8:33 Ah, this is still one of my favourite parts of this episode, probably thiss whole series. It practically redefines he relationship between the Doctor and Cara...
The first time I saw this episode- and the episodes to come- it sent me on a roller coaster of emotions. I was crying out of sorrow, the out of happiness, then all the way back again. These Cybermen episodes BROKE me.
I remember reading in some interview with Steven Moffat once where he described that line as the closest the gruff 12th Doctor could ever get to saying "I love you". (Really wish I could find that interview again but, that description really made an impression with me). Great line.
Difference is Rose acted on instinct and accepted the fact it couldn't be changed. Clara's actions were disturbingly calculated, to a borderline psychopathic degree. Not to mention the fact Rose's problem could be fixed. The Doctor wouldn't be able to get his key back.
@@summanus4437 actually, clara's actions weren't calculated at all. this is evident partly because she didn't consider certain logistics, but also because it's clear that she's so overtaken by grief and the guilt of her relationship with danny not really working out, that it's all her emotions driving her to do something she never normally would do. she is desperate to try and start it all again, to not make the mistakes she made, and since he got run over while they were on the phone, she most likely blames the whole event on herself.
@@summanus4437 no they werent. thats something she easily couldve come up with on the fly with her knowledge of the key locations and knowing a volcano would destroy them
@@mattyice9535 a deep platonic love that is impossible to break. To quote Clara "you made yourself essential to me". He has such overwhelming affection for her. She got him through a lot, the least he can do is support her though her darkest hours too
Have to say, Missy became my absolute FAVORITE Master. Knowing the twist on rewatch makes her performance x1000 better too, because you can see the subtle satisfaction on her face as she messes with the Doctor as he's clueless to her identity. And Doctor CHAAAANG kills me 😂
@@KthulhuXxx Agreed. Clara is, also, freshly grieving with all the mental trauma that comes along with that. Rose lost her father a long time ago and, therefore, her rational mind was fully functioning when she made her decision.
@@Gamelover254 I do remember her manipulating the Doctor into travelling back in time so she could save someone she loved just like Clara tried to do but okay.
Robert Smith She didn’t manipulate him. She did it purely on impulse. She originally just wanted to see him and talk to him and be with him as he died. Again she never intended to destroy the Doctor’s entire life like Clara did.
HEY MISSY YOU SO FINE YOU SO FINE YOU BLOW MY MIND HEY MISSY HEY MISSY!!!! Such a great episode. Finally we get to see my favourite incarnation of the master. Cant wait for part 2!!!
About you thinking The Doctor might leave Clara, this, as the coming events would prove, doesn't apply to these 2. Quoting Peter Capaldi's answer to a question about how his Doctor feels towards Clara 'Well, I think the Doctor is very possessive about Clara. I mean he has a very very deep bond with Clara because essentially Clara saved him, saved the being that the Doctor is and that is something that he feels very grateful to her about and you know you always got to remember that the Doctor is not a human being, so his emotional responses to things are expressions of a far deeper and more complex, sort of relationship with the universe.'
When Peter delivered the lines “why? Do you think that I care so little for you that betraying me would make a difference?” He became my second favorite Doctor. In fact it’s so close that it could be a tie between Tennant and Calpaldi as my favorite Doctor.
this point we got the best master, the best doctor, Clara is not bad we got a pretty decent companion. 12th doctor is and was the best thing that ever happened to us.

Oh thank goodness we can finally say Missy is the Master get ready for the fun and crazy ride you are about to go on with this Incarnation personally she is my favourite Michelle Gomez knocks it out of the park
I wasn't onboard with 12 for the longest time, especially since 11 was my absolute favorite. But this scene made me realize that he was the Doctor. Series 9 made me love this incarnation, and series 10 made me love the show again.
first Thing the elenth doctor checked after regenerating was if he was still male, nice Little hint that is is possible for a time Lord to Change gender whle regenerating .^^
They toyed around with making a female Doctor back in the original series, one of the Doctor's co-creators Syndey Newman suggesting making the Doctor female after a regeneration. Of course they decided to not go that direction, but it's nice to think that it was a possibility even back then.
@@lowkee1205 The 5th doctor was originally going to be a woman. The first confirmed In show mention of a timelord swapping sex through regeneration is in the doctors wife.
Had flu past week so so nice to finally catch up on this! Series 8 really was so divisive and such a mixed range of stories... 12 was a controversial incernation of the Doctor, Clara was inconsistent, Danny Pink was a fly in the ointment ... but...MISSY MISSY MISSY brought it all together in a glorious bow! Yes series 8 had Listen, Mummy on the Orient Express and Flatline which were instant classics.... and yes this finale was unhinged and very very downbeat and weird BUT i enjoyed it a lot!
15:19 how in the hell did he not know what villian it was i was like 9 or 10 when i watched this and as soon as the hint happened i knew what that theme was and those emotionless eyes
9:02 this is huge as it shows how Doctor has changed, remember Eccleston (9) when rose saved her dad and his reaction… really interesting to see the parallels.
This was definitely a fantastic episode to see for the first time. I loved the Missy/Master reveal, which thankfully was not spoiled. Fantastic reaction, as always.👍😀😎👏
15:21 you missed the most obvious hint because bad timing you paused at the wrong moment but i think the reveal of the cybermen is so well done you don't really see it coming but it make sense in so many ways (corpses resting in water tanks, exoskeleton in dark water, ...) i really liked the two part. and the reveal of missy
I love how he completely missed the cyberman reveal with the doors sliding together and the cyberman theme and he was so shocked when the doctor finally realized it
Cybermen and St Paul's is a rejig of 1968's '1the Invasion' but I think it takes a back seat to the BIG reveal in this. The consequences of which some people are still feeling.
"Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference" is one of the finest lines of dialogue in anything ever and the moment Capaldi became the Doctor for me. Like you, I struggled with the majority of series 8 although I appreciated every story on it's own merits. Moffat at his finest, that line is.
2:14..your reaction starting at that point...yeah...exactly. Also lmao you said he didn't need to catcha Donna like in Turn Left. hahahahaha so sad and so true. A hard moment in time again for the Doctor's dear companions.
Okay, so it’s been a while since i first saw it, since it was back when it was being broadcast but I remember thinking it was great! Looking forward to what you think of Missy as I adore her!
I knew this episode had something to do with the Cybermen as soon as The Doctor went through the door and it closed to reveal the Cybermen eyes and their theme started playing. I had goosebumps!
One of the interesting things is that the actual reveal is dubbed. Because it's such a public location, people were able to take video of the filming (you can probably find it on here) so on location Michelle Gomez said she was the Rani, a Time Lady adversary from late in the original series.
Someone needs to make an edit where when clara is on the ground crying after throwing away the keys, and 12 just kicks her off the edge and casually opens the tardis doors with a snap of his fingers😂😂
I wish that she actually threw away the keys and then the doctor could click his fingers to get into the Tardis. It would make it much more hard hitting
I don’t recall them explaining why this happened. My head canon has Missy sending the car that kills him. That sets this plot into motion. Otherwise, she might have gone with Pink and had a family including a time traveling grandson.
I've been waiting for this. Back when this first aired, every DW fan group had caught on to "Mistress" episodes ago. It's nice to see a genuine unspoiled reaction to that reveal.
5:50 if I were the doctor I would've taken the key and pushed her in, ”oops sorry I didn't see you there like oops sorry I can't change the past just for you.”
When I first watched this, I was like WHAT THE FUCK CLARA!? But after rewatches, she’s just lost the love of her life. She will do ANYTHING to save him. So while yes she was wrong in doing what she did, I can understand WHY.
