Wow i really admit this is all new to me, that the South African Air Force and the there military technical engineers development team, has manage to modify there Mirage F-1 combat aircraft to a far more better variant, thanks for the great patience of those brilliant technicians there wonderful effort has paid off and has resulted into a great achievements, courtesy of innovation and extra hard works. I am so thankful that i am one among who witness this such great effort that resulted into a wonderful success.

This type of truly impressive French built combat aircraft should have also put into a major modifications. Just like the one, that has been put to the U.S built F-16 Falcon and Russian built Mig-29 Fulcrum.
Lol at the easter rand show the army had a show and this plane flew overhead but I wass'nd expecting it. The sound was like a big bang I thaught it was a bomb and went down on my knees. So imbarrasing I will never forget it we live and we learn I wont fall for it again. Still a funny expierence now that I think about it. I was 12😂
I have seen dog fights between this aircraft and migs at cuito cannevale. Unfortunately the mirage were a long way from home so could not stick around. But a hell of a sight seeing the aircraft and the flack trying to bring them down.
Unfortunately the lack of competend A.A.M against the better Russian AAM's was a backdraw. Anyway as for today (2021) the SAAF with the rest of the SANDF is down the drain.

It was definetly the most beautiful fighter ever. And maybe it never was the best fighter in the skies but it was very dangerous especially with a good pilot in the cockpit. Beautiful and dangerous = Fcking SEXY :D
You are right sir the Mirage F-1 is truly one of the beautiful and in fact one of the most impressive combat aircraft that has ever made. And i believe this bird can show a great air supremacy, just like the other type of aircraft of its own generation like F-16A/B/C variants and even the Mig-29 previous variants. Its too bad however because the maker of this aircraft the Dassault Company has never seen the great potentials of this totally superior aerial arsenal.

All went quikly downhill from there. More strikes, more burnig of infrastucture, more stealing. Till today, total corruption.
At the time these jets were procured South Africa was involved in the SWA / Angola bush war which saw the the Cuban forces flying Mig 23 aircraft. There was most definitely a requirement for an aircraft that could counter this threat.
Only 1 Sqd person's will know what L8 and G1 means. Only they know what " vlakvark strike" at night flying means. Only they know the boxing match between Spike Milligan and Hennie Botha. The know the last salute for Maj van Koppenhagen, only they know the smell of the fuel at full throttle during test runs. ONLY THEY KNOW MIR F1 AZ & WE WILL NEVER FORGET HER. Salute
Always thought the 2 seater was the prettiest 2 seat single engined aircraft ever. If I could win the lotto, I'd try to buy one, fix it up to😢 pristine condition, and fly it at airshows and just for.....wholly cow...FUN!!!!!.
