Mists of Pandaria was for me one of the best works Blizzard did for the game. The soundtrack and visuals in the game were breathtaking. All the places you have seen in these short stories are in the game, crafted into absolute beauty. The morals, the story and the eastern inspiration of this expansion were phenomenal. Also in the game you can do a whole quest line with the one who narrates the video - Lorewalker Cho, he is a guide for the players through the whole expansion and helps you understand the values of the Pandaren and their land.
Shaohao's legend is a beautiful one, but his "real" story ended differently, at the end he saved his people, but his journey made him vulnerable , he never learned to deal with one of the biggest burdens of emperors: Pride his own pride consumed him and he turned into the Sha of Pride after vanishing There is a questline in WoW where you help his ghost
@Zerebrat Eightyseven I believe it was removed. It was something we did in 5.3 prior to the Siege of Orgimmar raid release. And before we could go to the Timeless isle.
I love this story, don't get me wrong. But I much prefer the version that we discovered in game searching out the scrolls scattered across all of Pandaria, that led to rep with the Lorewalkers. The tales of how the Monkey king crafted masks for each negative emotion to draw out the Sha so they could defeat it.
And this is one of the best expansions WoW ever had. Even though many will say otherwise because of the pandaren being lighthearted (and obviously because some people can't stop thinking of kung-fu panda which came out a lot later than the Pandaren race was created), this was an amazing story where the whole continent of Pandaria felt alive :) Thanks for this reaction!
MoP was one of the best expansions for me, I know some people were turned off by having pandas in a world where you have powerful characters that wage war, wield powerful magics and such. For some it felt Disney-like Kung Fu Panda...despite the fact that Kung Fu Panda came out AFTER Blizz had released this content. I think for a lot of people they were turned off by the philosophical nature of the expansion, they just wanted to go kill something in game. For me, it was a testament to Blizz's creativity. The Pandaren were just a single joke character in the Warcraft RTS and they took that one character and built an amazing backstory and theme to it. The other expansions they have done have had their moments but lets be honest they were just rehashed stories from Warcraft and that was an appeal for a lot of people who played those RTS games, they saw those expansions as an extension of the story, an evolution of it. So I can imagine an expansion like this one probably felt out of place and "not warcraft" but I never played those games so from a non-biased point of view I would say it was a great work of creativity and they weaved them into the existing world and story quite well. The music was some of the best I had heard and was what brought me back to the game after leaving during Cata. Burdans of Shaohao was their first attempt at this artsyle shorts which would later come out with Lords of War, Harbinger, Warbringer, Afterlives, and Legacies but none of them to me ever measured up to Burdans.
The lore of Pandaria was amazing. If you want to find out about what happened in that expansion, I highly recommend you watch the patch 5.2 and 5.4 trailers for wow.
