Mizuno JPX923 Forged vs Mizuno Pro 225 Which one is MORE Forgiving? and which one would be a better choice. Identical in loft but different in head design technology. One housed very much so at the better player end of the JPX series where the 225's are very much so a Mizuno Pro iron but with the most help possible.
Could you mix them? Which one performs best, which is more forgiving???? Lets find out.

Great review. I believe the 923 Forged has a sole slot which helps thin shots, like TaylorMade GI irons but covered up for a cleaner look. Very nice. It also has a slightly wider sole and more offset. Feel seems to be very different. That's may be the deal clincher.

Great comparison as always Jay. I just wanted to give you a little snippet on my experience with Mizunos. I’m a lefty and a dyed in the wool Mizuno fan. I’ve got the jpx921 hot metals but I’ve always loved the look of blades, so on a whim I bought 5-pw mp20 sel’s. I’m a 15 handicapper and figured I would have major problems hitting them but to mine and my friends surprise I have no problem at all. As a matter of fact I hit them better than my hot metals. I don’t have a logical explanation for this but it’s a fact. I certainly hope this doesn’t go south on me but so far so good. I of course did loose some distance but it made up for it in the tremendous feel of the clubs. This is just a little info to let the lefty mid handicappers like me know that we can hit blades. Thanks for your informative videos.

For me, besides the impact sound and visual at setup, the shaft selection is most important to optimize performance although Jay fares well with anything ‘close’. Guess he’s shaft agnostic ?…for us mortals, shaft match (fit) then head selection is how most fittings progress. My experience.
@AskGolfNut

I'm near on totally not shaft sensitive. The way I transition and plane of swing means I'm really only susceptible to lie angle deflection so can use any shaft whatsoever. I have my preferences for feel or likes for weighting but in reality it doesn't matter. 👍

So glad that you did this compare between these two clubs. I was going to get fitted for the 225s couple of months ago but decided to wait fore the jpx923 forged. I am going the next week to get fitted but before that I think that the 225s are the favorite because of the looks and somehow I feel like the jpx 923 forged is too much closer to the hot metal pro instead of standing alone between the hot metal and the tour, but I will try them for sure.

I settled in the Mizuno Pro 225. Could not be happier. I was around a 20 handicap when I bought them. I am now a 15.4. Could not be happier! Did I say that already… (I am not claiming the HC drop is the clubs BTW - just hard work). The point is, these clubs were advanced enough to grow with me and forgiving enough to live with as a 20HC. Crisp strikes are amazing and encourage you to get the center as the feel is addictive. If I hold game improvement irons now (I.e Maviks or Rogues etc) they feel way to big and offset. The 225s have definitely encouraged me to be a better player and I have risen to that occasion. Would not go back. Love them!!

@mikelanzo9872 Год назад
@@jeffyeah4256 appreciate the comment, but you can’t possibly classify the quality of my iron play or iron striking ability from the handicap . I can land a green almost every time from within 170m. Irons are my strong suit. Driving and short game are where I drop shots. There are multiple paths to a 15 handicap. I often 3 putt, or bum a chip. If I am shooting 15 over and take the 3 putts and double chip shots out of the score on average I save 9+ shots a round (just converting 3 putts to 2 putts). That has nothing to do with my iron play and that would put me at a handicap of 6. The 225s are ideal for my game and I would not change them for anything. They were also fitted by Mizuno. I was originally looking at JPX, but the fitter put me in a 225 as I struck them best (by far) and he said they would also grow with me better.

As a leftie the 225 is not an option so I tested the mizuno forged against a few others including my current gamer the Pxg gen 5 p. The latter won out for three reasons- no odd flier like i got with the jpx. Equally less drop off on mishits. Second much better feel. Third shaft options were better and more suitable and I tried three different shafts in the mizuno. Goes to show how clubs are very personal.
@MrMatthew262
@MrMatthew262 Год назад
The gen 5 P’s have to be more forgiving just because of its sheer size. I found the 923 forged to almost look like a tour iron in comparison. The forged have a thud like sound and feel compared to the pxg which is very soft.

As always, great review….your off center hits are your bread and butter and set you apart from the rest. And, you like Mizunos! Interesting the two had the same lie (right?) but the JPX was struck more toe down by almost 2 degrees over the 225…why do you think that is? I have the 923 HMP and looking to get something smaller…I played a combo set of MP69/59s back in the day and now back to Mizuno. Lost some distance over the years after two hip replacements (53 years old), so need more distance. Thought the HMP would be a win-win with a bigger head providing more forgiveness, but I strike my T100S irons much more consistent and love the smaller head…so, looking at the 225 or JPX 923 Forged…thanks for this.

