@@alxsblv6164 they don’t realize you can’t really dodge the rush unless you get that lucky angle where he swoops to the side behind him you really just gotta boost yourself and Sheild and tank that shit the best way imo
@maximedaunis8292 nah DS2 is ass bro. Some of the worst bosses in the the franchise are in DS1 and DS2. They make Godskin duo and fire giant look like good bosses (they're not)
@@dididi3368 DS2 had great hit boxes? HAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah, the game where there were dozens of memes about one boss's hitboxes alone (pursuer), and it gets much worse than that in the game. On the other hand, DS3 is the game that always had videos showing off people dodging the attacks by pixels because the hitboxes were extremely accurate.
@@elib9002 Great I also destroyed him first try, but Ive seen people suffering to him and beign their first filter, usually people that play very slowly and need to learn the rythm of the boss, dont get that you need to dodge his dash forward and stuff.
@@JohnDoe-xt3kf due to the tracking, it’s heavily dependent on context and environment which makes it so there’s no 1 consistent way to dodge it which makes it a lot more about knowledge than timing. Whilst I do think it’s an interesting idea to have a move that you need to think for, it’s somewhat poorly executed since there aren’t really any other moves that need you to think like this which causes it to be really difficult to be able to actually tell what the intended way to dodge it is. (This has also now been patched in the most recent update but it’s worth bringing up how the original spawn location for the Gaius was directly in front of the fog gate which was the one place where it actually is possible to dodge either left or right freely, which is the biggest culprit for making it seem like it’s just a normal move that can be dealt with the normal way)
@@swift7842 That's simply not true, you can 100% consistently dodge the charge if you get the timing right and dodge to the side but toward him How is it difficult to tell you're supposed to dodge toward him but to the side ?
My favorite part is how the charge attack hits multiple times. And also the part where it does inconsistent damage. And also the part where it hits you through knocked down s
Remember when he charged you, hit you into a wall, kept going so you have no choice but to stand up or roll into him STILL doing the charge? Death is what happens then lol. Never mess up the first part.
It’s quite dependent on his position relative to you when starting the charge, there’s no fullproof way to consistently dodge it without any outside items like raptor of the mist or vow of the indomitable. (Although I’m somewhat unsure if it still applies to light load)
@swift7842 The charge CAN be consistently dodged with just medium load for sure! Been doing it most of time when helping people in coop. But make sure to put the Opaline Hardtear in your Flask of Wondrous Physick, so in case you fail the dodge, it will save you.
Miyazaki went full fucking anime with some of these enemies and bosses. Very cool and flashy, if only my character wasn't moving like a rheumatic snail.
Why would you expect a boss to behave like the player character ? Bosses fight in souls games were always supposed to be "superior" to the player character in terms of what they're able to do, it was always supposed to be the player overcoming the odds and killing beings more powerful than them. don't remember Artorias behaving like the player character, he does backflip, frontflip and leap across the arena, he outclass the player character in terms of movement and abilities. This is a consistent thing across 99% of bosses in souls games, they're not supposed to be the equal of the player characters they're supposed to be very powerful beings that surpass the player character in every way. This doesn't make the fights unfair mechanically since the player character has i-frames and is able to dodge 99% of attack thrown by the bosses, when they're not able it's most likely a bug to be fixed.
@@Crichjo32 It doesn't take 5 years, you're supposed to find openings to heal not just mindlessly spam the heal button every time you take damage. Also none of the bosses move that fast, the vast majority of their attack are reactable and avoidable
@@portalmanHUN This is how souls games always worked, Artorias of the Abyss in DS1 can do triple back flip, leap across the entire arena, do a double frontflip into an attack, can input read when the player is healing, has a anime powerup moement, is literally inspired from a manga character, can charge at high speed, has delayed attacks... Bosses in souls games were always full anime, they were always "cool and flashy" and always outmatched the speed of the player character. Also the speed of the player character has vastly increased in Elden Ring, you have light roll, you recover faster from attack, you can jump to cover more distance and to get i-frames, you have access to attack that can close gap, you also have "anime" attack, you have tons of i-frame AOW, you have guard counter, you heal faster...
it is the deflecting hardtear, dropped by defeating the furnace golem in the gravesite plain, the first one you are likely to see when entering the dlc
@@Kumire_921 so i havent used it myself as i havent got to the DLC (i play slow) - but if im remembering correctly you would block like you were trying to do a sekiro style block (right before contact) and it basically blocks like 100% of the damage - just watched someone block basically the entire waterfowl dance from malenia with it
@@man-iz4ml you can actualy with a good timing on dashs, double jump and dismounts. Also staying on is flank that not covered by is lance help. Also i advise a good holly spear or a throwing weapon (dlc) help even with full strengh builds.
