Mistral Soaring #1 was the first one day contest of the Mistral Soaring winter serie organized by Joël Carlin every year on the fantastic slope of Rognac near Marseille. As usual the decision is taken on the Thursday evening to help the contest on the Saturday or Sunday depending of the forecast. This weekend the forecast was encouraging for the Sunday with a 8 to 9 m/s announced and good temperature for the season. In addition, and exceptionally, it was also a backup qualifier contest for the french F3F team 2022 in order to have 4 results and keep the 3 best result for each pilot.
As we often say in France when weather forecasts are wrong: This is the trainee who probably did them !!!! And it was verified this week end, because we had no wind when we arrived at the slope around 10am and the wind raised painfully to 4 to 6m/s later in the day, before to die around 4pm. As a result, we managed 3 rounds in variable conditions and cancelled 1 round and stop round 4th at the middle. The consequence is that the qualifier was not valid letting the team selection based on the 3 remaining results, without joker.
Despite all this, we had a very nice day at the slope, happy to meet, with plenty of newcomers, which we hope will come back and become addicted as we are !