So in desperation 18 months ago I did lots of work with a local Pro to move my strike away from the heel. Question. I own 922 Forged irons. The 923 Forged 4-6 irons are the same loft as the 921 before dropping to 30* instead of 31* with my 921 forged, etc. How much more ball speed and/or distance would I get with a 923 forged? Maybe 1mph and a yard or two difference? The 923s look much nicer than the forged, but I’m completely content with my 921 6-9 irons. Just don’t think it’s worth justifying spending massive amounts of money on a new model when I’m already happy with what I have. Lol. Tend to make that mistake over and over again for some reason 🤔😆 And yes, the slotted 4-7 irons in the JPX Forged irons feel springier, faster and a tad bit firmer in my opinion. In all honesty if you are coming from the 921 already you probably won't see a huge difference in performance. If you were coming from say the 900s then yes. So aesthetics can be a justification but if its based on performance I would have to say it would probably be negligible 👍

Its a measure of extremes, if one miss hits vertically the same amount lets say 13mm for a rounded half inch, you'll get away with the low on the face as a measure of terrible more than the fat from a variety of lies. @AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Год назад
That's unfortunately due to the physical lie of the heads. The 225s were more in line with my lie angle needs against the media samples of the Forged are at standard. When I tested the Hot Metals their lie angle was even worse 😕 I'll definitely put 223 vs F on the list 👍

Can you purchase iron heads only from Mizuno?
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 10 месяцев назад
I don't believe so directly from them, also not from any dna accounts but there are limited authorised fabrication centres that have Mizuno heads that are used for them to fulfil orders so you may get some luck with them...... 🤷🤷🤷

There are a great series of videos and I think the conclusion is going to be that Mizuno needs to do a 2025 redo/tweak of a few of their offerings to better separate them. To the Mizuno guys watching this, I want to see the next 225 in the JPX lineup as the JPX Pro and @ 32-degree 7-iron. I want to see the new/current JPX Pro, add a little tech/slot, like the Titleist T100s, and it should be put into the Mizuno Pro lineup at 32 degrees. Next, I want a combo of the Hot Metal Pro and the JPX Forged into a JPX Forged Pro (near zero offset, 31-degree 7 iron, small'ish head) - this should be the club for the 8-15 handicap player that wants everything - looks, distance, spin, no offset - everything. Then the JPX HL will be the 15-25 handicap iron - either hollow-bodied or similar to the current.

Paul…Mizuno is on a 2 year product cycle. Current 923s are in the lineup til ~ Aug/Sept ‘24, which believe will be 925s. The Hot Metal series is currently ~ $50 less than the MP 221/223/225 series. 923 Tour and Forged are close to MPs. The current MPs will be changed out ~ Sept ‘23, and will be in the 30/32/34* 7i range. New MPs are probably already final designed, with first runs of first production test lots probably,y in process. The 923 HM/Pro are in the industry Game Improvement category. I personally achieve HM HL performance in HM and Pro via soft stepping shafts steels or moving into lower than 85g graphites, some tipped and sanded .370” models to fit .355” hosels, in lieu of reaming .355” to .370”. Am told often ..” Mizuno is a Japanese family owned business, and moves more deliberately than the financially owned TM. It is one wild marketplace, and mimics the auto industry in many wAys.

Not a fan of the 225. Bought them, sold them. Feels springy. Cannot stand these fake looking blades that are just cavity irons with steel wallpaper. Really has no business being in the MP lineup. It is a hollow body iron - no pro is playing a full set of those - and yet it is not as forgiving as the 923 Forged, which is easily the best of the JPX Forged lineup. Turf interaction also better in the 923 Forged.
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Год назад
Agree that there has been a migration from pure blade to more game improvement within the players sector. Its come from consumers demanding different launch characteristics and then manufacturers seeing a market for potential sales. In the purest terms you are absolutely right and I agree, although a lot of golfers would disagree based on their golf improving from having the extra help....... But I do look back on the days where MP meant exactly what it should 👍

@@AskGolfNut Your reviews are great. I can tell you’re a purist at heart. And don’t get me wrong - if I am going hollow body, Mizuno and Srixon (ZX4 MKii) are the best. But there are a lot or better players who will do really well with the 923 Forged. Whatever tweaks they made to the sole, when you get it on grass it is nice, just a little quicker in and out of the ground than the 921. Off wet ground like we have often here in the mid-Atlantic it’s very nice. Really performs as well as the Srixon v-sole but the Mizuno is not quite so wide. I think the 923 lineup is best group of JPX heads yet. Keep up the great work. You have quite a following in the U.S.

WTF is being shaft sensitive?? I’ve never heard ANYONE say that before. Nor can I find anything online about it. Your telling me you can get the same distance and dispersion with any shaft?
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut Год назад
Hi Smiththebat, basically yes exactly that. I've tested so many shafts over the years from ladies all the way through to the super super stiff tour scaffold pole shafts and none of them make any difference to the flight of the ball. I've met a few people like it over the years, see may be one or two a year. It's to do with how the shaft is deflected during transition. The main reason why it's not commonly seen on the Internet is that it's not very common to see and also shaft companies that sell countless products are only in business making and selling the huge numbers they do. But with any thing in life there are always either side of the spectrum and most sit in between 👍 Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍

None are anymore efficient than others, but I guess just through preference I'm gaming the $ Taper Stiff. But I've used 130 X and also 95 Regs with absolutely no difference so I just go with what I like the look of at any particular point 😊

Your claim of not being “shaft sensitive” is a crazy statement. Shafts deliver differently with where it’s stiff where coil is, I mean just a nonsense statement
@AskGolfNut
@AskGolfNut 11 месяцев назад
Hi William, I've done content on my channel before (even recently) showing how vastly different shafts make no difference to ball flight whatsoever for me. This is because I load the shaft in tension rather than bending stress. I therefore don't see any measurable 3 dimensional face angle differences at impact regardless of what shaft I use. I've found a few people over the years that have a similar load profile, the vast vast majority of golfers load with bending stress so your comment is absolutely correct for the masses 👍 As for nonsense, I've literally proved my point time after time after time throughout the years. We all do things differently that have a greater and lesser effect on many aspects of everything, I'm just on one extreme side of that scale. Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍
