Hi Doctor .. Greetings from Egypt , I have 2 questions for you 1- My doctor in Egypt (the most famous in the country) has adviced me to take only avodart 0.5 twice a week forever and he said this is much more better than finastride 1mg everyday more effective and more safe ,, Do you agree with that ? 2- I want to use minoxidil only once per day (before the bed) .. will i loss my gains ? once a day will be effective ? Thank you doctor for your efforts
@@BAMX77 surely Dutasteride is not safer than Finasreide since it blocks much more DHT! But his reasoning may have ben something else. Minoxidil should only be used once a day.
Hi sir how are you please clarify the doubt sir.... minoxidil & finasteride Topical solution good for hair after hair transplant how many year used sir?
Doc, you are dropping some excellent knowledge without sleazy sales tactics. I just got my hair transplant a few days ago, and I truly appreciate the information you provide. Thank you!
This video should be required viewing for anyone using or considering minoxidil. Extremely helpful and dispels a lot of myths circulating online. Thanks Doc!
hi doc greeting from egypt thx for all this info 1- i have a question plz >>> i had my hair transplant 3 weeks ago and my doctor asked me to take regaine foam minoxidil 5 % for 8 months then tappering it with minoxilook 2% over 4 months as i want to quit minoxidil so if i quit minoxidil after 1 year will i lose my transplanted hair or my existing hair that is present now ??? (some info i am 26 year old - bladness grade 4 i think that there is no more hair loss before i got my surgery as stable condition) 2- if there is no benefits really after i quit over the year can i quit now after 2 weeks of using regaine foam!!?
Very unusual advice. You should be on oral Finastreide if you wish to keep your transplanted hairs for long and not let speed of baldness make the transplanted area look like an island.
@@hairtransplantinindia THANKS for letting me know that but that mean minoxidil 5% can not stop baldness progress or keep the transplanted hair for long time !?!
Your in depth knowledge time and again proves to be so helpful sir. I have got answers to many of my questions surrounding hair loss and the medicines used in treating it
A brilliant coverage on the subject of Minoxidil Dr Bhatti. If I could achieve just 10% of that coverage I would have a full head of hair by now! ;-) Thanks for sharing!
Great coverage on this topic Dr. Bhatti. In my case, I have a vast area of baldness and I did a hair transplant 8 months ago. I haven't take Minoxidil or Finasteride so far, however, I would like to improve the thickness of my scalp, so I would like to know if is still recommended to take Minoxidil and go through the shedding phase again on the donated area.
You would have had a better result if you had taken it! It will not affect much at this stage if the hair are from your permanent donor zone. You may, however, take it to safeguard your thinning native hair, if that is also your problem.
Hair transplantation - Minoxidil Question: I have Norwood 2. I have been taking Finasteride for a year, but unfortunately, I have not seen much improvement. Initially, I only took 1mg three times a week, but now I take 1.25mg daily. It hasn't gotten much worse, but it hasn't gotten any better either. I have a hair transplant appointment in October. Im thinking of going on Minoxidil and my doctor said I could try it out. However, I read on the internet that Minoxidil should be stopped for about 7 days before and after the hair transplant. My question is, should I start using Minoxidil now and stop using it for two weeks in 5 months because of the hair transplant? Or should I wait until after my hair transplant to start using Minoxidil? On the one hand, I want to stop my hair loss and promote hair growth as soon as possible, but on the other hand, I am afraid that the back-and-forth use of Minoxidil could do more harm than good. Or is stopping Minoxidil for 2 weeks not a big deal? Thank you in advance. To clarify, my concern is that if I start using Minoxidil now to achieve fuller hair, the doctor may use weakened hair from my donor area that has been treated with Minoxidil for the hair transplant, resulting in potential hair loss at the front in 3-6 years. Therefore, I wonder if would be more prudent to wait until after the hair transplant to ensure that the implanted hair is strong and stable before beginning Minoxidil use. How long should I wait after the hair transplant before using Minoxidil?
