"Mismanagement!" Jeremy Kyle SLAMS Birmingham City Council After Effective Bankruptcy 

Councils are well known for inventing many layers of management. Council officers who manage their budgets so badly should be sacked for gross misconduct of what is Public Funds. They should not receive a pension.

Not just squandering the money, but in all probability, embezzlement.

The Labour Party Birmingham City Council is comprised of 101 councillors. The Labour Party currently has the majority of councillors and runs the council.

Councils are being told to trim there budgets because the government haven’t got the money to bail them out, yet we can afford to pay billions and billions of pounds every year to house, feed, clothe and give pocket money to people from far away lands that don’t speak our language or respect our laws and culture and will never have to work another day in there lives. 😡

Start by removing council tax breaks for multitude of mosques ect

The mismanagement is a crime. We should Not have to pay for their actions.

Welcome to the Labour Party. A brief insight for what’s to come after the next general election. Everyone has conveniently forgotten what a financial shambles the country was in the last time a Labour government was in power. Maybe this will serve as a timely reminder.

Question 1: what was done when the council squandered the first billion. Question 2: what was done when the squandering increased to 2 billion. Questions 3: exactly who allows councils to do this? There has to be accountability. In the case of Birmingham council, the locals know exactly how the money was spent. Political correctness won't allow anyone to object. The fraud squad will have their work cut out.

Time for a change in the law? Council corruption and waste should not be paid for in council tax increases.

That also applies to Westminster if politicians miss manage taxpayers money why should government put pressure on taxpayers to pay more.

Look into their Bank account, see were some money has gone and put the guilty in jail.

The people that run the council should be held accountable, from the directors, senior management and the councillors as it is down to them that the council is in this mess. So they all need to be sacked and prosecuted. Wages at the council should be cut first, ie directors, senior management by at least 50%. Plus all bonuses cancelled. Before the council should be allowed to put up council tax. It shouldn’t be down to the taxpayers to cover the debt or be forced to pay more for basic services that should be provided. The council should be forced to work their way out of the debt they built up. So no pay rises, no members of the council to earn more than £75k including directors and senior management, consultants etc…

Their gold plated pensions and white elephant projects that are never checked. If the councilors have it registered as a PLC they should be personally responsible

Maybe if these councils didn't give millions out to taxi firms to ferry kids to and from school , when millions isn't needed for that job This council needs looking into because they're certainly not spending the money on what they're supposed to be spending it on.

Same in Wigan they’ve just announced massive rises in rent and council tax it’s a disgrace they should all be held accountable

When a business goes bankrupt the company loses, when a council goes bankrupt the locals lose why are the not held accountable

You'd think someone might have noticed the problem a while back - before it got so bad.

The locals here always vote for the same party. The fact it is Labour is less important then the fact it is a one party city. The Muslim population follow their cultural leaders to the ballot box.

I come under Birmingham for our taxes/services. I as well as many, am absolutely disgusted with their incompetence. Why do we have to pay out of our pockets for what they’ve done wrong.

The council directors, management and some other staff are paid to much. That's one reason why they are in debt.

I lived in a fantastically well run town that was moved into Greater Manchester it’s now in a conglomerate of towns without any real democracy. For instance some time ago there were complaints about how run down the town was becoming as its architecture was demolished and replaced by modern boring cold block structures the same as every other town. The problem was not one elected councillor in my town was on the planning committee so no one could be held responsible at any election. Then of course Greater Manchester became a huge expensive to run out of touch bureaucracy. Having said that massive Birmingham has failed spectacularly and maybe should be broken up into smaller easier to manage constituent parts.

Someone from government should be checking the books and if wrongdoing is found the perpetrators should go to jail..

I advocate not giving them a penny more until the entire top tier of managenent are fired. We need accountability and ability. This must be transparent for all to see.

Have you seen the calibre of the members of the council? I wouldn’t let them run the school tuck shop. They’ve squandered money, mismanaged money and given lucrative contracts to family and friends. Thank god I moved away from that dump years ago, very sad as it was a great place to live in the sixties and seventies.

You could see the council were getting desperate when they introduced bus lanes and clean air charging schemes to raise money. Where else have I seen that stunt being pulled I wonder?

Didn't i hear that the council were paying a local taxi firm hundreds of pounds each day to transport a disabled pupil just a few hundred yards to his school? Apparently the annual council spending on local taxi firms is quite phenomenal. I believe there was a suspicion that certain firms were favoured ...

We as Council Tax payers are effectively shareholders in any council. In any normal business if the losses are like this, criminal charges would be investigated. Why is no one being held accountable. Do we have fuckin stupid people at the wheel?

