In this video, I compare the two editions of Mission: Red Planet, designed by Bruno Cathala and Bruno Faidutti. One is from Asmodée (before they became huge) in 2005, and the other 2015 from Fantasy Flight (...which is now a part of Asmodée).
Board Gems highlights older board and card games that are still great games today, and deserve to not be forgotten!

Thank you for this video, Darryl! It is a nice surprise and a coincidence. M:RP edition 1 was one of the first hobby games I played. When edition 2 was published, I immediately snagged it for my own collection. I love trying to manipulate and navigate the chaos. I like the changes in the 2nd edition. I think the possibility of acquiring an Action card beefs up the Scientist. I like the countdown, as opposed to the count up. Funny - and I'll be honest - I never noticed the rocket cards showing the closed hatch, and now I love that, too. I agree that the astronauts can be hard to count, but dang, they are cute. The coincidence is that I recently ran a session of M:RP at Dice Tower West in March for 5 players. It was a hoot and I was confident I was going to claim Mars as my own, until I revealed a Discovery card where I had far too many astronauts - it was the dreaded Virus! Bruuuuu-noooooooos! I also recently acquired El Grande (thank you for the encouragement!), though have not played it yet. As I read the rules, I couldn't help but think I want another crack at Mars soon. Enjoy!

Love this game! Chaotic back-stabby area control that plays in under an hour. I also like the steam punk art in the 2nd edition.

Nice! I enjoy playing Mission Red Planet, it’s kind of like an El Grande where there is even less control over where your cubes end up. I agree that it seems the 2nd edition is the better one (6 players would be nice) I can’t really see enough of a reason to upgrade from my old 1st ed