I'm a very good responder to minoxidil, when I used it for 5 months it covered up my entire baldspot (norwood 3.5). However I believed it was causing me heart palpitations at night and some very unusual chest pain on the left side of my chest where my ribcage starts in a very specific area. I was only using about half a capful of foam 1x per day (which i believe is the recommended amount). When I stopped, the symptoms went away after about 2 weeks, within 9 months all the hair I regained was gone. I am trying it again now at even a lower dose now by diluting 6% liquid to 3% using propylene glycol and only applying to my crown and not my whole head, roughly .5 ML of liquid. This time I am not getting the palpitations but the chest pain started up again about a month into treatment and I am thinking I need to stop again right in the middle of the shedding. Have you heard about this before? I am an athletic and healthy 39 year old male with no heart condition per an echocardiogram after the first incident.
Yes I have heard about this before. Pleaes stop the medication and show yourself to a cardiologist or an internist. He may need to do a cardiovascular assessment.
@@hairtransplantinindia thank you for the response. I did do an echocardiogram and even wore a Holter monitor for 2 weeks with no irregularities. I think I'm just sensitive to minoxidil. Hopefully I did not cause any damage
@@ITZME11592 Ive tried the kirkland foam and the hims spray, i believe the foam is water based, had palpitations with both. is there a specific brand/type you used? It worked so well I wish I could tolerate it
Great video Doc! This must be *the* most balanced and well explained video on this topic in the entire YT universe! Have a couple of questions of my own, if you don't mind answering... 1. Had my HT surgery 3 weeks back. Am on Finastride 1 mg (every alternate day) for last 2 weeks. Is this dosage adequate to ensure optimum growth of newly planted grafts? Or should i start taking it every day? I had 'brain fog' sort of reaction with it some time before HT, hence being a little cautious this time (or if you can suggest some sort of mechanism with which i can prevent horrible brain fog, that would be just wonderful) 2. Minoxidil - Starting with 5% Tugain foam from tomorrow. I hope its sufficient. I know you recommend 2% to start with, but i have taken 5% earlier and my skin was fine with it, so hope starting with 5% now shouldn't be problem. A yes or no from your end will be helpful Q.1. above is super critical, would really love to hear your expert opinion / advice on the same. Thanks
Thanks for watching. In reply: Qs 1- I would not recommend alternate days but then your treating doctor knows your condition better and must have seen a lower total testosterone level to suggest this reduced dosage. Qs 2- Now that it is 3 weeks after the procedure, this question has lost its relevance. Pleaes continue 5% Minoxidil.
So much I have learned to watch and listen your videos, Dr., I am more relaxed as I only apply minoxidil once a day and it is not serious if I use a little more than 1 ml (not exaggeratedly). Can give me your opinion if liposomal minoxidil 2% is more effective than industrialized minoxidil 5%? Thank you very very much, Dr
I could not stop myself hitting a Big Thumbs-up to this video. You are really outstanding Sir. You have such a huge and deep knowledge in this field. I got cleared with most of my doubts... Please keep going with more ☺️☺️
@@hairtransplantinindia Hi Doctor First of all, many thanks to you for sharing such great information through your youtube channel and I am a good follower of all your videos. Six days back I underwent HT surgery in my locality. I read a couple of safety measures that should be followed post HT on the internet and understood that we are not allowed to take blood thinning drugs post HT for a week or more. But unknowingly I have started taking Follihair and Finasteride tablets starting from the next day of the surgery. 1) Are Follihair and Finasteride belongs to Blood thinning drugs? Did I make something wrong by taking these drugs from the wrong time? What should I do to make it correct now?
Good morning Doctor. I am a female 50yrs old with no problem with hairloss and did HT a month ago because of cosmetic reason (to lower my hairline). Should I use finasteride and minoxidil for better result? Thank you in advance.
