Just incase anyone wants to know the torque spec for the 6 bolts (3 on each side) is 115nm and the bolt the goes through the bush is 125nm. (this is advised in the Haynes manual for the 1.4 zetec but I would assume its the same for all mk6 fiestas)
Oh man, the rust you guys have to deal with. I’m much happier fighting off the venomous spiders that seem to like living under the car than watching the metal pile itself under the car.
@@6uiltdifferent I dunno, there’s a certain charm to popping the jacking covers off and finding a family of redbacks. The giant huntsman spiders are ok, they generally eat redbacks, but it’s hard to ignore a slide the size of your palm flying out of the Demist vents on the inside of the windscreen.
@@TheKittyRanch I’ll let you deal with them but Atleast you can deal with them a bit easier than rust haha so I guess it’s not that bad I’d have the blowtorch at hand and take them down
Great video, it helped a lot!! Cheers!! Just two things i'd like to add though, use excessive amounts of lube if your using Polly bushes or they start squeeking (more anoying than anything tbh) the second is i noticed you don't have to set up the bracket as long as your using Polly bushes, the pin isn't fixed so they will still rotate even once torqued up (100% clock the braket if your using stock rubber bushes though or they will last five mins).
I've got some original ones to go on and all new bolts. I'm gonna take subframe completely off, wire brush, red oxide n black it. You will have to do what I did, everything off underneath, wire brush on drill, red oxide, then paint it by hand. For some reason there is no underseal on the back end, large areas are bare metal, heat shields are no problem, tanks the main job. Best thing to do, is an area a weekend, otherwise it's too daunting. I've got both subframes to take off, clean n paint soon.
Linda like you’re gonna be busy and it’s fine already had the tank out before as it’s my daily I’m going to be lazy and send it off to get one of those underside restros works out actually cheaper and they’ll be able to do it faster than what I can do that’s probably her fate haha just gonna get the suspension all painted up hopefully will save us some penny’s
I'm doing exactly that in a few weeks, I just received my bushes today and it came with bolts, I don't know if you might remember but, I just put the bolt through the Bush and its not a tight fit, I would have expected the bolt to be the same diameter as the Bush hole.
Yeah, was definitely not as hard as I expected when I did them. I took the entire axle off thinking I'd have to wrestle them out, but a quick drilling of the rubber in a few places to relive the force and mine just tapped out in one piece. Think the poly ones I used were yellow or maybe purple. Heard black are very harsh
I have just done mine this week. I used a jigsaw to cut out the rubber. The remaining part was plastic and just took it out with a screwdriver. It took 10 mins I have also installed Powerflex bushes. The complete axle was taken off due to advisories on corrosion.
Good man sounds like you were busy how are you finding them? Gonna get another axle and powder coat it just my bushes were quite bad had a 2 finger gap between the wheel and arch one side and a 1 finger gap the other haha
I ground off the corrosion and then painted with black hammertoe. I had to break into the brake lines which has cost me. When bleeding the system the offside calliper bleed nipple was seized in. Tried to get it out but no success. A new calliper was £30. Then had an issue that all the hose connections were seized. I’m hoping I can finish it this weekend
Great video I’ll be doing mine soon, saved me the trouble of getting the special tool will definitely go with the powerflex bushes maybe the yellow ones 👍
I'm planning to fit these powerflex yellow bushes to my Mk6.5 1.6 tdci, but I want to treat the rust on the axle at the same time. Are you going to get yours powder coated like the subframe? I was planning on rubbing it down, chemically treating the rust, spraying it with zinc primer and a top coat of black. Hoping to do it in a day?
I’ve got a spare axle at home that im going to be getting powder coated and you could probably do it but it’s a big ask if personally give myself a couple of days for prep and painting
Believe it or not they don’t actually fit they’re too large for the groove on the stand I’ve never seen this type before these ones with those pins either might have to grind them up till they fit
Excellent video mate, as per usual Any videos u make are simple and easy to follow, plus the fact you are just another guy from the street , doing the work in the street, exactly what i will be doing Did u just use the old bolts for securing the axle to chassis? Or new ones? If so Do u have part number for them bud ? Thanks 🙏
I try my best to explain well they’re not the best out there but most of them help with what people are looking for, I am a mechanic by trade but at that time I wasn’t on the tools so everything was at home but yeah done enough working on the floor 😂 As for the bolts type in 7zap Ford on google that’ll give you all the part numbers you’ll need
@@6uiltdifferent IV not long just bought a ST150 and allready had fitted the PAS Relocation Kit and had the full Vibra Technics engine mount kit fitted this is probably what I'd Wana do next. Can you remember how much the bolts was by any chance?
Hi mate, can you help. I’m putting new rear bushes like this.do you know where I can get new bolts for the bush and the three holding the axle to the car. If you can help, that would be great.cheers mate.
@@6uiltdifferent yeah that’s Ford for you. Ima try find cheaper lol. I just spent 1500. Got puma speed imap. Got five maps with it.182,190+,205 sport,205 race, 205+track. Can tune anything. Idle, air fuel etc. F fantastic.
i dont think it matters i looked into this more after i fitted mine and i think its more for the standard bushes as the metal race on them doesnt spin where the powerflex ones do so we can adjust them to what we need when fitting so id say just bang them on as i didnt bother with all that on the other side haha
Was it hard to slide the bracket the over the new bush/ axle? I bought the yellow bushes and they are wider than the originals. I just want to make sure this is normal lol
Not all of them but majority especially up north or by the coast they suffer the worst mine is a northern car and a coast car so worst of both worlds, I clean the underside regularly to preserve it which has been working but only so much you can do
Hi mate. Good video that. Nice one. Im hoing to be swapping mine. Just standard ones for MOT. Just reading a couple of comments about the 32mm gap n you say it applies to the standard one cos the middle dont spin.. where does the 32mm gap need to be? Never seen you do anything with the thing you had in micrometer.. cheers for any tips .
