I always use the line “I can neither confirm nor deny details of any operation without the secretary’s approval.” when someone asks me spoilers about a movie 🤣
Great reaction, like always this one is one of my favourites MI movies they keep getting better and better and the airplane stunt that Cruise performed himself, without any stunt double or special effects, had him suspended on the aircraft 5000 feet in the air at times. And to capture this scene, a wind-resistant custom frame for the camera was built and mounted onto the wing of the plane. Another problem was keeping Cruise's eyes open in the presence of hard air. So his eye specialist designed a special lens which could cover the entire eyeball. It took eight takes for the stunt to be filmed! This is the only Mission: Impossible film till date where the main villain is not killed off. Keep up the amazing work. You guys are gonna love the next one its EPIC.
Always a pleasure, thank you for sharing. As forholding his breath: "For the said sequence in Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, the actor actually had to undergo training to be able to hold his breath underwater for six minutes."
34:20 To answer Steven’s question, the current world record for longest breath held is 24 minutes and 37 seconds by professional free diver Budimir Sobat.
Hmmm.....4, 5, 2, 1, 3 for me - may be an unpopular opinion but I found 3 to be the one that seemed out of place with all the personal stuff. That was the component I didn't like about it. 2 for me was a lot of fun. I loved the fight scenes and the bike chases even if the plot was a bit lacking. 1 is more set up - even though they didn't know at the time that there would be a 2, 3, 4 etc - it's more spycraft and was an excellent film - it was also so much different to the others. That Burj climb will always be my favourite. Love the reaction guys. I must go watch your other ones now.
Ah yes, finally! This syndicate story arc is really good, definitely ups the ante, and introduces some really good characters like Ilsa. Of course the stunts just get better and better.
44:00 To answer your question, he did get injured in the next mission impossible (Fallout) and they kept the shot in the film. He broke his ankle and production was shut down for 9 weeks.
The blu rays always have a special features disc that breaks down the makings of the big stunt set pieces. For the breath hold, Cruise spent several weeks training at the tank with free divers, learning how to do 4-5 minute breath holds. At the beginning, he can hold his breath for about 90 seconds (still better than most of us regular folks), but as it goes on, you see him get up to 3 and 4 and eventually 5.
Also Kate Winslet reportedly held her breath for seven minutes and 15 seconds on set for Avatar: The Way of Water. Some of the movie’s scenes were filmed underwater. It’s a remarkable feat; anyone (including professional freedivers) would acknowledge that a breath hold over seven minutes is extremely difficult.
@@julesb1970 let's also remember that here in this context, it would be very physically demanding, on top of being very stressful, that would drop the numbers quite significantly
@@julesb1970 oh don't worry, i know, i just wanted to point that breath holding times change a lot depending on what you are doing and sometimes, 3min is just as impressive as 6 or 7min
I"ve been watching this channel for the last 5 years. If I had just 50 cents for every time Steven said "This is intense!" I could take a Royal Caribbean Cruise for the next 3 years during peak season.
Rogue Nation is fantastic, definitely my favorite in the franchise. Ilsa was such a great addition to this movie. The dynamic between her and Ethan was incredible!
34:40 "I don't want to go down the watery butt-hole." That was probably... one of the best things I've ever heard on this channel. I had to pause and laugh for several minutes. That was so well said. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The thing with Ilsa's intents... I like how the movie keeps you guessing, like Jack Sparrows intents in the first 2 PotC movies... but with Ilsa she was between a rock and a hard place. Her intents were positive, but she also had to survive being used by both sides long enough to bring her intentions to fruition.
Well said. And that's why I prefer Rogue Nation to Dead Reckoning and Fallout. The next two movies dont give Ilsa nearly as much depth or intriguing. She almost becomes one of the girls as opposed to earning THE GIRL role in Ethans life
This is possibly my favourite if for no other reason than Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa who is off the charts awesome! But then I still love the first one and the next one Fallout is amazing too. Basically this is top tier franchise that always delivers.
@@alienanxiety oh the next one I consider to be one of the best action movies of the last 10-15 years. It feels non-stop. The stunts are great and the fight scene pretty early in the movie is fantastic (trying to avoid spoilers)
@@alienanxiety Dead Reckoning is pretty great. I’ve only seen it once, but the stunts are great obviously. It’s a good mix of espionage from MI1 and Rogue Nation and the action of Fallout.
Every time they add a character (this time Rebecca Ferguson ) the series gets better. They do not just add to add but do it for the improvements we all love and Tom feels we deserve. This is a true passion project for him and we all love it! Thank you Mr Cruise. Now you mission is, should you choose to accept, to thank Nikki and Steven for picking this series. This message will NOT self destruct, but rather keep us as part of the Stikker Fam. Whoop!!
15:10 Fun fact: Benji is playing Halo 5 on his computer at work. Rogue Nation released and premiered in July of 2015. Halo 5 officially released in October later that year. So his character most likely got early access to the game using his skills or he somehow managed to make a deal with Microsoft to get his copy of the game and promote it briefly in the movie..