Thank you for sharing and educating It is an amazing video. I have a question, after Hair Transplant minox is one of medication to be used for 6 months. After if we stop, what we should expect pertaining to hair (Natural and Transplanted) ??! What are the effects of stoping it.
Dr bhatti, I’ll be coming to you for my HT end of this year/beginning of next as my crown in thinning and I think I’ll need one. I hear FUT is better for the crown? Whats your take on this? Thanks. And great video!
FUT and FUE are just harvesting techniques. In fact the laxity at the back of the head becomes less since the strip that is redundant skin fold is removed. This will stretch your crown and expand it further. Do not believe what anyone tells you. Do more research before going in for a hair transplant.
Thank you for this great video! As well for all the content 🙏! Doc I had a question, I am 4 months after my transplant and I was thinking of starting minoxidil.. Do you recommend using it at this time ?. I am worried about the shedding to be honest. I have never used minoxidil before. Since my transplant all I have been using is my 6 months medications (saw palmetto, biotin and food supplements 1 of each every day) I also started using castor oil and jojoba oil now every 2-3 days to help with dry scalp . Should I keep using the oils as well? Thank you sir‼️ hope I hear back from you🙏
Thank you for such good content doctor🙏 I had a question, i was unable to use minoxidil for around 12 days as i was travelling and starting to use it again now. Will i go through the shedding phase again by not applying minoxidil for just 12 days or will i pick up growth from where i left? Your point of view is very valuable🙏
I have very mild baldness my hair grows out ok but it is very fine and when u wash it it becomes brittle and breaks/sheds. Would minoxidil help counteract this problem? Thankyou
Hello sir, thanks for the informative video. I had undergone 2500 grafts hair transplant surgery. Is it recommended to apply minoxidil on complete scalp or only on donor or receiver area? Another question I have is, I got my 1st head wash for scab removal on the 6th day of hair transplant. I was told that grafts are firmly secure after 3-4 days of surgery. What's your opinion on this? Thanks for replying.
Minoxidil after hair transplant is needed for the planted area. For other areas you have to decide if you will be using it after 6 months or else thinning hairs so maintained in non transplanted hairs will return to original state. Grafts are secure at one week. However we continue care till 2 weeks. For your care, please follow your doctor's advice.
Love your channel which has helped answer a lot of question. What are you thoughts about these 2 products called "More Hair Naturally 9" and "Revivogen" which is grew really popular in 2020 and continues to be a go to be in 2021??. Their sales combined went up from 25 million in 2019 to almost 80 million in 2020. Very interested in hearing ur take on it before i try them.
Doctors it's too good to see you so active and sharing your thoughts..One query doctor, 1,how long should i apply , I heard discontinuation of medicine after 6 months happened hair loss again..
Yes native thinning hairs (not transplanted ones) which had shown improvement and were sustained by hair growth medicines Fin+Minox would revert to their previous condition.
Very informative. I'm in my early 50s and I started taking fanasteride for a few months with great results and then added minoxidil once a day with micro needle 2 times a week and its truly made a massive difference ! The regular treatment is easy as cleaning your teeth 😬
Hi Dr. Love your video. Would like to ask. compare to orals Minoxidil, which one give better result ? will the hair shedding effect same across both ? FYI, i try apply topical Minoxidil (5%) using a spray bottle for 3 days, and my hair falling like crazy (also having all the side effect like swelling face, headache etc). that scary me really bad and i decided to stop immediately. So now, i considering the oral version of it. Will that be better ?
Oral Minoxidil is better; but it has a narrow safety margin. Hair shedding is universal with all medications that have a salubrious effect and counter hair loss.
Hello, If we liquefy the foam version(easier to apply and does not contain PG), can it be bottled for use throughout the month? Or does it lose it's potency?
Shelf life is less. Diluting will cause decreased potency. Will not remain foam if bottled. Will need alcohol as well. Counter intuitive since it's costlier than lotion.
