This spring, over the course of two and half months, we interviewed more than 100 players - almost evenly split between the American and National Leagues - across 18 teams and granted them anonymity to get their unfiltered takes on some of the biggest and most controversial storylines in baseball. In addition to their thoughts on Los Angeles’ prolific offseason spending spree, we learned who they think is the most overrated player and the things former players say that irk them the most.
This is not exactly a scientific poll - not every player we spoke to answered every question, and we have listed the number of responses for transparency - but it provides an interesting look into the minds of those currently playing and shaping the game.

Too bad one of the questions wasn’t about the current thoughts on the new uniforms. I’ve heard the basic scuttle but about it from some players, but this would be an official take.

Can't believe so many thought that what the Dodgers did this off season was good for the game. Maybe a ton of them thought "It's good in the terms that maybe now the Dodgers will win a 162 games World Series."

Why not ask the real questions like" Do you think the league should implement a punishment system for the umpires? Do you like Manfred as the commissioner? I can guarantee the first question would get a resounding "Yes" because the umpires have been messing up on several occasions, and others have developed napoleon complex.

Rendon did not say he wants the season to be shorter. The question asked of him was what would get fans more interested in the game. He said a shorter season because objectively if you look at the most popular sport, the NFL, they have one game per week. People make time for it. Baseball is every day so people get tired of it. That’s just being objective

I find it interesting that the league that has a very short longevity on careers, the NFL, has a cap, and the league that arguably has the longest, MLB, does not.

In regards to shortening the season, if you’re playing on one of the teams that lose 90 plus games a season and deal with the issues such as the A’s and White Sox this year… yes you want the season to end sooner.

@@brodiebrazil out of 780 players? No, it actually isn't. As you've stated, not every player answered every question either. Also, for all we know, they could've interviewed a player like Tucepito (sorry if I misspelled his name). A player who CLEARLY wasn't happy with his situation. When you interview 1/7th of a population, and keep in mind we're leaving out managers, trainers, workers, and owners then what are you ACTUALLY getting at?

The question about analytics is probably survivor bias. The ones that it helps are more likely to be in the majors than the ones that it hurts.

If I were MLB at next contract negotiation I would insist on a salary minimum $100M going up at least 5% each of the contract. I would also demand a hard cap of $300. Also no team can pay more that 20% on 1 player, no more than 15% on 2 other player and no more than 10% on any other player on the roster. No FA contracts longer than 5 years. If signing with original team, they can sign up to 8 years if within 2 years of FA (4th year under club control). I would give players additional 7 days of during the year by making 7 mandatory double headers. Double headers would be only on Fridays or Saturdays and would only be with division opponents. I would also star the season earlier by having an in season tournament, one somewhere in the East for grapefruit teams and One west for Cactus League. Every other year one of the in-season tournaments would be international.

While it would be smarter for the players in terms of minimum spending, I suspect some of them voted for "Opposed" because they knew it would be a non-starter for the owners. From an owner's perspective, it's going to be a floor and a cap, a cap with no floor, or neither as MLB operates now.

The players are certainly out of touch with us fans. Most overrated player is certainly Bryce Harper. Best player isn't Ohtani, most over paid yes, but not best. Mookie Betts deserves that role. Yes the season is too long, it over laps too many sports....150 games tops! Best team to play with, RED SOX.....worse organization.....JOHN FISHER!
