I remember once I had someone ask me for $20-$40 because she needed food for her kids. Then a week later she slipped up and told me that two days before requesting the money she and her daughters had gone to Longhorn…. Needless to say the was the LAST time I gave her cash. The next time I gave her food that she had to cook. She never asked me for money to get food again 😂

My grandmother was born on a farm during the Great Depression. She advocated for home cooked food so hard it felt like blasphemy when she suggested it. She would have me in the kitchen handing her spoons or bowls and let me stir things. By the time I was seven or eight I was able to do it on my own.
