Just done mine today.. drilled the rubber..took ages. On the side where you take the 1 bolt out, it wouldn't go back in line so I eventually had to take that bracket off as well.

I did this on the rear beam of an escort years ago, drill centre out, then smashed my least favourite flat head screw driver down the side of the bush case to reduce its diameter and it pops out! poly bushes went in so easy, very worthwhile mod, makes the suspension geometry feel a lot more stable.

I think bush bolt should be tightened with the car on its wheels. If the bush is tightened with the suspension fully extended, when you later compress the suspension by hitting a bump, the rubber in the bush may be over stressed due to excessive twisting and possibly give way. What does official ford workshop manual say?
@mathewnewton3499
@mathewnewton3499 9 месяцев назад
Yeah, it says weight on wheels in order for the bush to spend most of its time in a non-stressed position. I say on wheels, it actually suggests sitting the trailing arms on axles stands as it allows easier access. A great video though.
@JoelCr184
@JoelCr184 Год назад
The simplest and quickest way to remove them is to use a big drill bit and drill into the gap on the bottom of the bush. By doing that, it cuts a groove into the plastic casing and the bush will simply fall out with a few small taps with hammer.

Hi great vid, 150.000 on my rear bushes , grand Picasso same set up, Can worn bushes on rear cause tracking to be out, because rear wheels not in correct position, have fitted all new front spring shocks and arms 4 new tyres and tracked, did this because of wear on outside of all 4 of the old Tyres, after 8000 miles on new tyres they are wearing on all outside edges, which make me think weak rear bushes causing tracking set up issues , would be grateful for any ideas on this, owned this car since 56,000 miles so no bumps in the car

Can see that the dia needed to push the bush in needs to be the outer edge, but what's the outside and inside the tube you pull up to?
@diydaly
@diydaly Год назад
Nothing inside it’s just a void so the bush can pull right through without anything in the way as the centre pin is wider than the hole

I'm planning on doing this job myself in a few days. Instead of buying the insertion tool, is there any disadvantages to using 2 G-clamps to slowly push them in? I'm assuming as long as they have a cover for both ends so its guided in equally, this would also work.
