Training flight to deploy Mk-82’s on moving armor units using CCIP in dive bomb profile. Video from Knight 3 flight lead. Flight was a two-ship flight within a four-ship package, tasked with strike on armor units in the NW corner of the target box.
The challenge beyond releasing in CCIP on moving targets was spotting them due to the low cloud layer, along with trying to keep an eye on them as they moved rapidly in a random pattern. #1 hit 2 out of 10 releases, learning that multiple releases on one pass is less accurate. #2 hit 4 out of 5 releases.
(NOTES:
Lost aircraft on takeoff was due to engine failure. Lesson Learned: F-16 loaded with 12 Mk-82's is heavy and requires a gentle rotation on take-off otherwise the tail can hit.
Aircraft dead on runway on return was a result of an emergency landing due to fuel exhaustion. Fortunately, there was enough room on the side to safely land the package.)