Hi again mate, the bolts I ordered from eBay aren't long enough. I don't suppose you have the part numbers available for the bolts and nuts please? Cheers.
I don't follow the 32mm gap bit, doesn't the poly bush determine the gap between it and the bracket? In one shot you were tightening it with the impact driver?
Should have explained a bit more better as this has been asked a lot 32mm bit Is for the standard bush as the race doesn’t move I realised this as I got to the other side and got annoyed hence why I just gunned it. Read the technical data from Ford hence why I tried doing it by the book but as you know when you’re going aftermarket you can’t always go by the book, how this helps
@@CdotPoppy I used it when tightening the bolt because it's quite a high torque about 110nm and the bracket wants to move without it. But when it's on the car the bracket is able to pivot anyway so it finds the correct place. I think the original ford bush works differently and could bind up if not torqued in the correct position.
Wishbones ones are probably the worst these are alright I’ve know people to just hit them with a hammer and they come out the passenger side was a pain on mine drivers side took around 2 mins
Hi mate, I've got the yellow version of these waiting to be fitted to my non-ST Mk6 Fiesta. How much did you pay for the nuts & bolts and were they from the main dealer? Can only find the bolts for £6+ each which I think is a bit steep. Cheers.
@@Nyle95 yeah I wasn’t happy but where I’d worked on the rest of the car and every bolt was rusty seized dissolved I knew I had to change these as they’re the one I didn’t touch yet lol
@@6uiltdifferent Yeah I don't blame you mate, just don't like getting ripped off. I'll have a look at the state of mine then buy the ones I saw on Arnold Clark on eBay if they need replacing. Love the content by the way 👍
@@Nyle95 yeah that’s fair enough I was just getting annoyed looking for them so I just took the easy option of going to the stealers 🤣 Atleast you’ve found some a lot cheaper though 👍🏻 and thanks mate and I really appreciate it
Thank you for your videos :) I've watched a few of them and they have all been helpful. Do you have a link for the 6 bolts which attach the bracket for the bushes to the car?
No problem at all mate and unfortunately I went to look for them for someone else the other day and the link was invalid, I searched for them all over and couldn’t find them my only advice is to ring your local Ford dealer and see if they can get any to you if you’re really stuck I’ll do my best to get a part number for you
@@6uiltdifferent thank you for letting me know :) I got in touch with my local ford parts supplier and they are about 6.70 so im hoping I can find them cheaper lol. Looks like I'm going to have to buy them. I think you mentioned it in your video but I can't remember the price but is this similar to what you paid?
@@6uiltdifferent nice one thank you mate, never really touched a car before the st150 I've got now so just trying to learn. Amazing the knowledge mechanics have, guessing you're a mechanic full time?
@@thomas9434 no worries and just take your time with things is the best advice I can give and if you’re not sure ask always happy to help and I used to be a full time mechanic for quite a while but there was no money in out so I’m now an engineer on the railway
Hi mate, just done these with the Yellow bushes. I have a gap between the lip of the Bush and the axle. Is this normal. The Bush goes all the way in but when I bolt the axle up there is a gap. It drives alright though. Any ideas? Cheers
I had this I just tapped it with a mallet and used the grease provided, if it’s very minimal it should be fine mate it cant go anywhere when it’s all bolted up
@@6uiltdifferent the Bush fits all the way when it's not bolted but as soon as both sides are bolted up and the weight is on them then they seems to push out slightly with about a 1cm gap between the shoulder of the Bush and the axle
@@6uiltdifferent yeah maybe. All the bolt holes lined up for the axle so it's all where it should be in that respect. I mean it's driving alright and doesnt knock over bumps or anything so as long as that's alright then my mind is at rest, just got to get it aligned now 👍 cheers for the help mate
I would advise anyone watching this to NOT fit the black series bushes. They're too hard. It makes the rear end too stiff and causes the rear end to be twitchy. Im going to replace my black series with the yellow ones to soften the rear end. If its a track car then go for it. But if your driving on uneven B roads i really wouldn't fit the blacks. Just some food for thought for anyone replacing the bushes.
To be fair ive got BC coilovers which are really stiff even on the softest setting so that could also be a factor? But when i had the standard bushes fitted it handled brilliantly. Replaced the worn bushes with the black series and now if im driving fast through B roads it can be sketchy at times. I dont think its personal preference at all, i think its down to how hard your current coilovers are and the type of roads you drive on.
They charge to remove the axle completely so in other words a lot of money whereabouts are you if you’re wanting them doing you could come down if you’re not too far I could do them a lot cheaper
I purchased a focus mk3 2012 Zetec S, unbeknown to me, it came from village up in Scotland. 1st MOT and both dudframes have that much rust it's undriveable untill I swop them both out. Coastal cars are bad
@@6uiltdifferent I have sort of lol, as we speak I have 2 2nd hand front and rear subframes de rusted, primed and painted plus springs anti roll bars new bushes etc etc, but it hasn't stopped raining here Bolton for nearly 2 weeks nows. my kitchen is just full of suspension parts 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
