Fishing at Pykes Creek Reservoir near Ballan turned out to be very productive. I landed a mixed bag of redfin, roach, carp and some nice trout.
All morning the fish were located a long way out from the bank and required casts of 50 meters or so to get amongst them.
Worms and corn were the best baits and the action was pretty hot. I missed a lot of bites and went through a lot of bait. In particular the redfin were stealing a lot or my worms and it took quite a while just to land the one small reddie.
The other thing that made a big difference was berley. This really stimulated the bites and combined with good fresh bait we got a lot of action.
Unfortunately my camera malfunctioned at times otherwise I would have good film of a lot more fish in particular one of the trout that jumped out of the water like a marlin when it was hooked.
