- Thanks for the cabin tour! Personal details like your sightline relative to window height etc. really give a sense of dimension and overall feel/usability of the rig as opposed to just plain stats. - Wouldn't have thought the truck would have been able to pull a 360 in that street in one go! Impressive. - Question: What is your top (safe) highway cruising speed with this rig? Not sure if you have put it thru that yet, but how does it do in moderate-to-heavy crosswinds?

Thanks for watching, Matias, I think that honesty with the flaws of the vehicle and build helps other builder/travellers to make their best choices. Cheers Simon

Hello ! I'm looking at the Fuso since two years. You touch great details in your video. Thank you. You haven't answered concerns about noise. Did it get special insulation by the rig transformer ?

Hi. Great in-depth videos! I'm interested in the recovery loops at the front bumper - did they come with the truck or did you add them later?👍
@simonjourneyman
@simonjourneyman 6 месяцев назад
Hi, thanks for watching :-) No, I added the recovery loops later. They are not standard, but more lightweight than a heavy winch. The only drawback is that in an eventual crash you definitely impact an object harder than with just the bumper. So I often detach them when doing long journeys. cheers and safe travels Simon

Greetings, I love the video. I was wondering what is the make/model of your cab extension, that raises the roof height? Did you install it yourself, or did you have to take it to a shop? THanks.

Thanks for watching and commenting, mauionamission, yes the roof extension works perfectly, it's the German Expedition Vehicle Builder that came up with the idea. check it out on: www.woelcke.de Safe travels, Cheers Simon

Thx for this nice Impression. Question: when you make the Turn around there was in the second view some additional Noise during you take the Circle. At the end of the Circle the Noise was gone. Ist Sounds like Bab bab bab … Comes this from 4x4 Drive gear differential ?
@simonjourneyman
@simonjourneyman Месяц назад
Hi there, yes, there ist this noise when I take really sharp turns. It comes from the plastic sheet hanging very close behind the front wheels, preventing the rain from gushing out to the sides when driving in rain. Thanks for watching and safe travels! Simon

What is it like after a 4 hour highway, or backroad drive? Tired, jangled? How harsh is the ride. Noise, vibration. etc. How is milage fuel efficiency? Does this rig use DEF? Can you keep freeway speeds wihout irritating faster passenger cars? Enough leg room and rear back tilt? How reliable is the mechanics? How much to match build? What is the Euro equivalent day rate at campground in Zurich? Please, Keep listing comparison prices on your global trot. Like the" vibe" of your program.
@simonjourneyman
@simonjourneyman Год назад
The Fuso almost drives like a smaller Mercedes van. Altough I have to admit that the seats are not perfect. A friend of mine had them modified in leather by an upholstery firm. Looked and felt great. The fuel consumption is between 14 and 17 liters/100km, which is ok. And yes, I use DEF / AdBlue in Europe. The leg room is great (left leg fully stretched) and the mechanical service by Mercedes truck dealers great so far. (watch my other video) And the daily campground rate in Zurich is 30 Swiss Franks / day in winter, almost double of that in Summer. Cheers Simon

Added Question. How heavy is the unit? Why did you choose this over competing German overlander rigs? Is the cab extra noise and temperature insulated?
@simonjourneyman
@simonjourneyman Год назад
Hi Tinker, thanks for reaching out, my unit is 7 tons and I can't think of a better solution for my travel purpose. Used to drive a much heavier MAN two years ago, simply too big for me.
@MarcelBrouillet
@MarcelBrouillet Год назад
@@simonjourneyman Helio. Great to know. I'm hesitating with a TGM13.290, and the eye level of the driver was one of my considerations against the Fuso. Weight and width work in favor of the Fuso. Apparently, you're happy with the trade off, and that's so valuable to know.
@simonjourneyman
@simonjourneyman Год назад
@@MarcelBrouillet hello, thanks for watching and your comments / concerns. Before my Fuso, I drove a MAN TGL for one year. I turned out to be too big and clumsy for me, specially on the narrow roads in Norway up to the North Cap. I sold it in favour of my new Fuso. I think a lot of expedition travellers buy a big rig first and then become aware that a smaller vehicle is much more practical on a daily basis. Less fuel, better accessibility in small villages and on narrow paths through the woods etc. The eye level was one of my main concerns as well, but it turned out to be just a small detail that doesn't really reduce the pleasure of driving my new vehicle. The company who converted the truck, insulated the driver cabin with a lot of fabric (roof, Storage space etc) so the noise level is perfectly ok. I will have to upgrade the driver seat however one of these days, it is not really high quality, if you compare it with the MAN air-cushioned seats. Overall the Fuso handles very much like a Mercedes van, however with less comfort (noise, travel speed etc) but offers a great wheelbase for off road trips. And yes, this is the 3.40 wheelbase. Maybe it would be best to test-drive a Fuso, so you can decide if you want to go with that solution. Cheers and safe travels Simon

Hello @@simonjourneyman . One year later, are you still pleased with your Fuso ? No major technical issue ? Thanks. I'm getting closer to making the big jump.

Hi, After watching several more videos about Fuso I have a question. I am 6'2" with a long torso and like to seat up straight. I saw some people who have to bent to take their head out the window and when driving against the sun the fold down visor totaly blocks their ability to see the upper part of the horizon (or street stop lights, which in the US are very high above the street). Wonder what is your perspective on this ? Tnx.
@simonjourneyman
@simonjourneyman 9 месяцев назад
Hello, yes, the hight of the sine and front windows is pretty much the only thing I don't like about the Fuso. I even mentioned it in one of my videos. I am 6'.2" myself and actually thought about cutting the visor in half to solve that problem and it should not be too complicated. I normally tilt the visor towards me, so the eyeline to the the horizon or traffic lights becomes higher. This was also one of the things that almost prevented me to buy a Fuso, but in daily use, it is actually not as bad as I thought, in fact after 2 years of living and travelling full time in my Fuso, I almost forgot about that issue. In France I met a guy who completely changed his seats and visor and resolved the problem that way. Maybe I am going to do the same thing at some point. Good luck to you, whatever vehicle you chose in the end, I am extremely happy with my expedition vehicle. Cheers and safe travels Simon

Is it possible to transfer living box from FUSO chassis to another truck (let's say Mercedec or Volvo)?
@simonjourneyman

yes, that is absolutely possible. The company builds the same/similar box on IVECO or Mercedes trucks. (www.woelcke.de)

Hello, did you import this vehicle into Switzerland yourself? If so, is it complicated and expensive?
@simonjourneyman
@simonjourneyman 5 месяцев назад
Hello Patrick, yes I imported it with the assistance of the manufacturer. Customs etc are no problem, but to get it to pass the vehicle inspection is rather difficult (EU specifications are not CH specifications) That's why there are only a total of 3 vehicles of that kind and build in Switzerland. God luck and safe travels Simon
