In Los Angeles County in the 1950s, ‘60s, and early ‘70s we had Winchell’s Donut House including the location I frequented at the corner of Paramount and Del Amo Boulevards in the city of Lakewood. In my youth I enjoyed inhaling 6 Winchell’s chocolate donuts effortlessly. When I visited my daughter in New Hampshire in 2004 she took me to Dunkin’ Donuts in Boston not for the donuts, but for the coffee, which I preferred over Starbucks. Nowadays I prefer Peet’s over Starbucks.

I worked at the local Mister Donut for just over 3 years, out of high school. I was a baker (the person who made the donuts). Believe it or not, it was quite hard work and not everyone was cut out for it. I was very good at it, and am still proud of how well I was able to do that job. I was also young enough to enjoy nibbling on donuts all day and night without gaining an ounce! Mister Donut and Dunkin' Donuts made their donuts in two very different ways. The MD product was in my opinion, superior. They were lighter and fresher because of the baking process. Good times - thanks for the memories.

I'll add my .2¢ growing up in Baltimore, I always thought Mister Donut was the best, DD never came close, DD was better back when each location actually made donuts on site, whatever DD is nowadays is pure garbage, horrible donuts, Mister Donut had a Butternut donut that was to die for, DD use to sell it, but every location I ever went too just stopped selling it, I guess that's what happens when you stop making fresh donuts on the premises. It's been several years since I've been to a DD, here almost 40 years later, I'm still sad to see Mister Donut go.

There used to be a Mister Donut on Prospect Avenue in Champaign, Illinois, not far from the also long-gone Shakey's Pizza. When my truck driver dad would get back from off the road on Friday nights he'd pick up some doughnuts from "Mr D" so my siblings and I would have them to munch during Saturday morning cartoons. Really miss those days. [ seems like there's a lot of comments here about the narrator's soothing voice and the nostalgic feel of these videos. I've noticed myself with the mellow piano music in the background it's kind of like listening to Mr. Rogers. Of course younger folks watching these clips will most likely be incredulous and skeptical about these times and think it's a trip to the "Neighborhood Of Make Believe" - if they even know what that is ]

Growing up in the Atlanta area in the late 70's/ early 80's there were 3 donut shops operating, Krispy Kreme, Dunkin Donuts, and Mister Doughnut. Mister Dounut however was the only one in my hometown. It happened to be located at the edge of our neighborhood and we could walk there without having to cross a major roadway. Often was the time my friends and I would go there to get a couple of donuts and a glass of milk for breakfast before starting off for a day of kid stuff. By the time finished grammar school it had closed and part of my childhood died. I couldn't say whether they sold the best donuts compared to the other two being it was so long ago now, but it was my favorite donut shop because I experienced my first taste of independence by going there just with my friends. Thanks for sharing this snippets into the past and reviving memories of youth long forgotten.

The formula/format you are settling into - historic companies and stores of yesteryear - could be a big winner, kind of like a historical Company Man. The very first videos were nice but they were just a collection of beautiful photos with no explanation. The last several are far more interesting. our last Mr. Donut was on Colorado Blvd, it was gone before the turn of the century, it was a notorious place for transactions of ill repute, and the cops could always be found there.

There was a Mister Donut in the Westchester shopping center where Zayre, Winn Dixie and Firestone was. It was right next to an International House of Pancakes. It closed and was demolished to build a crappy Mc Donalds which is still there now. I hate donuts but loved the look of the store with its bright neon signs. The word Donut would spell letter by letter.

I like the way you cleaned up "Roach Coach" with industrial food service.

This Mister Donut where I grew up was in Morton Grove, Illinois on Dempster Street. They had a cigarette machine inside, so if you were underage this was where to get it.

Corporate cost cutting, rampant debt, and locations in deteriorating neighborhoods killed off so many chain restaurant brands.

Omg we had a Mr.Donut in Xenia Ohio. The best fresh donuts ever! I uses to love their swivel stools at the counter but unfortunately the F-5 tornado decimated the store in 1974 leaving only the swivel stools intact and the checkered black and white floor tiles. I never even knew it was a chain store until I saw this video! I miss those donuts. Never had the coffee, I was just a child then

Mister Donut isn't just popular in Japan. Even after a slew of closures due to COVID, the company still has nearly 1,000 stores and is the second largest sweets franchise in the country.

In Ottawa Canada, Mister Donut was the hot-spot for street rods and muscle cars. Racing up and down Carling ave. until they water sprayed and the police got there. 1970s were wonderful.

When I was a kid we had one in South Florida and my parents would stop in and get a dozen to bring to my grandparents house. We also had a place called Dipn Doughnuts too. The Mister Doughnut is long gone now this was back in the 70s and 80s🤔
