All 5 finalists were gorgeous.

The rest of the top five had more of the pageant hair than miss sc and miss va. Theirs was more toned down and natural.

She was robbed! I don’t understand why Puerto Rico was chosen over her besides the personality. USA is 10 times more stunning and her stunning face should get her any win in any pageant!

Marisol was a fresh inocent beauty, dhe was so sweet, had beautiful eyes and smile, she did great in the question, she lost her parents when she was a girl, raised by her aunt, she worked as a Secretary to help her aunt and to help and take care of her disable brother. She was a great girl, with a great heart. I saw her in person when she was in her 30 and she was stunning.

@@mildredrivera7845 So was Debbie. I saw her and talked to her. She sent to me several autographed pictures. She was more beautiful than on tv. I don't see why Marisol's personal problems and I can feel for her should make her Miss Universe. The real reason was the pageant officials told the judges not to pick her. Some reporter asked her to compare Miss USA to Miss Universe and she said she thought it wasn't as organized and a lot of girls there didn't know what they were doing. I could have told her that about a number of girls, but her remark comparing the two pageants got the snotty, stuck up pageant officials upset and the judges almost picked her anyway. I saw an article on that years before about her interview with the reporter. I never thought that had anything to do with it, especially since certain of the experts thought she was unbeatable and I also read that in another article by her chaperone that nearly everybody thought she was going to win. She was so breathtakingly beautiful and very amiable. The judges would have picked her if it weren't for that. Now I know she was not allowed to win, Miss Universe just meant less and less to me. She was the second consecutive Miss Virginia to win Miss USA. A few people will always say they were robbed every year. I have to say she was downright cheated and it ruined the image of Miss Universe. A couple of years ago, Miss Spain was a tranny, a transgender, which is really sick and perverted. Mr. Spain was competing in a women's beauty pageant. At least he didn't win. They will say she, but I know better. Their morals have gone straight to hell. Miss America is not even a beauty pageant anymore. No swimsuit or evening gown competition I am so sick of all of this political correctness. Miss America is a misnomer if there ever was one. It doesn't even exist. In 1970, I never knew what happened to Miss USA, Debbie Shelton would have been possible. The times were so different, but were changing. Fifty years later, I can't even recognize a lot of things that have changed for the worse..

@@lilytsui3015 It was an article I saw on the internet years ago. It was a Miami Herald reporter who asked her a few questions comparing Miss USA to Miss Universe. It appeared in the Miami Herald and the Pageant officials must have taken offense by it when she said Miss Universe wasn't as organized and a lot of the girls didn't seem to know what they are doing. The second part I already knew. I could have told them that a few years earlier. At first I didn't think that had anything to do with her losing. Years later, I found out it had everything to do with it. I guess honesty doesn't pay.

Sorry but Marisol Malaret, Miss Puerto Rico was the most beautiful, sweet girl on the pagent that year, I got to see her in person and she was stunning.

@@mildredrivera7845 I wouldn’t use the word “stunning” to describe Puerto Rico. She is cute at best. I like her personality but Miss Universe is a BEAUTY PAGEANT and not a personality contest. USA should’ve won and pageant critics and fans still hold onto that opinion till this day.

You can see my original comment was removed. It must have struck a nerve to the Miss Universe snobbish officials. Her answer to the Miami Herald reporter about the differences between the Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageants cost her the title of Miss Universe 1970.The judges really wanted to choose her but the MU officials told them not to. They were very thin skinned.