These councils are squirting money away for fun. They have no idea how to budget, spend money on ridiculous projects that have absolutely no public value, using public money as if it were confetti. The officers who signed the documents for all of this money to be spent without any value at all should be named.

Someone got rich out of this. Look at those who could have had their hands on any money, look at their lifestyles and spending.

One of the major reasons is the historic 'unfair pay' for women (mainly cleaner and catering staff) from 10,20,30 years ago that has cost them £750m. Thats, and a £6m per year Taxi Contract....that always went to the same company - one owned by some Pakistanis (i checked at Companies House) , and no-doubt handed to them by their cousins at the Council.

Bins not collected, Streets and Council Buildings in total disrepair, rubbish and grime everywhere, basic facilities crumbling.....but hey...if you want to see a Diversity Officer, get endless Pamphlets about Diversity, proudly exhibit a diverse Council Workforce with few white English then Birmingham is top of the list. Everyone can be equally depressed and skint, homeless, ill and waiting for treatment in the happy knowledge that there is racial harmony. Well at least the diversity figures show harmony anyway !

They should undergo a Criminal Audit. To see how and why it happened. And whether there was corruption (ie) Council contracts for friends and families. Where has the money gone and who has it now??????

The reason in Birmingham the council are going broke, is because Islam areas no one is paying any council house rent or council tax, and spending to much on Mosques.

24 years since I started at the back council. 11 years since I left and it's in that timetable top heavy. Offices full of bosses, assistants, assistant assistants. Not one of them qualified to sweep the paths let alone run an office. I visited my parents Ash plot at yardley cemetery last October (I live in Finland now) and its an utter disgrace. Dead and rotting flowers, grass a mess, paths covered in crap and no visible staff apart from a couple of I can only describe as agency guys blowing leaves off an area that was a mess. If they tread their dead like this what chance have the living got.

You want to know how Birmingham council can go bust, the answer is, it’s a Labour run council, they couldn’t run a piss up in a brewery. Now the people of Birmingham have got to pay for the council’s miss management. Council service’s have got to be cut, job’s have got to axed to pay the money back. But never mind the government can still send millions on foreign aid, give millions to Ukraine and spend millions on the illegal immigrants invading the South coast instead of wiping Birmingham Cities arrears off

We pay council tax in Birmingham for them to waste the money on ostentatious construction projects in the city centre like the central library meanwhile local libraries that local people can walk to in their own areas are being closed. It's a total abuse our money.

You missed asking the obvious and most important question. Regardless of the reasons for the debt, the 20% rise in council tax should legally have been put to a local referendum. Why did this not happen?

I bet Birmingham City council hasn't stopped spending on LGBT+ activism, or taken the opportunity to make redundant the diversity inclusion staff that they should never have hired in the first place. But this is a long going dispute where unions representing school dinner ladies / care workers made out that their skill set equated to Electricians, heating engineers and engineers in general. so the opportunity to sack everyone and employ contractors, but by law from now on I want to see 50% mandated female refuse collectors, preferably by redeploying female management staff.

Where did the money go ....? An arrest should be made ASAP. Those responsible should face the full force of the law, penalties and even imprisonment for their actions 🙄

Devolvement might Not be the answer …. Take Birmingham for example, council taxes are due to increase by 21% over the next two years. Those that can, will simply move away rather than try and pay off the council debts that they didn’t incur. The rates will deter others from moving to the area and house prices will fall. Who then will fill the houses and pay off the council debts? They will be forced to reduce the rates and extend the repayment period. It’s a spiral that could greatly affect people who have invested a lifetime in paying for their homes .. what will they be worth in the future? All because a sub standard manager in the local council office didn’t properly do his job .. where is the accountability when he simply leave the area and goes on to his next job? Central government should be monitoring the council finances and bringing the information to the public in a timely manner, there should be public accountability.

What i don't understand is how a bankrupt company can demand any kind of payment. The councils are on companies house as a company. So if any money is to be paid surely it's paid to the receivers who take control of the company. I'd look for fraud from the councillors. This person got a contract and someone else gets one. But nobody's mentioned the council members are either family of the amazingly lucky companies that get massive contracts. Or have been offered a job or even a brown envelope full of money. Bent as a ten bob note.

"Perhaps residents watching this budget debate for the last 20 minutes will have concluded that the Leader and his cabinet live in a fantasy land. The councilors all should be bought to account,sue all of them, for them for mismanagement, take there're houses off them leave them nothing, they should live with in the budget, totally all there fault, not up to the jobs

My son is a builder he was working on site building new council offices while he was there he saw top of the range kitchens fitted plus toilets were top speck and marble flooring wonder where money went 🤬