Tom Cruise held his breath for (at most at a time) 6-minutes to film the underwater sequence. He held the record for actors doing such a thing until Kate Winslet beat the record in Avatar: The Way of Water, where she held her breath underwater for 7-minutes.
@@John_Locke_108 wow. Tell us you dont know how mocap works without telling us you dont know how mocap works. Yes, in Avatar 2, actors had to hold their breath underwater for the mocap scenes. Robin Williams was a voice actor in a recording booth, the images were drawings (not even cgi). Learn what's what... so you don't come across as a complete tard.
3 and 5 are still my favorites. Philip Seymour Hoffman remains the best villain in the series and the scenes between him and Tom Cruise remains the best acting of the series.
The vinyl record player in the beginning of the movie pays homage to the original Mission: Impossible TV series back in the 70s. It was featured in the very first episode
Fact you guys: Kate Winslet held her breath for 7 mins and 15 seconds during her training for Avatar 2 beating Toms record which is 6 mins and 30 seconds.
I love Nikki’s idea at the end, regarding whispering, holding your breath, etc. along with the characters in the movie. You should call it… method reacting.
When tom and she get down the building on that rope she was screaming and cursing and when they where on the ground he said to her, welcome to mission 😂 it was the first scene they shoot together
Believe it or not, the world record for breath holding is 24 minutes and 17 seconds held by professional diver Budimir Šobat! Absolutely crazy, but true!
Considering someone already answered your question about the record for holding their breath, a fun fact, Kate Winslet held her breath for 7 minutes and 15 seconds under water for her role in Avatar The Way of Water Also, as for the stunts, Tom Cruise strongly believes in the thrill for the audience of being able to see the actor's face during situations you normally wouldn't
Tom Cruise held his breath for 6 and a half minutes long for the movie back in 2015. He wanted to prove to his cast and crew that it was safe to do. So he proved it. Actors are allowed to hold their breath for 10 - 15 seconds max while filming scenes under water. Years later, Kate Winslet beat out his time with 7 min and 15 seconds while filming Avatar: The Way of Water (2022). This counts as a record-breaker cuz they are actors on-set. I haven't heard of another actor breaking her record on set. It's crazy either way. Mad props to them.
I NEVER am left dissappinted (to date) with the MI movies. Say what ya will about Cruise personally BUT the man can and does make a hell of a movie, he truly is ALL in and the practicality he makes sure are done cs cgi really does make all the difference. And i am SO excited to watch these reactions by you two (well....ALL your reactions honestly lol) you both manage to truly enjoy but still analyze afterwards, and as ive said multiple times....Nikki is absolutely fabulous. The laugh is in infectious 😂😂 and the one liners...... And Steve gets so into the action and the humor but a different "flavor" from Nikki and the two of you are SO perfect for each other.....and for all of us 👍. Looking forward to the next.....no spoilers for ya but the Syndicate isnt done with Ethan yet (and Benji DOES get a mask 😉). Keep it up we are all here for ya 🤠
31:35 Fun fact, that scene was filmed with NO CGI at all. If you look carefully, how they filmed it was impressive. So the man that's helping Simon Pegg put on the mask is Tom Cruise's double, notice how his face isn't in the camera shot. As it rotates, you see Rebecca Ferguson standing and watching. You can see her reflection in the mirror in the movie but that is her double standing back to back behind the wall. The camera then finishes rotating and you see Tom Cruise in the shot. At 31:39 The real actor that plays the agent that Benji impersonates with the mask is sitting there with the real Tom Cruise. So the camera ends up being behind Simon Pegg's shoulder where it looks like Ethan is helping Benji adjust the mask when in the "mirror reflection" the real actor and Tom Cruise are copying what Simon Pegg and Tom's double are doing. A little bit of camera trickery there and voila, a scene that required no CGI in post-production.
I love Nikki,s reactions to the heights scenes. Awesome work. She makes me laugh. Thanks for another great reaction video. Keep up the excellent work. So glad I came across your channel about 5 months ago. Hello from Pa USA 🇺🇸.
