Thanks for this video, it was thebexact issue I've been having for the last 2 years, I replaced the boot lock, the boot latch, fuses and finally found this video. Wish I seen this sooner. Would've saved me saved me $100 and lots of time.
thank you, I've been having hassles with my tailgate for a while, even before this crappy year, tried lots of things, somethings works, temporary , but, after I watched your video today, I tried what you did, it's now fixed and working. thank you
Thanks for this, that is really useful. My Son’s R32 has the exact same symptoms and we’ve replaced the boot latch twice. But when the boot light would cycle on and off with the lifting and lowering of the tailgate at around the half open position, We too reckoned it was going to be the harnesses in the convoluted rubber conduits between shell and tailgate. Thanks to your clip we now know it is the left side and don’t have to remove all the plastic panelling from the tailgate itself it looks like. Will fix this in the next few days. Liked and Subbed too!
Spot on. I never watch complete videos because of some unnecessary things, but your vid was precise and to the point. I am having the same issue. I have VW Golf 5 TSI 2006 and my back trunk is not getting unlocked from the remote key. However, my tail lights and rear viper is working quite well. Now I will try to plug out and plug in again the fuse (just like you did) to see if it works! Thanks man for the interesting video. Will try to get back to you on your Instagram incase I need further assistance. Keep up the good work! Cheers
Unfortunately it didn't work for me. May be its the problem with the actuator. Do you have any other recommendations? Because Volkswagen service center will charge alot for this
Test the wiring at the trunk actuator when unlocking to see if the signal is getting through. If you see voltage change then it’s the actuator. If not there is still wiring issue
@@HarrodsGarage I tried that but I couldn't hear any clicking sound (after pressing the remote button) to check if the signal is reaching there or not.
Hello ! The trunk of my MK5 is locked and I have to go inside to open it. I did some soldering on damaged wires and it's still locked. Can you please tell me the size/colors of the cables I have to look to fix the trunk ? Am about to try to fix it again but I want to look for the wires that I need 😄 Thank you for your video and your time ! 😎 🤙
Thanks for your answer @@HarrodsGarage☺️ do you remember the sections of the wires ? I see 0.5mm2 and 1.5mm2 but the fat one looks like 2mm2..😅 I think am about to repair all the wires with new ones and use the connectors with solder inside to do something clean (am an IT guy but I don't solder that much...) but I want to be sure to order the right sections. Thanks again for your video, maybe the best one for this problem on MK5s
Have exactly the same symptoms as you on a mk5.. Fog light, reverse light and boot all of a sudden not releasing. Will try the fuses and if not take off rear left Gromit and solder up the affected wires. Cheers man, great info! Can you fix a gremlin sunroof on a mk5 next pls? =)
@@HarrodsGarage Thanks for your reply, it's umm constantly opening and closing (just up and down rather than full open and close) when driving. If I close the sunroof completely with the key fob after parking it behaves but when the electricals are turned on it goes up and down about once every 30 or so seconds, I call it the sunroof gremlin bug =) Heard it might be rust in the contacts of the open close mechanism but am yet to pull it apart to investigate Have you come across something similar?
Hey buddy,I checked the wires (they were ok,taped over where the insulation wore off) I changed the boot lid handle ,the lock (and gave it generous wd 40) I checked the fuse box and still boot won't open.Any suggestions?
Update. I tried it, didnt work. I think the car doesn't know when a door / the trunk is open (interior light doesnt come on) and therefore doesnt release the trunk, believing its closed. I'm really shooting in the dark now, tried everything else
so I am confused, you reset the fuse (removed it and installed it and it worked? it looked like the issue was fixed? but you still went with figuring out the wiring issue in the trunks door?
@@HarrodsGarage okay, I can fix it but did you put regular tape around it after? Do I need to cover the exposed wire with something after soldering them together?
Similar problem in my mk5 (not light issues) BUT tailgate opens when it wants. Often at 5th, 17th or 21st try. My VAGCOM says this about left rear door, thats works OK: 01044 - Wrong coded control unit 005 - Basic Fit/False/Missing Fit 00098 - Central Locking Motor, Left Rear Door: SAFE (V163) 012 - Fault in the electrical circuit - Intermittent 00122 - Left Rear Door Exterior Warning Light/Down Lamp 012 - Fault in the electrical circuit 00102 - Left Rear Inside Lock Button (E310) 008 - Illegal signal Any idea? THANKS
Seems like they are at that age and usage that they are having electrical issues. Maybe check in the door jam for broken wires or brittle wiring that could be shorting out occasionally. The right rear window in our reversed it’s polarity and we couldn’t find the cause of it.
Hey man, I'm having a weird issue, everything works fine except last night but both my rear turn signals started going off even though the car was off and locked , its only the rear though not the front or mirror turn signals. Only way to stop it is by disconnecting the battery. Any idea why this is happening?
I don't know if you fixed it or not, only watched 5 minutes. You mumble and it's hard to understand what you're saying, and maybe talking to yourself as well. I'm sure lots of folks love to share the adventure, but I would find it much more helpful if you got it sorted then wrote down a few things to say THEN showed us what you did.
