yep activator makes it faster but not as strong from what ive noticed, also i think the baking soda acts almost like an activator as it seems to dry faster as it soaks in. at least when repairing small plastic parts like screw posts in laptops it does add a good amount of strength

When running tests like these, it is critical to make sure the paint cans are the same distance apart and that the length of plastic on the can is equal on both sides. I don't think this would affect your general conclusions, but good controls make the results more robust (speaking as a scientist 🙂)

Super glue and baking soda definitely works. Dries rock hard and can actually be sanded. Great for building up strength on the backside of the crack that's not visible

It works. I’ve used super glue with added stuff like acrylic powder. Essentially more surface area.

Love this comparison. Ive used baking soda and SG for more than a decade in with my RC sailplane field fixes. I'd suggest just a spritz of activator (btw you can also activate with water spritz). Too much activator make the glue more brittle. Id like to see a combo steel wool and baking soda fix.

That is what I use (baking soda) to glue large 3D printed models together. usually for a but (end ) joint some wire or mesh is needed to be hot welded, melted into plastics where strength or stress occurs. I've see ASH from a cigarette used and curious how well that may work vs baking soda?

Try one by mixing the superglue while melting the plastic together like a weld with a butane torch but make sure the glue is added when the pastic is still semi liquified. Better use a respirator for all your tests because super glue is toxic in liquid form and you are using quite a bit with some unknown chemical reactions.

i fixed a cracked handle molded as part of a storage tub with ca glue and baking soda it eventually cracked i refixed it with butcher string and ca glue its still fixed

I would think that if you take scrapings, or a finer grind, of what you are applying the glue to and stir that into the glue and then apply it you would also achieve a stronger bond. The point is simply that ‘like’ bonds to ‘like’.

The instructions are wrong lol... Kidding aside, "a few drops" works great for a gapless repair (handle on a coffee mug, smooth metal on flat glass, etc) but this is a different technique that bridges gaps with a filler material.
