So I don't think the plot really matters in movies like these. It's about what they're saying and how it makes you feel. (ok I'm shutting up now)

Nikhil Manhas Actually it's totally not. Frances Ha was way better. I found Kirke super annoying in this one and even Gerwig is a little all over the place (not like she isn't always, but...yeah).

I’m so angry there’s not enough representation!! This cast should have been filed down to the exact proportions of the NYC demographic, regardless of if it fits the story or not!!! I’m so angry. I hate that white people founded this country and built it for 400 years. I hate that America was 90% white until we opened our borders in 1964.

I came into this movie with low expectations since I didn't like it from the trailer, but I found it pretty hilarious and enjoyable, and if you need a reference point, I liked how someone described it as "Frances Ha on adderall" (another movie from the same director, which I happened to dislike since it was so slow).

Fintan Ryan Frances ha is great and mistress America is above average. I like this kind of movies, they are so fluid.

Well said! Exactly what I was thinking! Maybe it's just because everyone seems to think that it's not racism if it's aimed at white people.

It's fine to have an all black cast, and it is shitty that an all black cast movie does not get the same support as an all white cast movie. But that is not at the fault of all "white people".

The thing is, until you stop being bitter and calling any film with white people "a basic ass story about "white people" doing "white people stuff" you won't get anywhere. This film is really great and complexly funny; very Woody Allen. If you just cast off any film without giving it a chance simply due to the ethnicity of it's cast, you're not doing your cause any favours because you just seem juvenile and bitter. For the record, I agree that there is extreme under-representation that should be rectified, but people like you aren't helping that, but instead driving people away from your message with your attitude.
