As a first year teacher I really appreciate this video! I would love to hear more about the different classroom management strategies you have tried and ideas for implementing them.
Nice video and I think it’s great you’re doing this. I’ve been teaching 22 years and the only thing I would say is it’s ok to listen to paras when you come in, you just need to do it in a certain way. They do know how the class was run before you and will have some good ideas. It’s ok to accept their ideas to build a good working relationship.
That is very true! I think every para situation is unique. I had some really awesome paras and some that unfortunately took advantage of me asking for help at the beginning. Building strong relationships is so important with your paras though!
I’m trying to accept some of their ideas, as well as implement the help from my mother who’s been a sped teacher since 1996. One of my paras is open minded to changes and the other seems to be stuck in her ways and threatening to quit.
@@yellyukulelly7334she’s going back to subbing because in the district I work in, subs get paid more than paras. Imo the paras should be getting paid way more for what they do!
Excellent advice! I left my special ed job many years ago because of the burn out factor. Your advice is so realistic and practical. I love the idea of a para handbook.
@@tobiasmyers7857 I do not have a sample but I have gotten a lot of request to create one. I have put it on my list and I will let you know when it is done!

Hello, thank you very much for your videos! I learn a lot from you♥️🙏 I have a question! Was there ever a problem you had with a kid with special needs, and how did you solve it?? Also, was there a problem you never solved?🙏
Try bringing real things to the class each day for "show and tell" - before you teach the kids about them with a "Primer," and limit your daily lessons to tell them about high paying jobs, like being a Bank President, and fun related things using reading, writing, listening, speaking and financing Q and A about each one. I know you can't do this because of your School Board Curriculum. I just thought I would suggest it as a hope that will never be realized. 🤣
