This is what it looks like when the dieselpump is defective, rust in the fule tank is the killer.

Tank delamination causes the metallic paint in the fuel tank to get into the injector pump and congeal within the electromagnet throttle inside the top of injector pump, this can draw up errors 48 and 25. The only way to solve this is to replace the tank or dip it in an ultrasonic cleaner and remove all delamination. The pump itself will need checking, cleaning completely and possibly replacing the electronic throttle control. You can check for delamination by emptyng your fuel filter into a clear glass and you will see the metallic particles floating inside it.

Is the injection pump serviceable at that stage?
@huckfinn8444
@huckfinn8444 Год назад
@@andrewabogado I have personally rebuilt one with this problem but the electronic actuator on top of the pump would need to be replaced in most circumstances and the pump itself would need to be stripped and cleaned but I would imagine it would be serviceable. These usually have to be calibrated by Bosch but I have had success without doing this.

@ Huck Finn, you seem to be very knowledgeable. Is there an elaborate checklist for buying a used Pajero 3.2 diesel? How does one check for serious, therefore expensive to repair, problems before buying? Appreciate any tips. Thank you.

@@andrewabogado Rebuilt my electronic actuator today after it was acting weird and rev hanging... I simply disassembled the governor by first cutting all the spot welded connections then using a 7mm and 6mm socket. The aim is to clean it spotless and remove every bit of shaving there is in the pump, for this i used a combination of degreaser and then clean diesel. I soldered everything after. I added a small magnet to the filter basket in the shut off solenoid(to do this I had to permanently remove the plunger from the solenoid). I am also planning to add magnets to a little filter contraption I am assembling for the fuel feed line. All the material that I removed was ferrous and it caused the ge actuator to act weird and throw off the resistance for the coil in the induction motor. I will update as I go along.

Sorry I know that my reply is too late but I know very well these sympthoms. I confirm that 90% of the VRZ pump malfunctions are due to the GE failure (Governor Electric). The part mounted on top of the pump. In this video your engine starts quick as usual, I am 100% sure that the mechanical components of your pump still in a good health. So, you have an electrical problem and error code 48 confirms that. Two things are causing the Electric Governor to fail: first the metal filings coming from the fuel tank and this is the main source of almost all the VRZ pump problems (mechanical & electric)!!! These extremely thin metal filings accumulates around the electric coil of the actuator inside the GE (since it creates a magnetic field) and this makes sometimes a short circuit. Second inside the GE there is a fuel temprature sensor that fails and it causes the same symptoms as in this video. Unfortunately, this sensor is not available and is not sold separately but BOSCH provides a full GE assembly which is much much cheaper than buying a whole fuel pump (arround 300 Euro approx.) Please don't discard anymore your VRZ fuel pumps since a simple cleaning and/or an electic component replacement will solve the problem. In your particular case I guarantee that your fuel pump will work again as new just by replacing the GE. I can provide you the part number if you need. On the other hand if you get a fuel pump failure at the mechanical components level you will get only an engine malfunctions problem and you will never get a "check-engine" light ON !! An advice for all Gen 3 owners: I confirm that 99% of the VRZ fuel pump failures are because of the metal filings coming from the fuel reservoir. An internal enamelling that has a tendency to desintegrates (because of a lack of resistance to additives such-as injector cleaners I presume) and will be sucked by the fuel line toward the fuel pump and none of the fuel filters can stops 100% of these metal filings!! So, I highly recommend the replacement of the fuel tank (if you find any metal powder inside your filter) with one from the latest Gen 3 models (2006 MY) or better a Gen 4 reservoir with some modifications at the pipes level. the Gen 3 pipes has a wider section. Just for your reference I replaced the GE of my injection pump and the fuel tank on my 2002 Pajero 3.2DID since 2012 and my fuel pump still performs as new up today. I adviced my freinds to do the same and none of them get a pump failure afterward. Still at your disposal if any repair instructions are needed.

@@nicknick3136 exactly I did the same on my 3rd gen 4m41 3.2 DID about 8 years ago and haven't had a problem on the pump since changing to a manual/ mechanical 4m40 pump (from an older 2nd gen Pajero). I have had problems with the excessive blow by from the crankcase into the EGR then into the intake manifold leading to a persistant oil leak from the throttle valve, bad idling and blue-ish smoke from the exhaust. Now thinking about blanking or completely removing the EGR. Have you any experience with blanking the EGR? If you did what were the effects on power, exhaust smoke, does the vehicle overheat since the EGR intercooler is removed or it has no effect at all. Also I read something about repositioning the PCV valve when you blank which I dont fully understand as I thought these 4m41 non common rail engines dont have PCV valves??? Your input would really help.

How did you manage the rev counter? i maked a electronic interface to adapt..
@wilhelmhesse1348
@wilhelmhesse1348 5 лет назад
@@nicknick3136 OK thanks for the info there, but what about the general car performance without the EGR is there lower power, overheating or its just better, the reason I want to remove mine is the excessive blow-by (oil and other stuff) from the crankcase entering the system and a persistent leak from the throttle valve. For the accelerator cable we just improvised with one from an auto shop. So it goes from down the accelerator pedal right up over the top of the tapet/rocker cover straight to the throttle body. For the rev counter we didn't do anything so as it is the car's rev counter doesn't work. How did you modify the electronics for your rev counter to work with a mechanical pump?

Replace the fuel filter, empty the fuel tank, put in clean fuel, check fuses (yes fuses too) all air, fuel and EGR sensors, have the injector solenoids cleaned, if that doesn't work, ask a good mechanic to check the injector pump timing and engine timing as these cars sometimes go off on the timing when under alot of pressure which causes alot of problems, makes you run around trying to fault find. If that doesn't work then have a good mechanic compare the timing with the manufacturers specifications which are found in the manufacturers manual or can be downloaded online. Now if that doesn't work then remove the injector pump and take it for service if possible to a trusted diesel pump service center. It might be a problem with the Head and Rotor, not too sure about servicing electric pumps but if yours is a mechanical pump it shouldn't be a problem. If it's an electric pump and your diesel pump service centre can't fix it, you either have the option of buying another electric pump which if new is more expensive than your second hand car, if second hand is probably a quarter of the price of your car or you simply get a much cheaper manual pump which will need an experienced mechanic who has done a modification for 4m41 engines to be able to use an older manual pump which in most cases is a 4m40 pump. Your mechanic will also have to spill time the vehicle once the pump is fitted or you'll spend a very, very long time trying to start the engine. Hope that helps.
