This is becoming one of my favourite channels. Thankyou for not trying to be shouty-shouty-attention-grabby types with a flashy no-attention-span-needed sensationalism. My autism salutes you. Brown is really immense. As someone intimated below, like most AA stuff it takes some time alone and quiet fiddling before you start to a hang of what it can do so take advantage of the generous trial model and invest a little time in it. This may be why Acustica are still relatively little-known. Brown may be the best thing they've ever done.
Let me start by saying you guys deserve a lot more traffic than you're getting so far. One of the less ideal aspects of RU-vid is there's little chance I would've stumbled on your channel if I weren't searching for something as new (or obscure) as an AA plugin. Your descriptive approach towards details is DIFFERENT in a very good way and it's immediately clear that you're knowledgeable and level biased (kind of like neutral but better - you have an actual opinion). I'll definitely let others know about your channel. Wow! I thought I had accumulated pretty much everything I wanted from AA. On top of that I wasn't initially all that enthused about what they were emulating but after watching your really outstanding demo/eval I'm reconsidering. I'm hearing early-mid Pink Floyd-like production possibilities, which isn't what I expected. Maybe it's because I've been incorporating a lot more analog synths into my productions lately. Your video has me thinking about coloring and dynamics possibilities with this plugin for the song I'm working on right now, so if your objectives include informing and inspiring then mission accomplished with me. Have you guys considered reviewing the new BB N105 plugin from Kit Plugins? I imagine you are already well aware of it but just in case you're not it's the first release from Kit Plugins and is a partnership with Blackbird Studios. It's an emulation of the Neve Console in Studio A. Considering what Blackbird has in their lockers and storage, I'm hopeful this partnership will workout in terms of the quality of their plugins and commercial viability of continuing to make emulations. The feedback on Gearspace is neutral to slightly critical, and RU-vid reviews I've seen so far should be taken with a grain of salt.
Thanks so much for the encouragement and thoughtful post. We'll definitely have to check out the BB N105. Big fan of John McBride/Blackbird Studio. And we really find it impossible to have enough Neve options! - EB
My favorite Canadians! I'm loving the PRE's on Brown! they give a 3D hug to the source. Have you guys gotten around watching "Changeling"? You mentioned it a few episodes back. I did, it was pretty pretty good. Looking forward to your LOCALs page so I can support you there, as you know I'm a hug fan of your content. Best regards!
I haven’t had a chance to demo it yet, but on paper Brown is right up my alley. My friend has a Federal 864 that we both love and I’ve been really interested in those old Quad Eight consoles for a long time. I also just love the visual aesthetic of Brown so much I’m concerned it’s going to warp my perception of the sound if i try it 😂
@@mrnelsonius5631 I absolutely understand your point about the UI and the visual mojo. I'm in the same camp. I have all the intentions to believe I'm hearing 3D magic because... oh boy, those graphics are gorgeous!
YES. I’ve decided to buy one more AA plug-in during the sale and am torn on which one. I’m *very* interested in Brown. My friend has a Federal 864 in his studio (full bandwidth with some mods) and that thing is crazy good sounding. Can’t wait to watch this 🙏🙏🙏
Awesome! Hope the vid helps you hear it but as always grab the trial and have a good listen. It takes a little time to get familiar with these channel strips - so many knobs! Thank you for watching and commenting! - CW
@@BadassAgile love your channel. Between the two of you what are your go-to AA mastering/mixbus plugins. With my songwriter/production workflow Acustica tends to be most practical on buses and towards the end of my process. I demo-Ed Snow and immediately bought it because I love what it does in that context. Looking for more flavors and don’t know where to start!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and demo of Brown. I am not totally convinced since I am spoiled with a lot of Nebula stuff. I still think on the Nebula platform (especially TimP) it nails the compressors more. The compressor felt a bit wonky to me. The preamp and EQ are nice but I think I will pass this one as well. Besides of that, In Search of Darkness, is it on any streaming platform?
Nebula stuff is so good - EB got me into the TimpP compressors which are great and I will often reach for EL Arouser or some of the UA stuff when it comes to compressors. I thought AA Camel, Pink and Navy were some of their more useful comps but yeah something in the 'action' seems to be missing at times. In Search of Darkness I found on Shudder.
@@BadassAgile I heard also a lot of good stuff about UAD. I don't have a soundcard that supports UAD plugins. I have FG Stress since it was lately on sale. This is also a nice emu like the Emp. Labs. Their Mike E comp seem to be very nice as well. Yep, TimP stuff is killer! I grabbed recently his DBX160 comp. Thanks for the feedback about the horror movie, will have a look at it. Keep up the good work with your awesome channel guys!
I think what you guys are doing is super dope - I do think the processing is a wee bit high on the initial host’s mic. I understand it might be going for that Howard Stern / heavy radio compression effect but it’s a bit overcooked.
Hey thanks Jared! I appreciate the feedback - are you talking about EB;s mic or mine? I've only listened back on my earbuds and nothing jumped out but will have a closer listen. Thanks for watching and commenting. - CW
These plugins generate even order harmonics, hence dc offset. Sometimes it's filtered out in a plugin, sometimes not. A simple highpass around 5Hz will do the trick. It's easy to see DC offset on an FFT analyzer, it will appear as activity near 0 Hz. Thanks for watching! - EB