Doctor, I used minoxidil in the past and had great results. I started using again 10 days after hair transplant and my recipient area is red. Should I lower it to every other day or is the redness normal from the transplant? I'm using 5%. Thank you
I advise my patents 2% Minoxidil (the one meant for women- in pink container) for 2 weeks and then review them to see if there is any redness and excessive reaction. The skin is tender after the surgery and one has to be careful.
Dr, I discovered reciently here in RU-vid and I am so adicted to your videos, the best and most informative by far. One question, if I cut my hair as military style(2mm) for the 1-2months shedding time is more easy to apply and then see results of Minoxidil??? Thank you
Would you recommend someone using minoxodil following a hair transplant? I have never used it before and currently 2 weeks post op of FUE transplant. I am taking dutasteride 0.5mg per day. Preciously used finasteride for 9 months but all I did was continue to shed for this period. Thanks in advance
Minoxidil is part of the Quad after hair transplant that I suggest: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J7DMv_iUnSU.html However it is not a DHT locker and not an alternative to Finasteride/ Dutasteride.
is 2ml of minox per session excessive? i apply it to nearly my entire scalp. surprisingly in only 5 or 6 weeks i have noticed regrowth on bald regions along my hairline but i'm not sure if this much minox with sustained use (assuming i take it for multiple years) is unhealthy, particularly for the heart
It is not at all unhealthy for the heart if 5% is applied in dose 1 ml once a day. It is a stimulator. Causes hair regrowth through vasodilation- that is increasing the size of the vessels to bring more blood.
Minoxidil grows new hair, but I never understood how it "maintains" existing hair, like it is marketed. As you said, it's not a blocker and doesn't address the underlying mechanism of androgenic alopecia. Would you say those who use minoxidil without finasteride are simply regrowing hair at a faster rate than they are losing it, and that at a certain point, the rate of losing hair will outpace the rate of regrowth from minoxidil, and so using minoxidil with a dht blocker is recommended to attack the problem from both ends - regrowth and blocking? Sort of like offence and defence, if you will.
Minoxidil as you have correctly interpreted is not the long term panacea for hair loss. Unless DHT is adressed, canot even think of reigning in your baldness. However since Minoxidil and Finasteride have different modes of action, Minoxidil as an adjuvant in support of Finasteride will always give a better looking head of hair.
i was 16 and got an undercut hairstyle (army cut) for ncc. I had a family function in a month so i wanted my hair to grow faster so i started applying oil... didn't help much and a cousin of mine told me to use Minoxidil (told me it is similar to oil but has amazing results). I applied it on my hair line and temporals.. Felt dizziness and headache after an hour or so... later on i dide touch it... two days later i had heavy itching all over my scalp and on cheeks(was very irritating). Took shower and slept. Next morning after waking up observed heavy shedding of hair from my temporal and hairline... Scalp felt very dry and i was worried and scared.. The hairfall continued for more than 3-4 months. Showed to a dermatologist who told me it is androgenic alopecia. Since then till today i have never seen hair growth on the particular area where it was applied. Other than that i have good hair density but i can't style my hair because of irregularities in hairline and temples. There is no history of genetical baldness in my family... No diabetes or any other health issues. I'm 24 and I've lost all confidence to go out and meet people... If i could afford a hair transplant i would surely go for it and i would consult Dr. sahab for the same. I feel helpless.
You disturbed the equilibrium of your hair growth cycle by acting on amateur advice. You surely have androgenetic alopecia. The hair must have been thinning or just about to start thinning. When you applied Minoxidil he hair went into shedding for 3 months. That is what always happens. But then you perhaps stopped Minoxidil and the shedding phase rather than lead to good growth could not not do any better. I doubt it will not help much. You should take prescription Finasteride after showing yourself to a local physician.

