As we speak, I’m in the middle of a generational kitchen fight!! My great aunt put my momma’s turkey in the oven with no seasoning or not my momma’s seasoning and permission. My mom just went back to the store to get a whole other turkey. It’s serious around here y’all!!

My brother has a vegan girlfriend and she came over for Thanksgiving. I asked my husband not to use meat in the vegetables (he did most of the cooking) and he said "she eats what we eat or she brings her own". I made some veggies just for her so she wouldn't feel left out; but, by the end of the day she was eating everything except the ham.

When mom says she's going to watch you cook, just get ready for a marathon of do's and don'ts.

This is too funny. My gma did my mom like this a couple of years back. My mom commented that her dressing was thick when she was trying to mix her ingredients. My gma, without looking at my mom, said did you put chicken broth in it. She hadn't. That's still 💯 one of our funniest holiday moments.

Thanksgiving is the Super Bowl for black moms & grandmas. The Super Bowl ain't the time to be trying brand new plays, stick to what we've been practicing all year.

My mother would always say at holidays as I was busting my butt to feed everyone, “Too bad you don’t have a double oven, I bet you wish you had a double oven right now!” My mom no longer comes over for holidays. And it’s so peaceful without her criticism

One thanksgiving I cooked a huge meal for like 10 people. I start at like five am thinking people were gonna jump in and help. My mom comes in about ten and say “I would help you but my hands are dirty.” She sat in the kitchen, watched me cook that whole meal and saying every once in a while “I sho’ would help you, but my hands are dirty.” Everyone else showed up at 2. They ate. I took a nap.

Who else is waiting for the blooper reel when that wig falls off… I can’t take my eyes off it! 😂

❤️ I love my mother in the kitchen with me! ❤️ We are a great team! We always divide up the dishes when we cook and assist each other. Each person is the lead of the dish they wish to create, it doesn't matter what the dish is. Its all about you cooking what you enjoy, we decide on a menu in advance. Whoever's house we are cooking in does the prep work to make the person showing up feel more at ease. Cooking with my mother is a joy because I cook like her, yet I do add my own touch, which she also appreciates. Some things I stick traditional because I am creole and Cajun. We make gumbo like my grandmother. ❤️❤️❤️

Sadly the old school relatives like this are almost no more. I wish I would’ve listened to my mom every time she tried to show me how to throw down in the kitchen when I was coming up; that wisdom is priceless. Now I’m in my 30s and live off of takeout and turkey sandwiches 🤦🏽‍♀️ A damn shame!
