would tie themselves together in the contract negotiations, ensuring they made the same. Octavia revealed this story and said that the two of them got that 5x what they asked for, together.
It was a different era. People dated different people back then (without sleeping with them). People would double-date for companionship/dance partner for an evening without having an interest in the other person, just so your girl or guy pal could go on a date with someone they fancied. Girls would drag one of their friends along, and fellas would do the same. However, sometimes you'd meet "the one" and everyone else fell by the wayside. I think this is likely to be what happened when Hilly's friend went out with Johnny. Johnny met Celia, and she was his "one." Hilly was a nasty, bitter character. She had the world as her oyster and still wasn't all that happy. I loved the pie scene in this film with Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard and Sissy Spacek!
@@pamelalansbury94 no. It looks like fried chicken, that’s why most people didn’t know it was fake. There’s no need to throw shots, this ain’t the gun range.
