MITCHELL FALLS - The Worst Road We Have Hit So Far!

We leave the beautiful Pentecost River free camp and head further down the Gibb River Road to Mitchell Falls.
When people say the road into the falls is terrible, they are not lying!
Unfortunately, our back windscreen gets smashed, but that is all forgotten when we see the stunning Mitchell Falls.

What a great video again. We did the Gibb on our lap in 2021 but Mitchell Falls was closed bugger. The flight you went on bought back some great memories and a tear in my eyes of some of our helicopter flights after loosing my wife in 2022. It is amazing how many people will stop and ask if you need a hand if your on the side of the road. We also helped out a family by following them back to Alice Springs about 180km but it was all good. Love your videos and you have a great family.

Oh we are so sorry to hear about the loss of your wife. Sounds like you had some amazing times together and no doubt many great memories ❤️ Yes definitely need to help out your fellow travellers if they are stuck on the side of the road, especially given how remote some places in Australia can be. Oh thank you, so glad you are enjoying them. We appreciate your support, thank you!

So how was the walk in? Was it easier do you think than if you’d flown in and walked out? Always a bit sceptical when pilots advise one way - especially when they need to ensure they have a paying load both ways!!

It wasn't to bad and to be honest I do feel it was more down hill on the way there so I think there we right 😊 but yes you could be right they could have just been trying to fill seats but we didn't get that impression that's what they were doing 😁

About fuel prices, and everyone saying how bad they are in 2023 around Australia. I would like for some people to think about the what they were paying for fuel in the late 90's. Me, I was only about 140km away from the closet city, and we were paying between $2.40-$2.90. And yes, Australia. 25 years ago I was paying what people now are paying. To me, fuel is still cheaper than a crab infested, toothless, methed up s#x worker with 13 kids. Apologies for that comparison on a family channel. Glad Miranda is back with the family.

We made enclosures for Asbestos Abatement using duct tape, tarpaulin and clear plastic materials. We used spray contact cement from aerosol cans to stick the tape and tarpaulin material for airtight enclosures. Might work for future busted windows.

Love your down to earth approach. You have a great family there - only wish I could have persuaded my American wife and kids to take on something like that when I took them to my homeland in 2011. Sadly, I'm about the only one in the whole family that loves the great outdoors - about the only streak of adventure my kids have is going on the Safari ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom - we live in Orlando.

Thanks mate! The Robbo has handled everything we have thrown at it great! Since owning the camper, we have done about 30,000 kms in it, nothing major has gone wrong and we have taken it down some questionable tracks 😂 We did get some dust in the cabinets through the service access points but some silicone fixed that up. We also once had some come in around the door, but it was nothing major. Good luck with your decision making, personally we love ours!

Totally agree about the Mitchell Falls road - we left our camper trailer at King Edward river and went in the HiLux the rest of the way, turned out to be a good move and reduced the damage bill! That cap rock in the road is nasty stuff, we passed a couple of vehicles that had done serious damage on it. I've now driven the whole GRR, Tanami track, Central Australia, Channel country and Cape York and without doubt this road is the WORST I've encountered. Enjoying sharing your trip!
@RoaminintheRobbo
@RoaminintheRobbo 11 месяцев назад
It's bad isn't it! The shadows on the road from the trees doesn't help either it makes it hard to see the rock till you are right on it. Sounds like we got off lightly with just the windscreen damaged. Definitely the worst road we have ever been on and can see why so many people do what you did and leave the camper at Kind Edward. Thanks for watching mate we appreciate your support 🍻

Should have left window intact. We broke ours just out of Carnegie Station homestead. Black cloth tape it up inside and out. Did the Gunbarrel, Gary Junction into Alice then onto Darwin where we replaced the broken glass with corflue. Came home via the Duncan, onto Tanami, down the Boreline Rd to home. Mitchell Falls awesome, awesome place. Definitely worth the walk in or out and the helicopter ride. Don’t miss it folks. That dawn chorus just beautiful. Watching that chopper ride, time for a return visit to Mitchell Falls I think.
@RoaminintheRobbo
@RoaminintheRobbo 11 месяцев назад
I know we debated what to do, but everytime someone shut a door it cracked away further so we we if we left it we would end up with a big mess of glass in the back of the car. You did well to make it all that way with yours being held by the tape, well done! Isn't it just a spectacular place, that helicopter ride is certainly something now of us will forget. The Kimberley area is certainly special 🧡 thanks for watching Leonie 😁

We were there in about '95. There was one helicopter and a field of 44 gallon drums and no office or anything so civilised. The copter was booked out for the day to ferry a film crew to the falls. They had flown up from Melbourne to an air strip about 10km up the road. We were told that they were there to film footage for a Pajero TV advert. We watched the whole goings on from the vantage point you were at opposite the falls at 30:19. The copter landed them (carefully!) on the small platform just above the big final drop, next to the big pool on that level. It took several trips to deposit 8 blokes there. Only one bloke actually did any filming work and the rest swam in the pool. I guess Mitsubishi had a generous advertising budget! That may be one of the reasons why vehicles cost so much...

Hi guys, good to see you healthy and in good spirit I think the stone caused that , its happened to me as well on the way from Pannawonica to Millstream last year also towing MDC camper trailer ,we just hear the bang and the rear window shattered into a milion pieces ,we still drove 37 km to the camp,so everything inside was red including as. we used empty beer cartons and heavy duty tape to secure the back door,than we have to cut our trip short and come back to Perth. Lucky you that yours glass did not shattered like in my Everest. anyway good luck, and Im waiting for next episode .

Hey mate oh that sounds like a nightmare, I can just imagine how much red dust must have been through the car!!! I think the tinting on the back window was our saving grace in stopping the glass from going everywhere like yours did. Not fun having to deal with it in a remote location is it?! Cheers for watching and your support, we really appreciate it! 🍻