eh, fighting him on horseback wasn't too fun from my experience. While you can flank around and jump over a lot of the attacks, the pig still has some pretty janky hitboxes that make it feel like a coin flip each time on wether or not it hits you. Pairing this with the fact that getting hit will ABSOLUTELY kill torrent, and leave you stunned on the ground long enough for Gaius to get a free hit on you, the risk just isn't worth it. Had a lot more fun fighting this guy on foot than I did on horseback tbh
Me medium rolling straight through the charge and coming out unscathed each and every time. Gaius isn’t hard or BS, people just seem to be awful at timing their rolls. Same with the final boss, time your rolls, punishes and heals.
I think the fight needs work but although I fucking hate the design and aesthetic, I thought the flow of the fight was decent, Besides the point blank charge. (I am terrible at these games and have also solo'd)
pretty much my only issue with it was that stupid charge, cant dodge into it or to the side, cant jump over it, I tried SPRINTING sideways and that SOMETIMES worked lol.
u earned my sub, great hard work! for the people struggling with this boss. greatshield + no skill, weapon(w/ashes of war) that can do a thrust with holy damage, impaling thrust, giant hunt, piercing fang, or the new crucible wings with a weapon that will do a thrust and not a weapon that makes you hold the weapon sideways. crucible wings is the best bet, as it has a lot of movement priority, so you can thrust, hit him, and you can shift to the left or right, and go past and behind him before he swings, and you might take another hit but it should be weaker, and you can dodge some attacks using the wings. talismans/physick dont matter that much, but focus on either, damage, blue bar(FP size, the FP regen talisman is great if you had low FP like me, by the time youre ready to use the L2 attack again, you have just enough.), shield power, stamina, or raw defense. highly suggest just using golden vow and flame grant me strength(for the plain physical), or use the godslayer fire armor(forgot the incantation and never picked it up on that file i beat gaius on.) ya gotta at least be medium weight, lightweight if you want to roll on his dashes and most attacks, on medium you will need to pace yourself and shield half of the melee attacks and dodge everything else. for his giant spin attack crashing, run directly backwards, just make sure theres enough space behind the camera. this will easily dodge the entire attack. if you struggle on his beginning dash attack with dodge rolling or shielding, you can go on your horse torrent and double jump diagonally to the left forward over his head when he gets nearby. Gaius can attack you from literally any direction when your hugging him, and he has quite some distance and tracking if you simply try to out-sprint his attacks running away, it will catch you. he basically does spin attacks almost or spins on a dime, think of it like that. after shield some attacks, you can sprint forward very briefly and do your thrusts. highly reccommend fire knights greatsword. good luck.
Tips for this boss: guard counter and holy damage, mimic tears or aggressive soul summon, this boss takes you back to basics like dark souls 1. I beat him with finger shield and heavy lordsworn straight sword with flame spear ash of war.
The moment I first walked into his boss chamber it was something straight out of a movie. I didn't rest at the grace because I just didn't want to and was running at half flasks. I walked onto the field trying to ascertain what the place was. I then remembered all the footage I have seen of this boss fight and realized what it was. I tried rushing back to the room but it was too late, the boss healthbar had appeared and I was about to feel the wrath of Gaius's galactic drill 3000.
To this day I still don’t know whether I’m expected to block, jump, frame perfect dodge or Torrent i-frames that stupid charge of his to avoid taking damage.
diagonally"frame perfect dodge" The dodge is absolutely not "frame perfect" you have a reasonable margin for error , you're supposed to dodge diagonally with good timing
Use the guard absorption talisman and get your blessing up wickedly high. By that point i had like… 68, 70 percent physical reduction, so eating the damage wasn’t too bad but blocking it was better
Use holy or bleed, also summon the 4 guys with the shields. They take all the agro and you can heal them with spells. Then just shoot him with bleed/holy
Since I found trying to dodge roll the long range charge inconsistent, I ended up always running jumping to the side instead. Works consistently when timed right. If the charge started up close meanwhile dodge roll is consistent.
This dlc repeatedly shows the benefits of a greatshield you do the backflip on his charge and don’t lose tons of stamina. Scadutree blast did literally no damage after it had previously 1 shotted me. Flame knights stagger on each riposte and do little tick damage.
