I actually got my copy in the mail yesterday of the new album its amazing best since planet of ice and maybe my favorite of all so far.

They do A LOT of looping and use them all simultaneously to create different effects. Most notable on Pachuca Sunrise, Knights, The Fix, et cetera.

Lol no. He doesn't touch Erin. Go listen to Menos, Highly Refined Pirates, Planet of Ice, etc. That's when the band was good. Now, the new drummer is good, but this isn't Minus The Bear without Erin. The whole band began to start losing its creativity around Omni.

***** losing its creativity? Dayglow Vista Road and Fooled By The Night are probably a couple of their best all time tracks. Not to mention how creative the acoustics 2 album was. I wasn't the biggest fan of Infinity Overhead, but Diamond Lightning and Toska ran back to back are an eargasm, and probably some of their best musicianship ever. Come on Scottie...

Agree. Your opinion totally. I disagree, however. I can't make a claim like that based off of one very terribly written song. Most music leans on the hi hat in general; it is the most-used cymbal in all of music. Basic set-ups always use the hi-hat, especially on the verses of a majority of music. Also, the math rock style of syncopation that MTB uses requires the use of the hi hats. Now, because Minus The Bear is playing "bubble gum pop" bullshit and has been writing shitty music since Omni, it is easy to blame it on Erin. Perhaps its the syncopation that bothers you. And to say that Erin relies exclusively on the hats is false. Plenty of music on the ride cymbal. Drilling is an example. Just because you hear one song with a drummer playing the verses on the snare with ghost notes doesn't make him a better drummer. That is a huge conclusion to make based off of one song in which MTB are way past their prime. This band is nothing without Erin, but the fact is, they have been nothing for the last 5 years. The days of Planet of Ice and Menos El Oso are all gone. R.I.P. Minus The Bear. It seems that now you're all content and focusing the band around Jake's vocals, which are and never were good (his lyrics now are the epitome of bubble gum pop).
