Thanks Warren for sharing this excerpt with us non-Academy members. Bob explains things very clearly and his approach is easy to understand. Of course pros like you and Bob make things appear easier than they are but it's ultimately not rocket science to get good mixes.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that has like 80 EQs on pop/r&b vocals

Nice teaser Warren :). Thanks to Bob Horn. That snare was killer. I know, this was about the vocals, but nonetheless that snare hit me kinda hard. Have a great time @Namm!

Yes! I'm kinda a control freak. It can definitely be done with broader strokes and less work, less plugins, etc, but Ive never really worked like that myself.

Wow, that's a lot more EQ than I thought would have been necessary. Warren, what's your choice on the number of EQ plugins you use to sculpt per track? Thanks for the helpful advice!

Awesome... so subtle but stacked together an awesome result!! I always doubt when to put in a new plugin or adjust settings of an already present plugin... Any advise on that? Have a great time at NAMM!

as we do parallel vocals, I have a question: which of your EQ'a is linear phase? should all?

Hey Giles they were homemade. Just followed a skyline diffusor diagram found on the internet back in 2011...Used 1" square pine dowels.

@@Borys6355 likewise 😊 I've already got Soothe but Gulfoss looks and sounds too good to resist!
@Borys6355
@Borys6355 5 лет назад
I'using soothe since 2016, and this is a great tool, but creates too many artifacts, when there is a problem with the source of the sound itself it can be a great problem solver, as far as i can see gulfoss is just another new type of tool that can be very useful, cant wait to try it 😁

lol i recorded and mixed patti labelle's R&B vocals grammy winner in 1993 i think.. burnin album... pick right mic ..ride input to limiter so as not to compress a lot ..split track if people sing soft them belt..auto plug in crap is auto crap and unless rock crushed vocals ...so laziness IMHO
@bradmodd7856

these automated plugins are making pro production available to amateurs, before we know it we will be using whole automix templates. Musicians need engineers less? Or engineers will write more music? Technology is a constant curveball