Hi Doctor. As per my search, most of the sources recommends keeping the solution on the scalp for 6-8 hours based on the study that claims that 75% of the solution will be absorbed by the scalp after 4 hours. So, can you please explain why you think 90 minutes are enough? Thank you very much doctor for your kindness in answering all questions 🙏🏼🙏🏼
It is too greasy to use and hair which look thinner, look worse if you keep it for longer. The whole idea is to not look thin. But then my patients mostly have no problems with Finasteride.
Hello Doctor, it's my 30th day post transplant. I have been using minoxidil (Regain 5%) for 15 days. My scalp is very dry even after oiling and washing according to your instructions, I feel a pleasurable itching on my transplanted area. What can I do?
Thank you very much Dr for the great video on Minoxidil. My question, will minoxidil keep my existing hair for as long as I use it .. or I will keep balding even if I am on minoxidil after a period of time? If yes, how many years, roughly will it maintain my existing hair? Thank you again doctor!!
Minoxidil is not a DHT blocker. The benefit you stated, is the work of a DHT blocker. Minoxidil will not interfere with the baldness timeline- it will only keep hair healthy as long as your genetics wish them to remain on your scalp.
@@hairtransplantinindia thank you for your kind response Doctor. I am actually getting into grade 3 and I am almost 29 years old. Hi Doctor, I made recently a transplant. Is it good to use Minoxidil 5% Foam of course, in the transpanted area or in the around transplanted area? I don't know if is better to use it also in the transplanted area because I am afraid that if I stop, I will also drop the transplanted hair that may not have the dht receptors. What is your opinion to use Minox 5% in the transplanted area? Thanks
Transplanted hairs need all the chances to survive the growth phase. Once they are optimally grown , they will not fall off since they are not miniaturising hairs. Unless miniaturised hairs have been transplanted since your surgeo has not done anagen selection while harvesting.

Hey doctor. I had a transplant 2 years ago, but the doctor told me not to take minoxidil. I haven't taken minoxidil since before my hair transplant and I think this has affected my results tremendously. I'm currently taking duastride and topical dutasteride, microneedling and prp once a month, you think I should add minoxidil 2 years later?
Hi doc. I already have 2 HT and particularly after the second one i had a massive result particularly during the post OP i take minoxidil foam 5% twice a day for 6 months. After 6 months once a day but i've started to see much less density of hair. I stopped minox and it's something like 4 months i did not assume it anymore. Now my situation i think is not the same of the first 6 months of minoxidil usage. I would not assume it forever... Any suggestion? Maybe i should use it twice a day only for "big hair moments like summer"? Or maybe i'm just under the side effect of dropping minox usage and then my hair will re-sincronize in future months? I did 2 HT in 2 different years. Frontal mid and vertex.
When you stop any hair loss medications and since results are sustained by its continued usage, hair so sustained and maintained will fall off soon after cessation of the medication. You need to also know that Minoxidil is not a DHT blocker and hence you are ascribing to much attention to it while fighting hair loss.
@@hairtransplantinindia the only way to regain that result so is to assume minoxidil 5% again? Maybe my follicules are desynchronized after the 2 HT in 2 different years and the usage of minoxidil for 1 year and another year after 2nd HT? I'm asking if i can reach naturally that result again.

Thanks for watching. Cloning will be a boon for those with poor scalp donors when it is available to the hair loss sufferer. In the meantime, if you are serious about retaining hair, a DHT blocker is the best bet.

Sir after my 1st prp(15 days after Hair Transplant) my doctor advised me to use minoxidil Check fall f solution, but after using that I got its side effects like redness, itching, swelling and some hello hard dandruff on my recepient area and my scalp became hard and on 18th day I scratched my scalp because of itching and got some hairs in my hand...after that i stopped using it...then on 23rd day I tried the alcohol free minoxidil and got the same side effects and again i scratched it and got some hairs my hand so my doctor advised me to stop it and use only finasteride and multivitamin tablets, so sir my concern is did the minoxidil damaged my grafts??? As I scratched my scalp and my scalp became hard...
