Mitochondrial diseases are a group of disorders caused by genetic mutations. In this animation, Nature Video finds out how these diseases arise, and how new techniques can stop them being passed on from mother to child.
To learn more about mitochondrial diseases, check out the Primer: www.nature.com/...

Please consider making a video on Hemophilia. A tip to infographic video makers, when you use big jargon words please write it down for those who might want to research it further.

The illustration is this video is compelling and easily comprehensible. Just an error I noticed, mtDNA codes for 13 subunits of the electron transport chain and oxidative phosphorylation while the nDNA codes for almost 1500 of the other mitochondrial proteins (other subunits of ETC and OP included)

although most of this video is spot on, the information about the coding origin for mitochondrial proteins is absolutely INCORRECT. You said the NUCLEUS only codes for 13 proteins that function in mitochondrial function. YOU'VE GOT IT BACKWARDS! the mitochondrial DNA codes for 13 proteins in mitochondrial function while the NUCLEUS codes for the rest. PEOPLE DO YOUR RESEARCH!
@camos2936
@camos2936 7 лет назад
Listen to it again... they say "The cell's nuclear DNA contains all but 13 proteins for the mitochondria. The rest are coded by the mitochondria themselves." It's not the best wording because someone might not listen carefully enough but it's absolutely correct.

Wont embryo screening a better approach than a tri-parent baby (because all maternal mitochondria are not defective)? Another approach is to take advantage of mitochondria in sperms.

'It may be a controversial approach...' well if you keep telling people that it is 'controverisal' then they might feel that way, but there is no reason to take these silly people seriously. At some point you just gotta ignore the anti-science people who oppose everything from stem cells to vaccines to mitochondrial donations to GMO etc.

@melonmelon8572
@melonmelon8572 6 лет назад
Aida Kazimova I’m going through testing to see if I have a mitochondrial disease and from my understanding it depends on your dna. Don’t quote me but I think there’s a certain gene a mother can carry that makes it either a 100% chance or not. So if you don’t have that gene you could potentially have a healthy baby. Does that make sense? This is a new concept to me. Still waiting on my genetic testing to come back so I’m not diving too deep into research until I know if I have itz

DNA is a code And it has a [starting coding and a ending coding] MTDNA its [starting coding and ending is different] As it is [DNA its a different code all together as it makes up the electron transfer chain As the males MTDNA is in the tail of the sperm it than falls off upon entry as it uses up its energy to move iteself into the egg so what one is left with is only the Females MTDNA for that kind to use XX and XY Michael

Another alteration of the organism produced by the introduction into the diet of foods for which we are not enough evolved. Like gluten. The consumption of proteins for which we are not evolved is very dangerous. Some gluten peptides pass to the blood when the intestine is damaged and disrupts the normal functioning of the body. Remeber , Amino acid combinations are like 0 and 1 on computers. If some people follow a diet without gluten, dairy or processed foods, they heal without medicines. Better a paleo diet. This takes between 6 and 24 months. Gluten + mitochondrial. DO YOUR RESEARCH! . research in celiac forums. .www.celiac.com Diets do not make money to pharmaceutical companies and doctors are sellers of pharmaceuticals.

@@humanbean8590 It is true I could never fully empathize with a woman mitochondrial disease. However try to apply your logic to every circumstance ... It is terribly faulty logic. A judge would hardly be able to judge anything. Of course I have a right to an opinion. I do desire for everyone to be healthy but not necessarily at any cost. I guess we will see how the science goes.
@RealEstateInsider247
@RealEstateInsider247 2 года назад
@@gmdrandom6287 I hold the opinion that we venture onto dangerous grounds when we attempt to play God. So what are the other options to alter DNA expression? IMO, western medicine should put more effort into helping people achieve favorable DNA expression through things like nutrition, exercise, and stress management; that is to say a more natural approach to health rather than a never ending supply of patented medicine. And no one would know if the baby is actually helped for many years. When we start tinkering with designing babies, you just don't know if a life would be destroying instead.
