I have MIPs on my 4s rustler and I didn't degrease them first and only used blue lock-tite and they didn't fall apart at all and trust me I gave them a beating and they held up great so I know for a fact you're safe with them! Keep up the great work kev!
I never de-greased mine when new and I used blue loctite. Never had a problem with them coming apart. Just let them sit for a few hours before you run em. The only problem I've noticed with them is when you tighten on the wheels it squeezed the rear carrier (with spacers installed) causing a slight binding problem. However I've figured out if you put two Teflon washers in where the middle spacer goes it helps to get rid on the binding, not 100% but pretty close. The washers are 5x8x0.5, the same ones that go before the cross pin on the stock plastic axle.
Awesome video man. A word of advice with those shafts is if the inside grub screw come out and get lost just find a normal style threaded pin and use it
Kev, I subscribed caus' I do like your vids + everything to support a grown man being able to stay at home in his pjs' all day and play with RC toys :)
Can't wait till you come out with a monster truck video!! I love your rc videos a lot but it's been a long time since your last monster truck update video
Hi Kevin. Massive fan of your channel and just about to pull the trigger on a slash platinum from model sport. Would you recommend them as my wife has said I can only have one new rc this year so have to make it count lol. I did have 5 new ones last year so I see where she is coming from lol.
You should get an LC RACING 1/14 car. Beastly things and pretty cheap too! I'd love to see you work your magic on it, could be a baby brother for the Hobao lol
Here is a idea Kevin, get the X-Maxx snowmobile conversion kit and see if its worth being interested in cheers! Seems to me its too slow to really be a functional basher setup
Extra weight wont be a bad thing on that, i think it will improve things a tiny bit and be more durable. RCs that are too light are prone to flipping, turning over easily, especially with too much power going through them
I've broken all my axels several times. I just bought integy and broke them with in ten minutes. I was going to get these but because they are so heavy duty I was scared of overheating issues. Anyone have any problems with the rustler 4x4 vlx?
I hated MIP’s on my rustler, they are heavy, and they feel loose and rattle about. Also they don’t work with bushings, so I had to buy bearings on top of the $90 price. I ended up buying $20 integy shafts and I love them
I’ve been running though on my stampede 4x4 for 2 years and they barley warn at all and one tip put heat shrink over the set screws on the diff contention points that’s what I did on mine they work great
Hi Guys i got me some new driveshafts today and they came with some screw on hexes but now i cant Put the wheel nuts on too tight because Then the wheels wont Spin freely. Has anybody a fix for that?( Btw i have a 2wd Rustler)
Just a heads up, you don't want to leave them dry because they will rust like crazy and will emit a horrible grinding noise. I thought the same to leave them dry, but it is better to just grease them, especially in the splines.
I agree, the grease is there for a reason. Metal on metal friction is VERY bad. Although i don't know if you need them on the splines. I have a set of these on my Rustler, didn't put grease on the splines, and it seems fine. the splines don't move a whole lot either so it shouldn't be a big deal if those are dry. Either way there definitely needs to be grease in the joints.
NerfCraft For sure, I have these on a slash 4x4 and because I didn't grease the splines, I got water in them and then the car sat for a week. During that week rust accumulated and actually seized the two parts together. Probably don't have to go super heavy, just enough to cover them.
Oh weird, never heard of greasing the splines. Might have to keep an eye out. Thanks for the tip. I guess if you get them wet you should be maintaining them anyway so they don't rust, but yeah I will have to keep an eye out for that.
Eh, yeah but it would still be better to just grease them properly. Actually just went running my Rustler in some dirt. More of it is actually caught by the differential output next to the tranny box than in the joint on the Driveshafts. Think it's safe to grease it. And really you should be taking them apart to maintain them now and again anyway, because they can get dirty. You do not want to leave them without any maintenance all the time.
TestECull actually the worst he will brake and my friends have is stock arms and shock caps the bigger tires will be a little strange on the Motor but the drivelines are sold they can handle 6s
