Nothing wrong with staples. Roof is at least 30 years old. If the owners have the money now then replace it. Otherwise tell them to start saving.

The staples worked fine so far, so not a reason to replace. The moss could be carefully removed. Those shingles are not curling. So just the missing granules as the reason to replace?

Why can’t they just make it a more durable material instead of just these granules that fall off so easily? I hate it :(

How old is that roof? It looks bad but you JUST made it worse by roughing off the granules...
