What a gorgeous place for a fish. Nice session with the Trout, well done!!!

Thanks Larry, it's one of the less popular spots around town but it's got plenty of room for fishos. Doesn't hurt the fact that the scenery is grouse and there's trophy trout in there!

Many years ago I caught my PB brown at Pykes. 7lb 3oz. There’s some good fish in there

That's a beast mate! It's definitely a place that doesn't get enough credit, everyone talks about Eildon pondage etc but Pykes is up there too.

Thanks mate, the water there looks excellent at the moment. There was a blue-green algae bloom there earlier in the year but it has since cleared up and it looks fantastic now.

Haha that makes two of us! 😅 This is a spot that deserves a lot more love in my opinion, there's some cracking good fish on offer and it's not far from town either

Bro what I full missed this somehow... This was awesome as you know I love my trout fishing 🎣🎣🎣 No sure how the redundancy went for you but it's better than the sack that is for sure 👍🏼 Hopefully everything is working out well for you bro Spewing you lost that big bow early on but hey you still got out there and had a crack 👍🏼 Your mate was definitely getting into them as well 👍🏼 Although you will always catch more on the mudeyes. Try some soft plastic mudeye with a really light jig head bro they go well, Even better weightless. That brown from the session before was a beauty, The trout definitely love the double clutch. Keep up the awesome work as always mate Tight lines 🎣

Cheers Mick, yeah it all worked out well in the end as I've got a new job I'll be starting soon that pays better. It was the kick in the pants I needed to get a better job tbh.

They're the final larvae stage of a dragonfly, the trout here absolutely love them!

G'day mate, congrats on the big chonker. Hoping I can ask you a question as I can't find much info on the VFA site - does the closed trout season not apply to Pykes as a stocked reservoir? I was trying to find a bit of info about minimum sizes (even small smoked trout are great) and am pretty confused by the regs. The regs only seem to refer to rivers and streams or named lakes, but I couldn't find anything specific on Pykes and it looks a great winter spot. Any advice?
@jordythebassist
@jordythebassist 2 года назад
Correct mate, the closed season applies to flowing streams and rivers while lakes and reservoirs stay open. Pykes is a stocked fishery with no known breeding in the reservoir itself, so a closed season would be pointless there.

Hey mate that atomic arrowz rod that frank was using do you know if it was the bream crank or the bream surface
@frankbenvenuto7499
@frankbenvenuto7499 Год назад
Hey mate, I think it was the 3-6kg estuary rod i used that day. I have a bream surface also. The estuary 3-6kg is amazingly light and not as rigid as other 3-6kg rods, great value, I have 3 of them, I also have the 6ft skinny water 1-3kg
@johnnyaroha4246
@johnnyaroha4246 Год назад
@@frankbenvenuto7499 Thanks frank think I’m going to invest in a couple myself what rod would you choose for bass?
@frankbenvenuto7499
@frankbenvenuto7499 Год назад
@@johnnyaroha4246 i use the bream surface for bass and th skinny water one also. I will be using the 3-6 estuary more this season because it's just a little bit stronger and the bass are getting bigger in werribee but either one will do, I think the reel is more important for bass because they will blow up cheap reels

Great vid gents. Can I ask what rod auld mate Frank was using with the float? I like the butt. YEWWWW🤙🏾
@frankbenvenuto7499
@frankbenvenuto7499 2 года назад
Hey mate, it's a Daiwa 1-2kg Hyper-x, I cut 6 inches off the butt and added a split butt. I don't like long butt handles. I just used an el cheapo rod from wish that was shit and just cut the split butt handle and attached it to the Hyper-x, much better like that