Thank you for watching. After one week of procedure even I cannot remove a graft by pulling it out with a tweezer. The root has become one with the scalp and this stage and cannot be removed. So your scratching did no harm. What you have experienced is the natural process of hair shedding between 7-45 days post procedure.
Hi doctor I had a fue transplant for my receding hair line back in July (5 months ago) I started taking finasteride on and off for like the first month and half during my healing process then I kept on the for 2 months now I finished the 3 month course I stopped. Should I take them again? Also similar issue with rogaine I've now been off for a month or so should I get back on it? Not sure if I'm being paranoid and I'm starting to thin on my transplant or not. But if I get back on rogaine will I shed again 😔
If your scalp donor from which grafts are lifted is miniaturising, the transplanted hairs will do the same. You will then have to be on DHT blockers in the long term.
Hie sir , What about the combination of Minoxidil and finestride topical Solution Is It stop hair loss Because i dont want any regrowth, but the hair fall should stop AND the existing hair should be thicker
Hi, I have been on minoxidil for few years now, and have been on 11% for past 2 years. I had a FUE hair transplant 4 months ago and I started using the 11% minoxidil again 2 weeks after the transplant. Is there any potential risk to my transplant because I have been using 11%? What are the dangers of using 11% after a transplant? Thanks
Since skin is very sensitive after hai transplant we start with 2% and after 2-3 weeks if the skin does not react we scale upto 5% Minoxidil. We do not use 10% or above.
Sir, your video is very informative. I have one question sir. Is Minoxidil with finasteride is more beneficial then finasteride taken orally. I am currently using morr f 5% for almost two and half years but my hairs are continuously falling. Do I need to change the product?
#AskDrBhatti Sir is it true that the effectiveness of minoxidil is lost over time? If yes, then pls tell us till how many years it can remain effective. Is delaying hair transplant with the use of minoxidil a good strategy? PS: My age is 26 and I think I'm in grade 3 going towards 4.
Hair transplant is done after the age of 25 unless its just a minor hairline issue. Minoxidil does not have an effect that wanes with time. That is true for Finasteride. If hair loss does not trouble you, yes best is to postpone till your condition stabilises around 28-35 years age.
Hey doc, i used minoxil but i get terrible heart palpitations. i have low blood pressure. not terrible low, i dont use any blood pressure meds or anything but am on a bit lower side. any ideas how i can use it or if there is any other stimulant drug similar to it i can use topically . Thanks
Thanks for your video! If i apply minoxidil once a day..do i apply it after washing my hair in the morning? Or If i choose to apply it at night before going to bed, can I let it absorb overnight and wash my hair in the morning? Will i still get the benefit if it has only been on my hair for 6 to 7 hours compared to all day long? Sorry for the questions!!
It is only needed once at night and has sufficient duration of action for the entire day. Applying more often will cause scaling and dryness which can also cause hair loss due to scratching. Wash it of in the morning. Once a week apply 2% Nizoral if you have dandruff.
Hi, Doctor how far it is true that people with Hypertension are not recommended to use Topical minoxidil ? Also is it true that Procapil based Minoxidil is safe for hypertension people compared to alcohol based Minoxidil? But when i checked both (alcohol based and Procapil based minoxidil) they clearly mentioned a caution for Hypertesion. so which is true? does it mean people with hypertension are not a good canditates to use topical minoxidil at all? If so is there any alternative for such people. thanks in advance.
The problem happens when people apply more than 1 ml in one application, more than once daily and also concentrations more than 5%.10% is commonly available and many people feel that it gives better results when it does not.
Can Minoxidil be applied when Toppik has already been applied on the head? Will applying minoxidil after Toppik make it less likely to be absorbed/ decrease its efficiency?
Darling Buds Clinic can you explain this more? Is there a substance in hair fibers blocking minoxidil? And what about hair wax? Do you need to wash that out as well at night, before applying minoxidil? Great content btw! Keep up the great videos!
