An Evolution 3 with a SUV body on top... yup, mental concept so let's explore a little!
This one isn't stock with a 2.3 stroker amongst many other things.
PS: I did film an in-depth modification walkthrough but it well... well... I didn't hit record. Ha.

Grateful that this video exists. "People Mover" with just four seatbelts? It's a tall hatchback, regardless of how the door works. Also, try zooming out or holding the camera further away for the interior so there's reference points in frame to get a sense of what the interior looks like as a whole.

There's even a targa roofed version of the RVR. You can tell this was built in the Japanese bubble period.

My mom had a 1986 Plymouth Colt Vista (build by Mitsubishi for the Chrysler Corporation) and drove it daily until 2001. Amazing to think Mitsubishi had a serious performance version of that family people mover.

Been a DSM fan for years now and even an owner. Love anything 4G63 tho and know the Colt, Mirage, Summit, swaps ect. Never heard of this one and im in love

Was at Whiteman park two weekends ago for the motor museum. Roads are oddly windy in and out....but I wasn't complaining :)

I'm still yet to go! Really need to make time and get down there. And yeh, roads are certainly nice, very nice! Shame with the speed limit and pedestrians you'd never ever be able to enjoy them properly ha.

Neil Birkby which car? This will go up to 600hp with a bigger turbo. Currently 348hp/420Nm@16psi on a td05-16G

Could be a while at the rate I'm doing joydrive episodes haha. But by then, hopefully, I'll be able to afford to do something awesome for everyone that's supported me up until that point! Thinking huge warehouse, big drive, huge bbq, legal burnouts, meet and greet if anyone cares to meet me by that point haha - many ideas!

joydrive £3.5k with tasty mods with evo 9 turbo mapped to 320bhp , was interested in the Evos but this is way cheaper and such a sleeper ! so tempted!

Thanks for getting the word out Simon on these now somewhat rare models of the RvR. I am trying to attend as many local meets and greets as possible since getting this car, it turns heads everywhere because of how strange it looks but still packs a punch. Thanks to @steveseow for keeping the car in great condition and mods. I've got one of these. My sliding door closes 99% of the way. An electric motor then pulls it completly closed but it then pushes it back out to 99% closed again. Just enough to let rain drip in. Any ideas. Also recently it has started only opening half way. There is a spring loaded shaft that comes out and stops the door in its bottom track. I can push it back in with a finger to open the door all the way. Any viewers had one of these and fixed either of these issues. Thanks.

Mine isn’t electric sliding door so hard to say but I would suspect it’s a motor issue which needs its limits reset

That's an aftermarket accessory. They were never electrified from the factory. How do I know? I've owned a RVR Hyper Sports Gear R for over 16 years

Thanks for commenting Dree, its not using an evoIII ecu. An AEM ecu is installed to take care of all it needs.

Hey, I recently saw one of these for sale in my country and I am very interested on the car. It looks just great and its adequate for a jdm enthusiast. But my question for the owner is, is it reliable as a daily driver?

Hi Matias, definitely reliable as a daily especially with the built motor. Its not running the 600hp its built for, so its a capable daily. Previous owner has daily driven it, I use it on the weekends mainly. My previous RVR hsg had over 200,000km and is still running.

Interestingly in Malaysia they have the two and 4 door versions of the rvr and modify them to look like the HSG versions.

It's stock, so from a wrecker, might be able to find some aftermarket OE replacement but given the rarity of car maybe difficult 😥

Should be able to import ones from Japan, that's where this one is from, just depends on your 25 year rule

It's actually called a Hyper Gear R. The Sports Gear is a different model with less EVO genes and a top mount intercooler instead of this model's front mount. And it has way more than 280ps since it was modded. Thanks for representing Perth cars though!..

There’s a few up for sale Kevin, depending there your located. One in Perth WA right now (black with good mods), couple others around Australia come up for sale too. I’m not planning on letting this one go anytime soon - too much fun so you may be waiting a while 😜

thanks for your comment Luke. Handling wise - its respectable. Its not a sports car because of its height but its not a boat either. Future mods include coilovers.

@@joydrive Mines only a GL, but is white with matching 5-spoke factory alloys & I managed to buy the last white soft-top from the guy that was making them to the factory-pattern in quality material! The top cost me $100 more than the $1500 paid for the vehicle due to it blowing smoke from what turned out to be a broken rocker! Currently replacing timing-belt, water-pump, & seals, etc., along with a new turbo purchased before the Aussie dollar began sliding in value!

My uncle had one of these when i was like 10. He did some stuff to it i think he upped the boost but holy fuck these things ripped for what they were. this was in a time before fast SUV's were a thing (early 2000s) this thing put you back in the seat sadly it got stolen and set on fire
