Greetings Marine. Great points. Some thoughts. As I mentioned before, not everyone can do everything, but everyone can do something. You may have like minded people in your neck of the woods that are not suitable for small unit tactical ops. Here's an idea: Identify those who are skilled in medicine, and place emphasis on combat first aid for 'operators'. During both tours in Iraq, I was physically near Medical Battalion 1st FSSG/1ST MLG. If you got there with a heartbeat, they saved you. The trick was keeping them alive that long. You mentioned Combat Lifesaver: 20 percent of 1st MLG in 2006 was at that level. They could tie a tourniquet and run plasma. This meant that Marines were stabilized to survive. Tourniquets are great for limbs, but what about torso hits that are not immediately fatal? Weird answer: Tampons. Sterile, easy to apply to puncture wounds on the torso, and highly effective ar stopping blood loss. Will it repair serious organ damage? Certainly not, but it just might keep you stable enough to survive for more intensive medical care if it's available.