He has been hurt doing his own stunts he broke his ankle in the next movie doing a stunt but he got back up and kept running and the next movie he is making he is actually going into space to film it
“Mr. Lane, meet the IMF!” Maybe my favorite part of the movie. They basically gave him the, “ You didn’t know who you was f-ing with, did you?” boss stare!😁
After him doing all these crazy stunts without getting hurt, in the next film when he jumps from a building to another, so not actually that dangerous, he actually did break his ankle doing that stunt, and he actually kept it in the film so watch out for it 😊
Get Bacon like Kevin, cruise like Tom, they the Pitts like Brad and the ish so sad, Christian won't Bale you out, Alicia got the Keys and Wesley wanna Snipe ya, Stay Super Bad and they'll call you Foggle, stay in shape like an Oval. 😉
M-I:5 was topsy-turvy to me. Too much to almost handle. I saw this one in IMAX as well. Directed by Oscar-winning writer of The Usual Suspects (1995), Christopher McQuarrie. He also did 2 earlier films with Cruise:writer/director of Jack Reacher (2012) and writer on Edge of Tomorrow (2014); which are both enjoyable. This newer team with Renner coming back as Brandt, introducing Rebacca Ferguson as Ilsa (Doctor Sleep, Hercules) and Alec Baldwin as the CIA boss was pretty good. Meeting the match of a lifetime with The Syndicate. Sean Harris as the leader, Solomon Lane was geniusly sinister. I was listening to Hunt's message at the end of M:I-4 and knew these were the next bad guys. Couldn't wait to see them go mano a mano. Cruise once again, the consumate performer as he is. The stunts (Air, Underwater, on the road) are quite amazing. As the first of 4 sequels that Mr. McQuarrie would direct, y'all ain't seen nothing yet.
First, with the motorcycle chase, for every take, they basically walked the whole of the road and made sure there was nothing on it, no debris or anything... don't want a wheel to throw a rock, even a pebble, at Tom Cruise at 90 mph. Secondly, Tom was talking to another actor, talked about the Burj building climb, telling the stunt coordinator "This is what I want to do" and they said, "No, there is no way I can let you try that." The other actor asked, "What did you do?" "I found a new stunt coordinator." So, yes, you cannot tell Cruise no about a stunt, just make it as safe as you can.
Don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet but the scene at 31:34 where Benji puts on the mask in the mirror is actually a one-shot filmed using some clever angles, choreography and body doubles, there's no CGI
It's funny, when introducing fictional tech (like stealth screens or crazy hud's) I'm fine with it, but when they dont have access to real-world tech (like oxygen tanks that are made of non-metal materials) I'm like "nah, that's not realistic."
Funny story, in regards to how does Tom Cruise do his stunts. Matt Damon said in an interview/panel discussion that he asked Tom how he does these stunts. And Tom told him that when they conceived of a stunt once, they brought it to their stunt guy (the person who signs off on it), and when they guy said no, Tom fired him went looking for another stunt guy. Matt Damon's response was that when the stunt guy says no, he doesn't do it. From there everyone in the room had a good laugh over it.
Have you guys considered reacting to the movie “Red” with Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Hellen Mirren and Karl Urban? I feel you’d really like it.
4:27-- Don't quote me, I'm completely making this up. SHOPGIRL Looking for anything in particular? ("Is THIS the guy?") ETHAN Something rare. ("I'm an agent.") SHOPGIRL Let me guess. Classical? ("Like the CIA?") ETHAN Jazz. ("Nope. IMF.") SHOPGIRL ("Password 1?") Sax? ETHAN ("Password 1.") Coltrane. SHOPGIRL ("Password 2?") Piano? ETHAN ("Password 2.") Monk. SHOPGIRL Shadow Wilson on bass. ("Password 3?") ETHAN Shadow Wilson plays drums. ("Password 3.") SHOPGIRL Know why they call him Shadow? ("Authenticating...") ETHAN Because he had a light touch. ("Agent Confirmed.")
35:00 "Isn't there a nonmetal way to get him some oxygen?" Yes. A plastic bag filled with air, that is made of thick plastic. Only enough air for one breath. Fit it under his wet suit, and it's enough for one full breath.
Ethan Hunt hung out of the plane once. Tom Cruise did it 8 times. And while yes he did have a harness, he was holding on under his own strength. Apparently this is the only stunt where he was visibly nervous because a mistimed pigeon or pebble would kill him instantly.
for the bike chase scenes it's him on the bike but for close calls in these scenes they add cgi cars to whip buy . So when he's supper close like to a truck or car wizzing by in the opposite direction that car is 99% added with cgi. So yes he does it but they don't make it as dangerous as it looks.
Ironically Tom cruise can hold his breath for six minutes he trained for the movie and ended breaking a record for holding his breath under water at six minutes until Kate Winslet broke his record for Titanic at 7minites 47 seconds
I love how Steven emphasized they were told 500 times that Tom Cruise does his own stunts 😂 I wasn’t one of those 500, but I’m so glad you know now. It makes it more intense. As you can tell from his “What the fk?!” Following that statement 😆
The big flaw in this entry, for me, is the finale doesn't really have much of an action sequence. The sit down at the outdoor cafe, then a quick chase and knife fight between The Bone Doctor and Ilsa, and that's it.
One of the best Mission Impossible gotta put some respect on Tom cruises name 🫡 Great reaction guys & nikki crack me every time with her reaction 😂😂 btw planning on watching Man on fire anytime soon? Cheers 🍻
Best of the MI movies. Hoffman was the best villain in 3, but Lane is close. As great as the action scenes are, the best is when the villain is outsmarted.
